lmao alright dude! Idk do you blame me when i think you like a certain humor when I say "Whats the difference between x humor and y humor" and you say "theres good humor and then theres bad humor!" when you were previously defending x humor
"First, the transcopter one isnt a joke about transexuals in general, but the specific kind of attention seeking you see on Tumblr. Unless ive been misled all this time."
I explained the joke and why people might find it humerous, i never said i found it funny.
you never said why you defended trans helicopter humor, yet you shit on "grandpa is racist" humor. can you at least acknowledge that instead of trying to trip me up via asumming im assuming that im assuming that assuming assuming?
Im shitting on grandpa because that joke is nonsensical and poorly written.
Its involving modern politics with characters from NORSE MYTHOLOGY.
Well no shit, dude? That's why I listed several reasons. Comedy doesn't make most people laugh just because of 1 thing.
Sometimes it can.
Yeah, of course. I don't know what else you want me to say about this. Humor can be done in a million different ways.
Tone. Context. Content. Time. Place.
It doesnt fit the book, it shouldnt be in the book. If it was in some Captain America book, it'd still probably be dumb because Spencer cant do subtlety in his political underovertones, but not retardedly out of place dumb.
both of those posts were incredibly stupid though
How.
Explain.
Dont just call it stupid, actually back up your statement with an argument, come on, its not hard.
I think he's really being ignored because like 99% of his posts are being passive aggressive when it comes to anyone who disagrees with him.
"Just have reading comprehension!"
"Are you listening? Hey are you listening!"
"REEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD"
"Stop shitposting!"
Yes, notice how i only started doing that after people were blatantly ignoring explanations as to why people dont like this.

Well yeah why bother confronting the reality that you're crying about stupid things when you can just call everyone else out for shitposting or ignoring you or whatever

Ok, I really really really really really hate this more than anything on facepunch. I rather have actual racists arguing on facepunch than people who defend their passive-agressive (or sometimes full on aggressive) behavior by saying "He started it" when really he hasn't started it. If you want to be the bigger man, or have any chance of looking reasonable, don't be passive aggressive. It makes it incredibly irritating to have a conversation with you.
I sometimes have this passive aggressive behavior too. Notice how I started using "Alright dude" starting from 1st quote to 3rd quote in my "alright dude, that's your choice" post. I worked the quote backwards. Starting from the last point to the first point. Notice how I got more and more passive aggressive the more he was being passive aggressive.

Hey, you know what else is irritating? When people ignore half of what you're arguing so they can call you an insecure crybaby for bothering to explain their opinion on something. Thats also "irritating."
Zelda
Okay.
Imagine the new Zelda game. Except when you get to Zelda, its some asshole named Jim who's calling himself Zelda and wearing her dress, but its clearly not Zelda. Jim wasnt in any of the other games, not in any manga, nothing. He just showed the fuck up.
And thats your Zelda from then on out. A dude named Jim who's using the Zelda name and wearing her dress but isnt actually her.
Get me?
~marketing~
Marvel comics (and evidently only Marvel comics) comes out with something ~progressive~ and the news reports on it.
Opposing and supporting sides debate about it, thus bringing in more awareness.
If stuff like this wasn't a large issue, I wouldn't have found out about FemThor and be mildly annoyed at her real identity being directly tied to Thor for some reason.
It doesn't also have to be about ~progressive~ topics. Shit like Captain America being a Hydra agent was also huge. They did it to ensure sales.
The whole point of comic books is to tell fantastical tales about impossible characters, but people flip out when something even slightly "unorthodox" happens
The whole point of comic books is to tell fantastical tales about impossible characters, but people flip out when something even slightly "unorthodox" happens
None of that is an excuse for shit storytelling.

The Zelda series, for the most part, uses completely different characters each time. In essence, the series is an exploration about how different cultures tell the same "hero rescues princess" story. The princess could be replaced by crossdressing Jim and as long as crossdressing Jim had some importance to the fate of the world it would work just as well and probably be interesting.
Iron Man is a suit of armour with a backstory. Like characters that change every iteration, a suit of armour can be worn by a different person.
It
Doesn't
Matter

Fine.
Do you like Metal Gear?
Imagine if Snake was replaced by a random girl or something calling herself Snake, just shot him in the face in a new game, took his bandana, and became Snake from then on. Better analogy?
Iron Man is a suit of armour with a backstory. Like characters that change every iteration, a suit of armour can be worn by a different person.
A suit of armor developed and maintained by a genius with billions of dollars at his disposal, and the same armor that used to be so important to him that without it, shrapnel would pierce his heart and kill him, meaning he could never take the chest piece off.
The problem.
AGAIN.
Is this character has no prior importance to the Iron Man mythos. Nobody knows who she is. Nobody cares who she is. She's 15 but somehow smarter than Tony Stark and better in every way, and when she shows up she'll just instantly replace him. Its bad storytelling. Bad character.
It
Doesn't
Matter
Why are you coming up with excuses for poor storytelling.
[editline]uh[/editline]
Oh.
Uh... Goodbye i guess.
It's like they feel the need to overwrite already established characters or else they won't be successful. It's cheap and it passes the message that they can't make a new *minority* character without having a strong base to work with...
For those of you unable to understand why some people feel like this type of move bad, it's because they are, once again, replacing a pre-existing character using the Radical Left Fantasy trope which creates barely developed characters with the sole purpose of pandering to a certain audience.
If you still don't understand why people don't like having their favorite characters being replaced with a character with the personality and wit of a iamverysmart user, then there isn't much to debate.
Someone thinks somethings poor story telling
"Can only be their insecurity"
I'm not even sure where I land in this argument I just find it condescending as fuck that any and all opinions critical of this are hand waved away as "insecurity"
Give me a break
[editline]6th July 2016[/editline]
Doesn't it make sense from a story telling stand point to have new characters be their own people rather than just simply being a variation on a character that's little more than a trope at these points? Like, I get it, we want diversity, fuck I do too, but isn't the diversity of new characters way better than the replacement of characters that exist already or is thinking that just a result of my "INSECURITY"?
BDA, you really live up to your namesake.

I loved mgs2
I loved mgs2
You do have to admit though, that game wildly split the community and fanbase for at least a period of time as people were either upset with Raiden, or loved him, most people IIRC were relatively upset and relatively buttflustered by the bait and switch.
And that was a well done bait and switch and it still raised peoples ire. That's always going to happen in these kinds of situations.
With MGS2 it at least explained itself away very intelligently, I personally doubt Bendis's ability to write himself out of this whole intelligently.
gj u chased him off the forum u BULLY
Oh no, im lethal.
I loved mgs2
Even then, that was still different.
Snake himself showed up a bit ways through, and Raiden was designed to make you appreciate and respect Snake even more than you otherwise normally would.
The difference with MGS2 is Raiden is an extremely well thought out stand in for the player them selves, whereas shameless virtue signaling like this has no thought or reason put into it most of the time, and even when it's well thought out like Raiden people still hate him.
Characters become iconic, to belittle to them to a "suit of armor with a backstory" is beyond ridiculous.
-Ms. Marvel is now a Muslim girl
-Bendis' pet Spider-Man Miles is Black-Latino
ms. marvel is pretty good though??? and miles morales was pretty well done for like a while when the ultimate universe was still a thing??
Also, quick question again, why is she Iron man.
Y'know.
Iron Man.

I promise to try and be more outraged by the black girl next time.
I promise to try and be more outraged by the black girl next time.
Dude, all we're asking from you is to just read what we're typing, why is that so hard?
Also, quick question again, why is she Iron man.

Iron Man.
I would say because man in gender neutral in English, but precedence states that it should be woman.
Also, I find it very funny that Zeke complained about crybabys, then got BDA to perma him when he wasn't having his way.
Also, anyone who is slightly familiar with the recent comic landscape can see that this is pandering by a shit writer.

Lol I am
maybe i'm reading the situation wrong (i dont really read comic books at all) but like
it seems to me that the comic book fans are outraged over the fact that marvel seems to be pissing all over its main audience in favor for this diversity stuff
i don't get the impression of "holy shit its not a white dude this is so outrageous"
i get more of a "why is marvel doing this??" impression, which seems justified because i haven't seen a single comic book fan sing any praises towards stuff like this. only the more external audiences seem to like it/defend the practice.
as i've been reading through the thread i stumbled upon that interview where some marvel dude admitted that they only sell comics when they're controversial - that alone, to me, would be worth the outrage before we get into any of the other arguments.
I promise to try and be more outraged by the black girl next time.
BDA, I already got banned once for telling you to fuck off, so I'll try and be less flaming this time.
You are being willingly (I hope) ignorant and not reading what people typing. You are only looking skin deep at the posts.
I promise to try and be more outraged by the black girl next time.
Or you could just not grossly strawman an entire thread.
Lol I am
That is one tiny quibbel in the larger scheme. Once again, you are picking out splinters compared to the lumber just to support your own reasoning.
Lol I am
Whats wrong with that question?
Superheroes sometimes use gendered names.
Spider-Man, Spider-Girl, Spider-Woman.
Superman, Supergirl, Super Woman.
Batman, Batgirl, Bat Woman.
Power Man (Marvel), Power Girl (DC)
Wonder Woman (DC), Wonder Man (Marvel)
Marvel Girl (Jean Grey)
Why Iron Man and not Iron Woman?
Or hell, why not reuse Iron Maiden from Earth X? That name sounds awesome.
[editline]6th July 2016[/editline]
Not to mention you're still mocking over things you clearly havent actually made an attempt to understand.
saying people are outraged by the new character because they're black is like saying people were outraged by the new dante because he didn't have white hair
like yeah there is some fraction of people who care but I don't really think that's what bothers the majority of people
