saying people are outraged by the new character because they're black is like saying people were outraged by the new dante because he didn't have white hair like yeah there is some fraction of people who care but I don't really think that's what bothers the majority of people
I'm surprised no one made that connection before, it's practically the same thing really.
I just wish writers weren't so fucking lazy so they could actually think of another superhero instead of replacing existing ones with a cheap explanation If Blank Panther became some white nerdy kid it'd be just as fucking lame and lazy [editline]7th July 2016[/editline] hey comic movie makers; make a movie about Dream AKA Morpheus AKA The Sandman now that's a cool dude
BDA, I agree with you, but you're kinda posting like Rusty
ms. marvel is pretty good though??? and miles morales was pretty well done for like a while when the ultimate universe was still a thing??
Which I said previously, I hear mostly praise for the new Ms. Marvel. Like what needs to be said, they need backstory, and origin, not background info that's skimmed through on the front by the cover page. There needs to be meat for us to be engaged much like in any other medium. Hell, 5-15 origin issues should cover that no problem. What they need instead of pandering is purpose. Hell fucking Hasbro and IDW gave us a fan-made Transformers character her own story, and she gets five issues and a upcoming CGI web series dedicated to her involvement in the ongoing stories. http://tfwiki.net/wiki/The_Transformers:_Windblade She's still there along with the rest of the G1 cast like she belongs there because the writers and the publishers gave her purpose to be there.
The Zelda series, for the most part, uses completely different characters each time.
Just wanna point out how dumb this post is because while they may be "different characters" they look the exact fucking same in every game except for outfits and slight haircolor changes lol
Replacing any character with another that has had no previous established affiliation with the one being replaced always leads to disastrous results, such as Scorpio's example with Dante in DMC and Raiden in MGS2 (though people began to like him only after because he was written excellently). The black Spiderman from the ultimate universe was written well so people liked him too. The problem here as people are saying is that Marvel's been writing like shit recently and Bendis in particular seems a hack fraud. I'm all up for an Iron Maiden but if what people are saying about Marvel and Bendis is to be believed it's more likely to end up a disaster than not.
the entire point of Raiden was how weird and awkward it was that this femmy platinum blonde whino was taking the role of Solid Snake. I think people who are attached to certain characters just don't appreciate it when the writers say "remember that old herodude you like? he was boring, so we made a new herodude who's completely different. Please forget about the old one, this is the new herodude." like, I don't think anyone ever really gave a fuck about Nick Fury, since he was basically just a GI Joe. So when they replaced him with Samuel L. Jackson, people were fine with it. What people aren't fine with is characters they like being replaced. especially when the replacement is a poorly written one dimensional mouthpiece for the author's political views
like, I don't think anyone ever really gave a fuck about Nick Fury, since he was basically just a GI Joe. So when they replaced him with Samuel L. Wish there was some way for them to coexist like DC's doing with black and white Wally West, both are actually related and named after their grandmother.

You guys are being reeeaaally silly here
They made the Nick Fury based on Samuel Jackson the son of the original Nick Fury.
Yeah but then they banished old Nick Fury to the fucking moon. [sp]This is so incredibly contrived to remove white Fury so they can have Black fury when the whole reason Sam is Nick is cause Nick was based off Sam for the Ultimate line, and Miles is from the Ultimate line, so they could've just killed OG Nick and ported over SLJ Nick. Or just keep Nick sr. and Nick jr. both around.[/sp] [editline]6th July 2016[/editline]
You guys are being reeeaaally silly here
Nah not really.
You guys are being reeeaaally silly here
wow dude sweet post but do you mind explaining what you are talking about?
You guys are being reeeaaally silly here
The only silly people I see in this thread are the ones who won't read people's posts and then smear them as idiots.

There haven't been any "Well a black guy shouldn't be in charge of gathering the Avengers" strawmen. On the other hand, Jane Foster Thor. No one should have issue with there being a female Thor. For god's sake, Thor was an alien lizard horse before he was a woman. The issue with Jane Foster Thor, however, is that they're too over the top with "BY THE WAY, THIS VERSION OF THOR IS A WOMAN, SHE HAS BREASTS AND XX CHROMOSOMES AND IS THOR, DID WE MENTION SHE'S A WOMAN". God, one of the people she fought in an early issue was someone complaining about there being a female Thor. It's possible that this new Iron Man will be well written. Possible. Given the gigantic afro, even though she's 99% likely going to be wearing a helmet, however? I doubt it.
Lol I am
Chalking up everything as simply 'insecurity' is a blatant disregard to any reasonable points people have made and makes a poor generalization of the matter. In this thread, people have voiced their displeasure with Marvel's current trend of marketing towards the ~progressive~ crowds making these changes appear contrived and just lazy; where the creators blatantly and poorly introduce these characters for the sole purpose of catering to that demographic (Pointed out extensively by their own self-awareness). It's so easy to just say that someone dislikes it because they're racists/homophobes/what have you whilst ignoring other points regarding characterization or storytelling; it's a scapegoat answer, especially knowing that the double standard exists. These are beloved, and established characters, whose namesake is being used to push a 'progressive' image in their comics- I believe- because they lack the confidence to come up with brand new properties.

i like how when polynesians complains about how they perceive their cultural icon to be falsely portrayed in that moana, they're told to get over it, it's a non-issue, and its artistic license well, we can just apply it here too ;)
i like how when polynesians complains about how they perceive their cultural icon to be falsely portrayed in that moana, they're told to get over it, it's a non-issue, and its artistic license well, we can just apply it here too ;)
yeah bad writing is always okay
you haven't read the comic dude, stop getting offended, this is a non-issue please respect artistic licesne
I have read the other comics by Bendis and they were poorly written And I know you're just trying to rile people up as is your nature, but if you'd read my posts before deciding YOU know what I think, you'd know I don't have a horse in this race other than I don't like bad writing that we've seen in all of Bendis's recent hamfisted books
you haven't read the comic dude, stop getting offended, this is a non-issue please respect artistic license
Its Brian Michael Bendis, working for Marvel "Its About Ethics In Hammer Wielding" Comics Group in the year of our lord 2016. Its not going to be shit. Its going to be Purified Trash.
complaining he looks wholly different than his usual portrayal ;) lol yes :>
1) Not Tony Stark, its "Riri Williams" taking on the mantle after Stark leaves. 2) She's being introduced just to take over his role as Iron Man.
but not this one, it's just a comic book, don't too angry over it
Dont have to read it to know its going to be fucking awful, the concept alone fucked up by replacing Iron Man with an OC with no history to the mythos.
please respect artistic license
"Please stop criticizing a shitty change you racist"
1) Not Tony Stark, its "Riri Williams" taking on the mantle after Stark leaves. 2) She's being introduced just to take over his role as Iron Man.
whoa man, this is a non-issue, it's just a comic book calm down, there are more serious bad things in this world
1) Dont make this argument. 2) Comic books, like it or not, are hugely influential. 3) Moving goalposts, etc. 4) Dont try and devalue my criticisms by mentioning suffering in the real world. Thats awful. You're using death to try and avert criticism from a thing. 5) So what if its comic books? If it was a game/book/movie, it'd get fucking lambasted.
complaining he looks wholly different than his usual portrayal ;) lol yes :> but not this one, it's just a comic book, don't too angry over it please respect artistic license [editline]7th July 2016[/editline] whoa man, this is a non-issue, it's just a comic book calm down, there are more serious bad things in this world
Well as long as you find a way to seem superior to everyone, then you're doing it right and talking down to literally anyone who holds an opinion on the issue is surely a way to prove you're better than anyone engaged in this conversation, even as you mischaracterize arguments used in a different thread to prove a non existant point about how bad people we are for our opinions. And, you know, not being a person who actually posted in that thread, again, it's real nice for you to decide what my views are for me, you're so very good at that, aren't you? My understanding of the defense a lot of people put forward is that he's not fat, he's muscular but I know, I know, context doesn't matter to you here
whoa you sound so offended by a comic book bro, don't you think theres more serious issues to discuss are you some sort of tumblrina or sjw that has to look for things to be offended by?
^ come on guys dont fall for this bait please just this once dont
