The End is Near: Major File Sharing Sites Begin to Fall

Any file worth uploading should be uploaded to a tracker. Or skip the middle-man completely by creating your own tracker.
The convenience of file sharing sites is nice, but you have no right to bitch and moan if they are taken down.
Don't touch Mediafire
It's like
The best filesharing website ever, no stupid wait times, easy and fast uploads, decent size cap, simple links...
Don't do anything to it god please
RIP sweet prince
I'm pretty sure there will be a cyber-war soon...
Anyways, as long as we have TPB, I'm fine.

You really think Piratebay has a chance? :-)
That is incomparable to the Mega-Incident, now if it was a car dealer knowingly selling stolen cars, then yes.
Megaupload would rather be some flea market where people trade stuff, with a large part of them selling counterfeit products.
SOPA failed, how are they still able to do this?
Who's going to stop them?
SOPA failed, how are they still able to do this?
THE GOVERNMENT ARE NOT DOING THIS. THESE WEBSITES ARE VOLUNTARILY TEMPORARILY DISABLING THESE FEATURES.
The Megaupload takedown was because of various reasons and DMCA violations. It was not taken down because of SOPA or any other form of new legislation.
SOPA failed, how are they still able to do this?
Do what? MegaUpload was pretty blatantly illegal to begin with so it's a wonder it got as far as it did, MediaFire is still up and running, and all the other sites have suspended sharing files until the whole MegaUpload fiasco is over.
There is nothing happening. MediaFire still works and MegaUpload deserved to be taken down.
MediaFire is really good at taking down illegal content though.
There goes the Internet my friends, download as much as you can.
We will probably end up in the Dark Ages where we share USBs, CDs and DVDs with content or watch movies together instead of by ourselves in our rooms. Or start spending actual money for once.
2012 has given us a large turn of events on the Internet, MegaUpload was ripped off the Internet, other file-sharing sites are removing their services, and what will happen in the future is unknown, but can be predicted.
I predict that file-hosting sites will no longer exist. We will go back to torrenting stuff, and sharing files not over the Internet, but with actual, physical mediums. This might allow us to talk about the stuff we share a bit more than the usual, "Thanks for uploading/sharing!" comments.
Either way, 2012 is truly, a dark time for the Internet.
Probably exactly what the RIAA and MPAA had in mind. I'm sure they make most of their money from physical copies of works.
Selective shutdowns.
Why doesn't the FBI investigate youtube or facebook?
when I record a cassette tape of songs I like, and give it to a friend. Legislation in the US says it is LEGAL.
What makes this different is the fact that 1s and 0s are so easy to copy. The music/film companies were already doomed.
The artists do not suffer though because they're still loved.

Facebook has been and continues to be investigated.
AND FOR THE LAST TIME. THESE SITES ARE NOT BEING SHUT DOWN, THEY ARE VOLUNTARILY DISABLING THE FILE SHARING SERVICES TEMPORARILY.
Learn to read, people.
SOPA failed, how are they still able to do this?
I think it might have something to do with the Patriot Act or ACTA or some other bullshit.
Now, if you'll excuse me I'll be going down with the ship

No, they're really not. Many popular music blogs use Mediafire. Some of their uploads go back as far as 2 years and they're still active.

Downfall... of the Internet.
This thread is pretty much the definition of Sensationalist Headlines.
Good work guys.

You know what? Someone needs to add this to the OP. In fact:

It's shit like this, the little white lies here and there, which make the opposition seem worse than it is, that causes bills like SOPA to be passed. When people just start believing in every headline they see it makes everybody opposing these bills look like misinformed idiots, and that will work against them when it comes to debating bills like SOPA.
I was listening to 'This American Life' last night, and they were talking about how if Europe collapses with Greece then America may stop recovery or collapse all together.
Now heres the plan. If the entire world economy collapses and the U.S. government goes down with it, then there will be no FBI or bills to be passed to mess with our internet!

The FBI hasn't done shit past taking down a website that's clearly in violation of copyright laws and other shit though
You guys sure like to just skim over the reasons your beloved file-sharing sites are taken down.
Wow, this is the first time I've ever seen Facepunch fall for a sensationalist sham.
This truly is a new era in history.
