Nuke greece! Issue trade embargo on their otherwise delicious taverna cheese!
Wow..just fucking wow, Greece. You're economy is draining the entire EU and your #1 concern is fucking over 2 game developers? Have these fucking twat-faces never played Arma?
the Greek law can go fuck itself because it's putting innocent people in jail.
It's no different than any other country's espionage laws; hell, the US has sent people to Gitmo for less reasons. For example; the innocent guy who was imprisoned for years just because he had the same name as a high value terrorist. Even after discovering the mistake he was still held.
This Greek apparently tried to "warn" BI. Source He kinda has a point but they're over-reacting I think.
Uh what. Chernarus is far from fictive
I'd right them a check for their release, and as soon as they are free: [sp]get away before they realize I paid them in Greek money[/sp]
Uh what. Chernarus is far from fictive
VERY, very very far. some dudes on bohemia interactive forums actually went to the location of chernarus irl for some easter egg thing or something, locations in-game and irl looked nearly exactly alike.
Or gently touch a tree and explode as if it was a Michael Bay set piece.
Ofc not, they'll be teleported back to the base by some greek hacker.
I'm calling bullshit. I am an American living overseas in Crete, Greece; we have a NATO base shared with the Greek Military and American Navy/Armed Forces. I have grown up in a family of military background so I've been to multiple bases all over the United States and Europe; they are extremely strict about taking photos. You will be detained if they see you are doing something suspicious. (Taking pictures of airplane tail numbers, airstrips, installation buildings) There have been multiple times here in which a group of individuals had been spotted and arrested for taking pictures of American and Greek aircraft tail numbers. This is called tail spotting, which "spies" positioned in or around other bases report when a plane is leaving base A and lands in base B in order to figure out important routes, response times, etc. This is why the Greeks are especially strict with their espionage laws. In fact, ever since a Greek Pilot had been clipped and died out in the Souda Bay harbor from a group of Turkish F-16 fighter jets flying into Greek airspace the military has become much more aggressive. A lot of the time Turkish fighters fly into Greek airspace just to get a reaction; so I'm constantly seeing Greek fighters scrambling at the base and flying around Chania and the North Crete region. Though I think this all has been blown out of proportion I have hard time feeling pity for these people. There are signs posted all over the fences and perimeter that strictly say, "Photography and Videography is strictly prohibited." When in another country you are to respect that host country's laws. They should have consulted official military on Limnos for permission. They broke Greek law, and regardless of what people think there's no dancing around that.
I BIG MILITARY MAN, MY DAD SO ANGRY, WHY NOBODY LOVE ME, WHY NOBODY UNDERSTAND FEELING OF BIG MILITARY MAN LIKE ME, STUPID WORLD
Ahahaha Greece you are fucking retarded
It's okay guys, I've been playing ArmA 2 extensively and I'm highly trained in the art of warfare, I'll march on Greece next week to release them.

Will be making a mission where I put all the blufor forces in a square, name each of them 'greek_evil_soldier) and then have 30 F-22s crashing on them and 15 D-30 artillery cannons firing at them.

I hope ArmA 3 comes out and Turkey uses it to successfully invade Greece and free the developers out of gratitude
This is a fucking travesty.
I hope ArmA 3 comes out and Turkey uses it to successfully invade Greece and free the developers out of gratitude
This. They're trying to set an example by putting people with wifes and children in jail who where there for their fucking holiday. They didn't even take photos of classified shit or bases and whatnot. Fuck you Greece, you cunts will go down the drain some day anyway. I'm starting a militia with my ArmA II Realism Unit experience, armed with .22's and Cesna's we will free you guys!
People don't seem to understand that there's still a lot of tension between Greece and Turkey, sure the espionage laws are kinda ridiculous, but they serve a purpose. One could put the Greece-Turkey relationship in juxtaposition to the US-USSR relationships during the cold war for a better context. I'm pretty sure this wouldn't fly if US bases were being photographed in a game where the US was being invaded. To argue whether or not the arrests were justified is impossible to do considering we haven't seen the pictures, and different sources say different things (them modelling 3D versions of Greek bases from photos they've taken is a rather obvious violation of Greek laws, which some sources claim they have been doing). As I mentioned before, the espionage laws may be stupid, but they're there for a reason, and it's impossible to not notice that it is illegal, considering the "NO PHOTOGRAPHY ALLOWED" signs are plastered everywhere around military bases; it is even illegal to take photographs of areas around military bases in Greece, one should mention. Basically, BI were being naive when taking pictures around, or allegedly on, Greek military bases. You can't go around whining after you get arrested for breaking national espionage laws, as someone else said, you have to respect national laws no matter how stupid they may be -- especially if it's espionage laws. They've also had tough luck considering the general strikes. Also, who's honestly surprised they were denied bail on counts of espionage?
Im gonna boycott Feta cheese in response to this
Turkey would treat the devs much worse than our govermnent does if they took photos of a Turkish military establishment. [editline]17th November 2012[/editline] Thanks dude, i totally called for the arrest of the developers like every other Greek that lives besides me.
Okay dude I'm sorry if I offended you hurdurboohoo.. the goverment ofcourse.
I hope that when this game does get released, there'll be either a scenario or campaign mission where you have to "rescue unfairly arrested civilian reporters from a Greek Resistance camp." I don't normally care for one-sided strawman paintings of antagonists, but for reality subtext like this, this is where I give the a-okay. It's eerie listening to commentary from Ivan in those Arma 3 previews now. Hopefully him and Martin will both come out of this safely and have plenty of inspiration from this negative experience; talk about "dying for your art."
Looks like ArmA 3 starts in a prison
The Greek government makes children cry: Poor kid, may have to live for 20 years without a dad.
