But how much money was she getting before she became a symbol of female mistreatment?
Secondly, anyone who says you need to sit through repetitive head explosions and one-liners to understand a game's plot is a moron.
You do. A game can be tonally duplicitous or making an intentional statement through it's gameplay, where the narrative and mechanics are deeply intertwined.
Hotline Miami did this. It couldn't have been an effective commentary on violence and obedience in games without requiring the player to brutally murder countless nameless russian mafia members.
My problem is that she probably will never mention games that are changing these tropes for the better, like the new tomb raider game. no massive breasts, no "i can't get out of ropes without a man" bullshit, it's just a good game and I'm very sure she won't touch on it. another issue i had with her first video was her trying to refute the idea that one gender might actually be physically stronger on average than the other. the idea she is missing is "on average", disregarding the scientific understanding that the strongest non-modified woman by function of testosterone, cannot be stronger than the strongest non-modified man and even goes on to say that this is a social construct.
If anything I think she easily passed all of her previous expectations, there is no such thing as bad press. She's been made a martyr and has a much larger audience (and budget) than she probably would have never gained otherwise because a bunch of morons spammed her with middle school tier badmouthing. Now she's stuck with 250,000+ dollars and no meaningful way to use it. Honestly, I'm not going to make the assertion but I'd be damned if Kickstarter didn't allow you to cease funding without losing the money already pledged if you made your goal. If such an option exists, then she's to blame.
I'm a bit unsure about your characterization of her as a person with a massive burden on her shoulders. She's playing video games and detailing what goes on in them. The former part isn't even necessary. She could merely watch cut scenes online to get whatever semblance of plot or characterization is in each game while completely avoiding the repetitive head exploding and gun shooting portions that make up a majority of most popular games these days.
why do you keep complaining about how much money she got? she asked for $6000, just because a bunch of people consciously decided to donate more and push her past that budget doesn't mean she has some obligation to take on a quarter million dollar project she never set out to carry out.
Her ass-lickers will say what they will, but that woman's videos have the quality and effort of a high-school project.
Technically it was fair and square, but she saw the opportunity and took the money and ran. It's more than obvious.
My problem is that she probably will never mention games that are changing these tropes for the better
wow i havent even seen most of this woman's and i know thats a lie
shes said how portal and littlebigplanet were games that were change for the better
took the money and ran. It's more than obvious.
"ran" where???
But only some games do that and I'm going to say that's not an overwhelming majority.
You have to apply the same critical standards to everything.

Yes, I've seen the video.
I wouldn't be saying this if I hadn't.
And it's not EXACTLY a scam. Just another person with good intentions who made the payout their top priority.
cant you just be reasonable and lose the inflammatory accusation that she ran somewhere?
because its obvious she didnt; if you have legit criticism then you should post that. dont waste peoples time with statements that are just there to farm some agrees

how did she make payout her top priority? she asked for $6000 and got more because people decided to give it to her. she never hid how much money she had, or deceived people into donating, every single person that gave her any amount of money did so knowing what they were supporting, what they would get, and how much money she was asking for compared to how much she already had. she just released the first video which seems well produced and relatively well researched, so what exactly is the issue?

so how did she take the money and ran away???
you turned her from a thieving scoundrel and now that i posted that video, you're suddenly saying she had good intentions, but just payout top priority???
and she only asked for 6k, any more she got was due to the action of of other donaters

She just asked for the money, nobody had to give it to her. And half the reason she got any of it was people posting hateful shit about her. It's hilarious people on Reddit and 4chan constantly whine about that when they pretty much caused it. And there's plenty of shit that gets money on kickstarter, you guys only whine about this one because she's criticizing video games.
If you didn't all pull a tantrum like a bunch of children she'd have probably not even made her money and gone back to making the niche unknown videos she had been. But instead you did, she got a butt load of money (and every dollar of that is the rest of the internet giving you the finger) and she's more well known than she could have possibly been otherwise.
If you had any sense you'd quietly drop the subject and hope nobody remembers the time you all banded together and accomplished the absolute opposite of what you set out to do.
Forgive me for asking, but how exactly does the whole thing work?
She wanted $6000 to make her video, and got what, $150000.
So what happens to the $144000 people donated on-top of what she asked for? I assume she gets to keep it, right?
I am just curious, I haven't really followed Kickstarters so I'm not sure what happens when someone asks for an amount, but gets over it.

By my own personal standards, it's just not ethical to say you're going to make a cheap-budget film, get a quarter of a million dollars, and then still make a cheap-budget film.
All the while, pocketing 90% of it.
She didn't outright scam anybody, I'm not trying to say that. It's just clear to me that she just wanted to keep as much of that as profit as possible by staying low-budget.

what culture do you live in that considers someone purposely scamming people and running away with their money at the first moment and a lazy person with good intentions the same thing???
also, whats so bad about the production value? i keep hearing that complaint but i dont see whats wrong with it, its simple, the point, she shows evidence
do you want licensed dubstep to play everywhere as expensive CGI overheads every talking point?

why would you spend a quarter of a million dollars on a video? do you want the characters of transformers 4 to act out each of her demonstrations or something? she never asked for a quarter million dollars nor did she ever set out to work on a project that would be time consuming and difficult enough to warrant a quarter million dollars. you cant give a homeless man $10,000 and complain that he buys mcdonalds instead of a steak

Don't group me in there. I wasn't one of them, and I also thought it was stupid for them to basically help her unintentionally.
I decided to save my judgement until I saw the actual outcome. Now that I have, I can form my own un-biased opinion.

Even for a documentary, I can see TONS of room for improvement, to say the least. For that much space, this almost seems thrown together.
And honestly, I might accept some extra profit for my troubles. But HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of dollars? That's just too disproportionate for my standards.
When the balance is that far off, you've far crossed the line into just greed.

that doesn't answer my question, where do you see room for improvement? what would you have done different?
that doesn't answer my question, where do you see room for improvement? what would you have done different?
Well starting at the basics, I would have top of the line camera, lighting, and sound equipment which I can tell she doesn't.
For actual content, interviews with relevant people might not only cost pretty penny but be very valuable to the video itself.
Of course my point isn't that I think she should have spent that much money on a video. If I were in that situation I just plain wouldn't have taken near that much.
Of course, my inexperience with Kickstarter may be a problem I'm unaware of.
But like I said, she DID get the money fair and square. I just don't find it ethical by my own standards.
Maybe you do, but I don't really understand how you could.

what the fuck does she need top of the lighting for, shes not making an oscar film, shes making a series on misrepresentation on women
i hear her just fine, and if you wanna see her skin better, go turn it up to 720dp
i can already tell you're pulling shit out of your ass
Technically it was fair and square, but she saw the opportunity and took the money and ran. It's more than obvious.
My point is if you get that much money from people, my suggestion is either
A) Go all out and make it the best you possibly can
B) Just don't accept that much extra money that you don't need
or C) A combination of the two
And you may not be able to tell the difference between good and bad quality equipment, but it's actually fairly easy here. Either that or she has no idea how to use it effectively which is a possibility.
By that other post I just meant that I believe she only did what she ABSOLUTELY HAD to, so that she could maximize how much of that money was pure profit.

describe to me how she can go 'all out', cause you clearly seem to think she should make a dubstep ridden video with michael bay CGI demonstrating every single of her points while hiring morgan freeman to narrate her every move
her video is fine, the video is simple, it gets to the point, it shows evidence, it shows explanations, it shows histories, and backs up every point she made with videogame footage, so whats so bad about it???
you can go ahead and be smug about how you can tell how bad her equipment is to try pretend you have a point in something, but majority of people doesn't give a shit
you're making a shitstorm out of nothing, and no that is not what you meant, you just outright called her a scammer who took the money and ran then backpedaled once i proved you wrong

You're missing my point entirely, still.
In my opinion, the proportion of actual funding to personal profit is astronomically ridiculous. She did not have to accept that insane amount, but she did.
And that tells me what kind of person she is, and I don't agree with it and I think it's extremely unethical.
Especially when the medium through which you made this absolute killing, is simply for funding projects. If it's a site for funding projects, the majority should go to the project.
Whether that means upping the spending or taking less money is not my concern specifically.
And please show me where I called her a scammer? I used an incorrect mannerism, but even that doesn't define it as a scam.

you're making assumptions with no proof, unlike tropes vs men who lied about charity they gave money to, you have no proof anita is keeping it for her sake only when she literally just showed a shitton of stacked videogames she purchased with said money, like she said she would, show me proof shes using all that money for stuff outside of the kickstarter
also
Technically it was fair and square, but she saw the opportunity and took the money and ran. It's more than obvious.
how is the incorrect mannerism?
go out in the street and ask them what would they call you if you took their money and ran away with it at the first opportunity
they'd call you a scammer
this isn't hard!!!!!
She took the money and ran!, straight to the store to buy games for her video series.
Then she played the games, pretty greedy if you ask me!
Then she made the series just like she said she would, I'd say something here but I'm waiting for Meller Yeller to come up with another excuse as to why she's bad so I'll just have to wait.

This is a problem with too many people nowadays. They cannot visualize large sums of money.
That stack of video game's cost had basically no effect on a quarter of a million dollars, I assure you.
It's still disproportionate by basically the same amount so my point still stands.
And about my first post, you seem to be ignoring the fact that before I said "took the money and ran" I said it was fair and square, hence, "not a scam".
I acknowledged it was not a scam before I even said that.

and this is the problem with too many people nowadays, they constantly pull assumptions out of their ass and backpedal then cross their arms with pride as they say, 'MY POINT STILL STANDS!!'
no it doesn't stand, you're implying shes using the money for her personal sake rather than the purpose of the kickstarter like she said she would yet you provide no proof of it and call her 'unethical' because she actually did what she said she would: buy games, play them, and critique them concerning her topic of misrepresentation of women in videogames
and your 'fair and square' doesn't amount to poo when you just said she took the money and ran, how does that even support each other, it's a direct contradiction, you're calling her a scammer at the same time saying she's not???
would you like a link to tesla volt's website, your backpedalling harder than humanabyss and it's destroying our ecosystem
edit: and 158,922 is a quarter of a million?
did you fail math

I'm implying the difference between legally ethical and morally ethical. Maybe that isn't clear enough.
I'm saying what she did is "by the books" correct and can't be held accountable for legally like with a typical "scam", but that I PERSONALLY don't agree with it and think it is morally wrong.
And you misunderstanding me is not the same as backpedaling. I may have been unclear about some things and I apologize, but I have yet to backpedal on anything I've said except for "took the money and ran" was simply a bad choice of wording.
And I already knew about her stack of video games. Everything I have said thus far I have had that in mind.
