I hope she mentions Mirrors edge in the second part, it's a very good example of damsel in distress.
it is?
it is?
Yeah! After Kate is taken captive most of the game is about getting her back safe. [editline]10th March 2013[/editline] I mean, Anita herself notes that a girl in a game is made a damsel rather than it being a pre-existing condition. The first few chapters of ME actually follows the runners struggle, but the whole thing is lazily pushed aside when Kate is arrested.
So any time a woman is captured it's instantly damsel in distress? In ME you play as a woman who kicks everyone's ass. Just because another woman gets captured doesn't mean shit. It would be only worse if it was a man because then feminists would scream that genders are reversed but idea is the same or some other silly thing. ME is not a good example of this problem.
Yeah! After Kate is taken captive most of the game is about getting her back safe.
I suppose you're right, but seeing that a woman is rescueing her it's not really a problematic use of the trope, nor is it a role reversal so I don't really see it coming up.
no, a woman doesn't instantly become a damsel in distress when she's captured, and a damsel in distress is just a description of a recurring theme in media
In ME you play as a woman who kicks everyone's ass.
I suppose you're right, but seeing that a woman is rescueing her it's not really a problematic use of the trope, nor is it a role reversal so I don't really see it coming up. its been a long time since I played, the only thing I remembered was you were trying to take down the 'big brother' or whatever
That entire pre-conception is thrown out the window once Kate is arrested. Faith loves Kate and goes through the world to get her back. In more well-developed stories we can see a similar example, only that there's usually a male protagonist. I don't see how different genders would affect the actual trope "outcome", so to speak. I can understand the issue if it's just a plot device to create a farcical state of actual character affection, but I can definitely excuse the first mario games, considering the state of technology back then and that miyamoto most definitely constructed the gameplay and design before thinking about the story. The fact that it stays the same throughout the games is another issue, though.
She only put up part 1 yet. It only took her like what, 150.000 $ and 6-7 months to do a video that has the exact quality of her other ones ?
$150,000 to buy over 300 games, make 12 videos, and design a classroom curriculum on the subject Oh and for people complaining about how she's, well, only complaining, maybe wait until video #11 I'll let you google to find out what that video is going to be about, but I assume all the great minds out there criticizing her have already done extensive research on the series and won't have to
I really hate the concept of feminism(and MRA before you whine about that), there's no way to gain gender equality if you only focus on one side.
government discrimination against african americans never would have ended if we hadn't focused on white people's rights as well at the time [editline]9th March 2013[/editline]
She already had most of the games though..
here we go again lol
government discrimination against african americans never would have ended if we hadn't focused on white people's rights as well at the time [editline]9th March 2013[/editline] here we go again lol
[t]http://i.imgur.com/NQYXuQs.jpg[/t] *this image does not represent my opinion on the subject.*
image *this image does not represent my opinion on the subject.*
Don't forget she probably also needs to pay licensing fees since she uses game footage in her videos, there are plenty of reasons why she'd need 6k for her original project
*this image does not represent my opinion on the subject.*
where does the idea she "re bought" any of those games come from? why is it assumed those are all of the games she bought? why is it assumed the donation goal was only for the cost of the games?
why would she donate it to charity? I don't recall that being a part of the kickstarter, idk sounds like you're trying to find something to criticize
what else is she going to do with the extra $144,000 though?
what else is she going to do with the extra $144,000 though?
why does it matter to you. if you had donated/contributed, you would have access to backer updates which would "likely" tell you where the money is going, etc, but you haven't so it doesn't matter.
Don't forget she probably also needs to pay licensing fees since she uses game footage in her videos, there are plenty of reasons why she'd need 6k for her original project
As I said, I'm not trying to disown her or make her earnings unjust. As for the extra money, while she has freedom to do what she wants I'd rather have seen them being put towards added research. For example, taking $20k and actually visiting japan and talking to some of the devs over there. I think it would be nice if we got insight from all parts.
why does it matter to you
I'm honestly just curious

she literally cannot win no matter how she spends the money. well she obviously did win since she got so much money and is able to produce her series.
you would rather see that, but remember it's not your money, and never was, so you don't really get to have a say on the matter, mh? people that did contribute have been getting insights through backer updates (which are private for a reason)
No need to be hostile. I was just presenting an opinion.
I'm honestly just curious
Unfortunately since you didn't contribute you are not priviledge to that information [editline]9th March 2013[/editline]
No need to be hostile. I was just presenting an opinion.
I'm not trying to come off as hostile either. I understand how you could interpret it that way, though. sorry
she literally cannot win no matter how she spends the money.
If she was actually influenced by what youtube-commenting dumbshits said about her and this project she wouldn't have continued with it. By coming through for those who believed in her, she has already won.
what else is she going to do with the extra $144,000 though?
$10 of that is mine, I hope it actually helps the cause, not just wasted. Even though I ain't going to watch her videos, they bore me. Because yeah, its all fair and well to help a someone out when their receiving a lot of hate but was the extra money some sought of "were sorry.-the internet" gift or was it actually trying to aid the project? EDIT: Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
she literally cannot win no matter how she spends the money. well she obviously did win since she got so much money and is able to produce her series.
it's funny because there are a million other things people donate to and somehow everyone wants to know where the money is going in this situation
[t]http://i.imgur.com/NQYXuQs.jpg[/t] *this image does not represent my opinion on the subject.*
she never claimed that she bought all the games with the money though so that's just conjured criticism, people are just looking for ANYTHING wrong with it to attack, and most of it has nothing to do with the video itself. People payed her for a product, they are getting it - albeit a little late. The majority of kickstarters are late. She just wanted to pose a pic with a bunch of video games, OH SHIT SHE USED ONES SHE HAD ALREADY FUCKIN SCAMMMMMMMMMMMM [editline]9th March 2013[/editline]
it's funny because there are a million other things people donate to and somehow everyone wants to know where the money is going in this situation
exactly
If she was actually influenced by what youtube-commenting dumbshits actually said about her and this project she wouldn't have continued with it. By coming through for those who believed in her, she has already won.
figure of speech dude.
Unfortunately since you didn't contribute you are not priviledge to that information
privy anyway I don't care that much, I just think she probably will donate whatever's left over to charity
figure of speech dude.
Still, in any case I don't think "people would whine" is a good reason to not do that. People will always whine, especially in this case. Giving people an actual reason to whine (like not presenting the whole project budget) is more detrimental than supportive to your cause.
privy anyway I don't care that much, I just think she probably will donate whatever's left over to charity
im kinda retarded lol thanks for the correction there (srs) I'm also interested to see where it will go/has gone but in the end it really doesn't matter to me
