dumbest post i've ever read
Science takes faith unless you can say you've personally tested every theory and observed every natural phenomenon and law yourself
I'm happy without religion.
Is that so bad?
No. Happiness is valued and good.
Even more so when it is because of reality and not self-deceit
sure is atheist circlejerk in here
Even more so when it is because of reality and not self-deceit
Any chance to argue for THE TRUE (un)FAITH, am I right?
I'm not even an atheist
What do you mean true (un)faith?
With no fear of heaven and hell, imagine what sick things people would do.
Don't be so happy about atheism, it's as bad as religion. Both shoving down their ideals through your throat.
Atheism has no "values" as a whole. It's like saying people who don't play golf has a specific set of values.
Science takes faith unless you can say you've personally tested every theory and observed every natural phenomenon and law yourself
Well by that definition everything requires faith. I see a bear but if I believe it's true, I must have faith that it's not just a product of my subconsciousness.
Having faith is believing in something without evidence, and usually that belief is absolute. The fact that something is scientific information means it does have proof and it can be tested if I want to test it. If it does not have proof, it's not scientific information. The fact that I can validate it if it is important to me makes a difference. And scientific information is never absolute.
Honestly this seems low to me, but I live in Canada so I guess I'm used to everyone around me being an atheist

Depends on the area. I live in a very Catholic area, my home town was founded by the Canadian version of the KKK called the Christian Values Front or something like that.
Good, all I hope to come out of this is less effectiveness from all extremists. This is after all, not a christian nation.
WOW!!
"the sky is strikingly heavy with water when it is to rain"
As a Christian, I hate it when people force religion on others. It does nothing but harm others and cause anger in all communities.
I'm with you. I go to church and I enjoy helping my priest with the activities for the smaller kids, like cinemas and such, but I never say anything about my religion unless asked.
Nope dude. It's fine. Just don't limit challenging authority to the pretend variety of authority ;)
I'd much rather be happy because of something real and tangible than because I'd convinced myself to adopt a fairytale world view.
I'm not sure why, but whenever someone ends a statement like that with that smiley face I just can't take them seriously. It just makes the statement ooze in arrogance, and looks condescending at the same time which is quite an accomplishment.
Anyways, I'm indifferent on this, since organized religion like Christianity isn't as bad as people make it out to be, and atheism has its own extremists that make it look bad.
Is it even possible for a thread on Facepunch involving any talk of religion to not get into a retarded argument?
Over here in the UK 1 in 3 people are atheists
who cares what people believe in? seeing the original post's numerous winner-ratings just makes me sigh. grow up.

This makes so much sense
Yes! The death of religion is nigh, and before you know it there will be world peace :D
Except you know people still hate each other because their different, or they have land, or they have resources, or they just want to ruin the world.
Religion is a pretty big contributing factor to warfare, but it is far from the largest.
OH GOL DANGLE THIS THREAD WAS BUMPED!? WHAT FUCKING YEAR IS IT I DON'T KNOW ANYMORE!
Jesus Christ, 4 in 5 people in the US are religious?
Meeting a religious person up here (canada) is a rarity and an oddity for me.
