• Gingrich: Children of poor families are lazy, should be put to work

Too bad any jobs they could possibly do are already filled by adults because we're fucked.
I agree with him for once. Working at a coal mine since I was 7 was the greatest decision anybody has ever made for me
I'm a youth that belongs to a poor family. My mother was/is an alcoholic and hasn't had a stable job, let alone a career, in nearly a decade (I'm 16). It sets a horrible example for me, is the cause (indirectly or directly) of quite a few depressive episodes, and gives me a poor childhood in general, especially when it comes to material goods (the last time I was able to buy something for enjoyment was a long time ago. My computer is a mid-end from 2005 for example that my uncle and I paid for together. The sole expense for me is mid-tier internet, which I am grateful for.) And, yes, my mother probably has had a horrible effect on my work ethic. ...but how does this all relate to the article? After all of the above, after the anecdotal experience I have, I can say Gingrich is unwise and misinformed (to a degree). The only thing a shitty job with bad pay and long, painstaking work would have done is instill a need for un-achievable material gain in me and take time away from my academics. My academics are the sole reason I have any future. My academics (and what stems from them) are what will enable me to become something more than a product of poverty, and allow me to give my children a life unlike that of what my mother gave me. I do agree that children should have working opportunities, but not like what Gingrich has in mind. They should have introductions to career paths and futures, not indentured-servitude level labor for a profit-minded businessman.
My state has some good qualities! Like...uh...um....uh....Fuck it, I want to move out
Chris Christie doesn't hate Muslims, that's pretty good.
im poor and obviously i deal in drugs and various other illegal substances and services
So, he doesn't want rich kids to have to scrub bathrooms through their school years, only the poor ones? I suppose he also thinks the children of those janitors he wants to fire should be working, since daddy won't be bringing home a paycheck anymore. Gingrich is a complete piece of shit.
Fuck work ethic. I'm a lazy bitch, and I'm proud of it! [editline]2nd December 2011[/editline] And I'm not even from a poor family
Woohoo! You go girl! Fight the system, fuck work ethics!!! [editline]2nd December 2011[/editline] Gingrich is a fat cunt in more ways than one
Is there a shittier human being on this Earth than Newt Gingrich?
"Why have adults who need jobs clean schools? Let's have the kids do it!"
At least in my state, Illinois, the only restrictions I remember was like you couldn't have a bunch of friends in the car for the first 6 months, and there was a curfew at around midnight to 6am which applied until you were 18 I believe. I had a job at a grocery store when I was 16, and I drove by myself obviously so the first point didn't apply, and the store closed at 9pm, so the curfew wasn't a problem. Having a job where you get off before midnight is not a big deal at all.
I know that in Florida I wasn't able to get my hands on my permit until a little bit before I turned 16, and you have to log like 50 hours (10 of which have to be night hours I think) and wait a year before you can get an actual license. For that whole time you can't drive without an adult in the passenger's seat. So really I won't be able to get an unrestricted license until I'm 17.
Gingrich is such an idiot.
I read it as Grinch.
Yep, kids gotta learn the meaning of low-income life: "shut up and do your fucking job." Also, the earlier the better. Let's give them all manual labor to do while we're at it. Maybe send them all to a coal mine where they'll learn to crawl through poisonous dust and fumes on their hands and knees and develop severe back issues. That's never been done before. And we can even fire their parents and let their lazy asses sit on the couch all day while their kids do their work for them with fewer breaks! Who needs unions, either? They're fucking minors, break their spirits and they'll be too afraid to complain. Thanks Newt, you're my hero. Oh, too much?
I'm fantastically lazy and I have a job. Your move Gingrich.
