If you "leave" a gang you just get murdered most of the time and moreso in Latino ones. That's a pretty strong reason not to leave most of the time. Even then most of them just become passive members. The current generation isn't disenfranchised they just simply don't care with some living off of welfare. Most people could indeed just leave the place and make a decent living and usually do but there's just too many people who stay in the ghetto willingly.
And I suppose you join the gang because you've just decided to despite all of the obvious employment and education opportunities you'd been raised to find, right?
Do you think that people just join gangs for funsies? It's for protection and companionship in an increasingly hostile culture that is perpetuated by economic disparity between races and cultures. Gangs are economically partnered, and thus can net more income (if it is a crime-related gang, as I assume you are proposing).
That's aside from that being a completely inane non sequitur. Do you think all of the people who are affected by this are in gangs?

Some people actually DO join gangs for "funsies" because they think it makes them tough. They join as small children and when some of them realise what they did years later they continue on anyway sometimes in fear of punishment for leaving or just being without protection if someone comes after you from a rival gang that doesn't care if you quit or not. There are no good jobs in the ghetto. People would rather get more money illegally than work legitimately in 7/11.

So now you've whittled your argument's basis down to an incredibly small group of people. A small percentage even of the gangs you clearly know little about. Those who are of color who are in economic dire straits who join gangs "to look tough" (rather than any economic advantage) who would rather not do demeaning, repetitive, and meaningless work with a brain they survived 18 years to keep.
Do you think the entirety of all of the racism and 'racial struggles' that are covered in the news is comprised entirely of this tiny group you've singled out? You haven't made a single point yet.

The problem is there are no large struggles for complete equality anymore. As I've said, I can do anything any white person can in this day and age without being looked down upon or discriminated against and and I haven't discriminated against in the past either nor has anyone I know.
For you to say I know little about this is a personal insult. I've lived around it my entire life and seen others murdered for the dumbest of reasons. Have you ever seen someone been shot in the head for no logical reason or a neighbors house suddenly becoming a homicide scene as a five year old child? Things are FAR different than some random middle class neighborhood here.

I've seen homicide and suicide yes, both first hand and second-hand.
Your entire argument is based on personal anecdote. You need to actually do some research if you want to make blanket statements about the entire country or even the region you live in.

And congrats, you bogged down the first page of a thread about a statue honoring an anti-racism civil rights figure by demanding a redundant burden of proof be given, denying the existence of modern racism using only personal experience as evidence, and blaming the victims of economic disparity and racial discrimination for their problems.
FreakyMe V.S. Galen : the thread.

Then I'll end with this. I'm blaming no one. These children are raised most of the time by teen parents unprepared for it and when they get involved in gangs it's like the family they never had for some people. for others it's for the money, brotherhood, to be tough, accepted, and so on. They don't leave because there is no reason to because they think they have everything they could ever want or for other reasons I listed or others. It's not because of racism. Plenty of people leave and are treated like any other person. The problem is that too many kids are being born there and then continuing the violence. As also I stated before there is nothing as large as the civil rights movements to be had anymore. Racism is all but dead and when people are racist they are usually looked down upon instead of encouraged like several decades ago. Can you find any news story where racism is encouraged anymore like it used to be? No longer are minorities unable to do something because of nationality or race.
