Star Wars Episode VIII's official title: The Last Jedi
yeah i dont get this
i guess all the other jedi died??
"The Return of the Jedi" refers to Anakin's return at the end of the film and Luke completing his training. Luke was the only surviving Jedi at the end of VI. Then EP7 tells us that he went to rebuild the jedi and it fucked up and they all died. He blamed himself and went to live on a rock by himself.
So this is nothing new. Actually Luke is referred to as "the last Jedi" twice in EP7.
Opening Crawl: "the sinister FIRST ORDER has risen from the ashes of the Empire and will not rest until Skywalker, the last Jedi, has been destroyed"
Snoke: "The droid will soon be delivered to the resistance, leading them to the last jedi. If Skywalker returns the new jedi will rise"
The word Sith never appears in the OT but it appears in the drafts. You're prolly thinking of when he name dropped the Clone Wars.
it was also in the final script, Darth Vader is described as 'Lord of the Sith'. I think in the novelization as well.
i just want to see Rey at the start of the movie still awkwardly holding that lightsaber at Luke.
Well according to rumours [sp]that's exactly what happens[/sp]
i just want to see Rey at the start of the movie still awkwardly holding that lightsaber at Luke.
Well I believe it was confirmed that there is no time gap between the movies :v:
In fact the first shot for Ep8 was filmed the same day as the final shot of Ep7.
The title is very ominous and designed to fill you with dread. I wonder what is going to happen.
The red Star Wars logo reminds me of when they introduced Maul in The Clone Wars
I'm kind of tired of the "last jedi/last sith/last xyz" shtick in Star Wars
it was also in the final script, Darth Vader is described as 'Lord of the Sith'. I think in the novelization as well.
I don't really care what the scripts said, if it wasn't in the movie itself, it wasn't in the movie.

I liked how they changed the logo colour in different arcs in Clone Wars, but I'm not sure it would work for the movies.
The Red might just be for marketing. The OT movies had different logos for the posters.

It still makes it part of the movie and lore.
But who could have guessed that the REAL last Jedi was [SP]jar jar Binks[/SP]
More excited because it's Rian Johnson rather than it being star wars
It's going to be like Empire Strike Back for what i expect:
Villains going hard versus heroes getting pushed and somewhat desperate with some character development + Luke's guidance
I wouldn't mind that, i've always enjoyed V, it made me appreciate more the Empire.
More excited because it's Rian Johnson rather than it being star wars
Fun fact, Rian Johnson and Gareth Edwards have cameos in each other Star Wars films
Rian's Cameo in Rogue One [sp]hes one of the Death Star technicians. I don't recall where[/sp]
Obviously we don't know what Gareth's cameo in Episode 8 is.
The name doesn't really roll off the tongue really.
So I guess the Jedi returning in Episode VI was pointless
maybe it was "the jedi" as in "THE jedi", the last one
I don't really care what the scripts said, if it wasn't in the movie itself, it wasn't in the movie.
It's still part of the OT and not a creation of the prequels like you erroneously claimed
I don't really care what the scripts said, if it wasn't in the movie itself, it wasn't in the movie.
How was it invented for the prequels though if it was written into the OT scripts.
I think the blood red title means shit is gonna go down
maybe it was "the jedi" as in "THE jedi", the last one
I posted this in another thread, the only way we can be sure if the plural or singular 'jedi' is being used would be to wait for the official translation into a language that would changed the word wording depending on the content.
Also I reaalllly hope they aren't just doing Return of the Jedi again, with Luke being the stand in for Yoda like Han was the stand in for Obi-wan, like the plot i can forsee with some of the existing things and it could very well all be VERY similar, with Kylo as Darth Vader, Snoke as Palpatine, Rey as Luke, please do something different and interesting.
Like seriously The Force Awakens straight up copied enough plot points from A New Hope and The Empire Strikes back as it is, have Luke survive, don't kill him off for drama's sake, keep him in the movie with Rey, that would be a surprise because we EXPECT him to die, the title doesn't help matters in that regard, I just really hope they don't go for a safe "sort of remake but not really" movie like they did with Force Awakens, it was a entertaining movie and I did enjoy it, but I'll be damned if it isn't just everything I've seen already with very few new things sprinkled on, do something different with this movie please.
I want a new story, not a rehash.
luke's gonna die, rey knows the ways of the force but starts her own group that aren't jedi
calling it right now
It'd be really hard to do that without coming off as rushed. The OT had 3 movies of buildup with Luke, each one featuring a different force user from a lost generation passing the torch over to him. That kind of thing isn't even possible with the Disney trilogy because he hasn't had the chance to do anything. If Rey meets Luke then that's it, she's already got everything there is to know about the force right there.
Star Wars Episode IX's title: Don't Worry We Trained Some More Jedi

Star Wars Episode X: The Return of the Revenge of the New Last Jedi Awakens
trailer wheeeeeeeeeen
Last time the trailer came out in less than a month after the title reveal.
So soon.
Why are people complaining about simple and unorginal title in a franchise that is about wars in space (among other things) titled Star Wars?
interesting to note: there was a supposed full script of star wars VIII that was passed around back in december, and the title there was "the last jedi". it's still up if you look for it; not sure if it'd be legal to link here.
Luke is already known to be the "last jedi"
Buuuut at the same time, keep in mind that just because you're a force sensitive lightsaber wielding not-a-bastard person doesn't mean you're a jedi. It means you're a force sensitive lightsaber wielding not-a-bastard person.

I don't recall people getting banned for linking around the leaked Deadpool script.
But I'd PM a mod and ask first just to be safe.
The sites I normally visit about leaks don't seem to be posting about it.
If they already called Luke the last Jedi then the title could simply be referring to him and not saying "mmkay this is the last one, no more Jedis."
I get that it has a different implication in the title of the movie, but in the title crawl of VII it was clearly supposed to be the last remaining Jedi.

Linking it should be fine, but please dont talk about it.
