• Goodbye Australia's highest speed limits (i.e. no speed limits)

There needs to be a speed limit for conformity, otherwise everyone will just be going whatever speed.
I think I heard somewhere your fuel efficiency exponentially gets worse the faster you go over 45 mph. That said, I always go around 60 mph on country roads and 75 or 80 on the highway. Doesn't seem that fast
Is it safe to assume that the Stuart Highway is comparable to the Autobahn? If so, I'd have no problem with the removal of the speed limit, granted it handles well like Germany does.
I dont see people complain about germany
Having a speed limit is the most dangerous shit ever here. Here you are, driving 170km/h on the left lane when suddently there's this jackass following the 120km/h rule. Nearly killed us all. And to those who say "uhh its safer because it's slower", fuck no. You can die in a 40km/h crash if you're really, really unlucky.
In Italy 130km/h is the speed limit on any road that has no speed limit signs. It's fast enough for almost any kind of road.. Only on exceptionally long straights it gets a little boring. I must say I enjoy going to Germany and pushing some high 200's, but it's dangerous if you wanna drive slower and there's people behind you coming in at extreme velocities.. Having a speed limit is necessary imo, because people are gonna drive as fast as they can even if their cars are not made for such high speeds.
That's what the middle/right lane is for, the left if for whoever is faster. If you're on the left lane and there's someone faster coming behind you, you switch lanes to let him get past you and once they've passed your car you can go back to the left lane. Simple.
is there some statistics on fatalities and crashes overally on that road before with limits after w/o limits ? because otherwise this decision makes no sense (in fact newer cars , motorbikes are getting safer while faster)
or a kangaroo out of nowhere (Which would fuck you up at any speed)
There's a difference between it fucking up your car and killing you though
rolling your car in the middle of nowhere kills you, fatigue is a poor excuse since you can always idk... pull over for a few minutes to build up your energy....whereas a crash from driving off the road pretty much is the end there. 130-140kph seems pretty fast enough, at the upper limit to most cars anyways
Fatigue is not a joke. You can't just walk it off, turn on the AC, open a window, or binge on caffeine. The only cure for fatigue is to sleep. I'm a truck driver so I know this more than anyone else on this forum. Fatigue is what will cause you to go off the road, rollover, or worse hit someone else. It's on par with drunk driving. I dislike the "power through" mentality that many drivers have. If you are tired then find somewhere to at least take a nap. Driving tired is extremely dangerous.

If you double your speed you will circa quadruple the fuel expenditure.
I think I heard somewhere your fuel efficiency exponentially gets worse the faster you go over 45 mph.
Smiles per gallon > miles per gallon
wow 80 mph is not even fast
