Here's a better summary of what happened: Tea Party blasted by NAACP for not ousting the racists within their ranks (they exist, I know it's not a racist organization but many members are) Breitbart posts a 4 minute clip on youtube from a 40 minute speech from an NAACP freedom funds dinner about overcoming racism. Basically the woman in question, Shirley Sherrod, had suffered real racism. Her father was killed by the KKK. This caused her to have a biased outlook on white people in general for much of the 80's where she campaigned for black farmer's rights. One day in 1986, a white farmer came in asking her for help. This is where the edited video begins. She was talking about how, because of her prejudice, dismissed him as acting "superior" and thinking that he was part of the problem She was considering not helping him. This is where the edited video end. She followed by saying this is where she realized it wasn't about race, it was about wealth. That white people weren't better off for their race, but that rich people in general are better off. Fox posts edited video, pundits comment on it, etc. It's basically a "see look! The NAACP is racist too! Look at them! How dare they come after the Tea Party." Other news networks put the video up, probably because it does indeed appear to be video evidence. You can't really "photoshop" a video and the video itself contains no commentary or noticeable edits. Shirley Sherrod receives notice from her boss that she is on leave from her job for her "racism" and that racism is not tolerated. USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack ended up forcing her to resign. NAACP condemns Sherrod's actions claiming they don't tolerate discrimination in any form. Note that the last few points occur within a few hours of each other. The unedited video surfaces, Vilsack says he will conduct an investigation. Fox spins this as the Obama administration overreacting, despite the fact that they posted the edited youtube video as a valid source. Also around this time, the white farmers in questions appear on CNN and voice their support. If you want to read a summary of events, go here: http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3330251&userid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=1 They have several pages and basically say what I've said here, only better. They pulled this same shit with the undercover ACORN videos thing.
Please for the love of god read this, he's dead on. ThIs is a perfect example of something created out of nothing just for political leverage. How disgusting.
When was she fired again? And when did Fox report on the original edited videos? I just want to make sure I have the timeline correct.
RBM11 pretty much nailed it
When was she fired again? And when did Fox report on the original edited videos? I just want to make sure I have the timeline correct.
http://mediamatters.org/research/201007220004 Of course you probably won't trust the source but it's the best I could find. Of course mediamatters is biased against conservatives as their entire website is based on posting lies on Fox. However, this bias against conservatives does not mean they do not post factual data. I wish they targeted liberal news for inaccuracies too but much less of it comes from the left in the present. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/07/22/keith-olbermann-blasts-fo_n_655553.html Also here's Olbermann blasting both the right for posting the video as truth and subsequently spinning it and blasting the NAACP and government for overreacting. He also calls on Obama to quit acting like a neutral pussy and actually get things done. Keep in mind I never watch cable news or even Olbermann but this is a great video. http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2010/07/22/ac.sherrod.case.cnn?hpt=T1 Here's Anderson Cooper talking about it. Another great video. The Republicans are fighting tooth and nail to pretty much filibuster everything in Congress that Obama supports but the Democrats are being big fat pussies and trying to get their support. The Republicans never wanted bipartisanship, they just launched an all out propaganda campaign full of half-truths and outright lies to get the retard masses to support them. They don't want anything about the Obama administration or the current session of Congress to be successful, even if it means being part of the problem themselves. They want to do this so they can claim the Democrats did it themselves even though the Republicans actively opposed bipartisanship. Edit: One day I'm going to write an essay on why Fox News is destroying the country with lies and half-truths backed up with pictures and data. Fun Fact: Any television news station is legally allowed to lie and distort the truth as it sees fit because of a legal case involving an incident where, not surprisingly, Fox pressured a journalist to lie. GG Fox http://ceasespin.org/ceasespin_blog/ceasespin_blogger_files/fox_news_gets_okay_to_misinform_public.html "Educate and inform the whole mass of the people... They are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty" "Printing presses shall be free except as to false facts published maliciously either to injure the reputation of another (whether followed by pecuniary damages or not) or to expose him to the punishment of the law." - Thomas Jefferson
And Beck is now blaming it on obama woooo
And Beck is now blaming it on obama woooo
I've never read 1984 but I've read about how the guy changes the focus of his speech from "we've always been at war with Eurasia" to "we've always been at war with Eastasia" in the same exact speech and the masses accept it unquestionably. This situation is pretty much that. Fun Fact: There's a psychological phenomenon called the backfire effect. It basically says that when people are presented with facts contradicting one of their views, they are more likely to believe the old view. The study above shows that people are more likely to believe an old, contradicted news story than the factual new story they literally just read. They read them back to back! Another fun fact? It only affects conservatives and independents. This is also regardless of the source. http://motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2008/09/backfire-effect News article on the phenomenon. [editline]12:53AM[/editline] Of course I'm well aware that I am merely reinforcing the conservative's deluded beliefs by posting the fact that facts reinforce conservatives deluded beliefs. Isn't psychology fun?
Glaber, how the fuck can you defend this?
Glaber, how the fuck can you defend this?
Because facts against him only make his delusions stronger. Read the study I posted.
