I have no idea about how politics work, but is anything on his current checklist a good thing? Term Limits on Congress for example: Is that a good thing? Also, what is MAGA?
term limits on congress, rule of law, ban on lobbyists (sounds like its only FOREIGN lobbyists though, may be misleading) thats about it
I have no idea about how politics work, but is anything on his current checklist a good thing? Term Limits on Congress for example: Is that a good thing? Also, what is MAGA?
Congressional limits are decent and the lobbyist stuff in general is good but these are the two things that are definitely not happening with a Republican controlled congress. The rest runs the gamut from "Bad" to "Disaster" to "Impossible" to "Ha you fuckers actually believe I support this"
I have no idea about how politics work, but is anything on his current checklist a good thing? Term Limits on Congress for example: Is that a good thing? Also, what is MAGA?
Looking through it, there are seemingly some decent ideas that - in the hands of politicians who actually cared, instead of Trump who would be backed by a sweepingly large GOP government - could actually work. However, given that this is Trump we are talking about, most of the ideas instead are instead meant to prioritize and reward heavily conservative policies instead of impartial judgement against corruption regardless of partisan bias. I'll pick randomly notable excerpts:
* FIRST, propose a Constitutional Amendment to impose term limits on all members of Congress;
This seems to actually be pretty good, but Republicans will no doubt cock block it while approving Trump's more disastrous policies elsewhere.
* THIRD, a requirement that for every new federal regulation, two existing regulations must be eliminated;
This seems to be just a generic and petty clause meant at removing the influence of big government, and is instead most likely meant to punish liberals for trying to add big government influence. I saw a previous post say that this was already used elsewhere to cut down on redundant policies and close down loop holes, but as I said - given the current political atmosphere in the US, this is likely just meant to cut down on large government influence via regulations in this case.
* FOURTH, a 5 year-ban on White House and Congressional officials becoming lobbyists after they leave government service;
This is good as far as I am concerned; some lobbyists have a history of flip flopping between political positions and corporate positions, so theoretically, this would perhaps genuinely cut down on corruption or corporate interest lobbying in some cases.
* SECOND, I will announce our withdrawal from the Trans-Pacific Partnership
This is probably another thing Trump is doing to remove big government influence, but fortunately, this is actually good for the common middle class people on both sides if I understand correctly. TPP benefitted larger corporations and had some concerning intent to meddle with stuff like Copyright Laws as well as giving corporations "private court sessions" or something to that extent.
* FIFTH, I will lift the restrictions on the production of $50 trillion dollars' worth of job-producing American energy reserves, including shale, oil, natural gas and clean coal. * SIXTH, lift the Obama-Clinton roadblocks and allow vital energy infrastructure projects, like the Keystone Pipeline, to move forward * SEVENTH, cancel billions in payments to U.N. climate change programs and use the money to fix America's water and environmental infrastructure

Additionally, on the first day, I will take the following five actions to restore security and the constitutional rule of law: * FIRST, cancel every unconstitutional executive action, memorandum and order issued by President Obama * SECOND, begin the process of selecting a replacement for Justice Scalia from one of the 20 judges on my list, who will uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States * THIRD, cancel all federal funding to Sanctuary Cities * FOURTH, begin removing the more than 2 million criminal illegal immigrants from the country and cancel visas to foreign countries that won't take them back * FIFTH, suspend immigration from terror-prone regions where vetting cannot safely occur. All vetting of people coming into our country will be considered extreme vetting.
ABANDON ALL HOPE, YE WHO ENTER
10. Clean up Corruption in Washington Act. Enacts new ethics reforms to Drain the Swamp and reduce the corrupting influence of special interests on our politics.
"Drain the Swamp" is empty and baseless rhetoric without a lot of substance to it alone. Given the appeal to emotion over substance, the plan seems too vague to comment on. He mentions removing the "corrupting influence" of special interests, but he is hypocritically including people who are otherwise heavily vested in special interests on his prospective proposals for Cabinet positions, sooooo...... Meet Trump's Cabinet-in-waiting
Treasury secretary Trump himself has indicated that he wants to give the Treasury secretary job to his finance chairman, Mnuchin, a 17-year-veteran of Goldman Sachs who now works as the chairman and chief executive of the private investment firm Dune Capital Management. Mnuchin has also worked for OneWest Bank, which was later sold to CIT Group in 2015. [...] Interior secretary Lucas, the 74-year-old co-founder of oil products company Lucas Oil, is seen as a top contender for Interior secretary. Trump’s presidential transition team is also eyeing venture capitalist Robert Grady, a George H.W. Bush White House official with ties to Christie. And Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr., is said to be interested in the job.

Congressional limits are decent and the lobbyist stuff in general is good but these are the two things that are definitely not happening with a Republican controlled congress
I think that depends on Trump; the Republican congress doesn't have the 2/3 majority it needs to override a veto, so Trump could block legislation congress wants to force them to either compromise, or have nothing get passed.
Thanks for the info, everyone
* THIRD, cancel all federal funding to Sanctuary Cities
Hahahah good fucking lucking getting all funding cancelled to DC, LA, NYC, and Chicago.
What's going to happen to me? Before the ACA, I was uninsurable. Will my preexisting condition leave me without health insurance again? Will I just have to live knowing that if I ever get sick, it will mean tens of thousands of dollars of medical debt?
Trump is going to undo all of Obama's unconstitutional executive orders by filling his own, actual, unconstitutional orders
I wonder about the lgbt people that voted for Trump(yes they did) are feeling right now that they'll have their rights potentially stripped from them.

Preexisting conditions + the on parents plan till 26 thing are my lifeline right now.
multiverse theory is true and we live in the darkest timeline
* SECOND, begin the process of selecting a replacement for Justice Scalia from one of the 20 judges on my list, who will uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States
America rekt for 20+ years. Enjoy.
Honestly, Supreme Court Justices need term limits, and/or recurring Democratic elections rather than presidential appointments. Getting a stacked roster can fuck the country for decades.
which they do via aircraft for christs sakes how does a wall stop that
few planes can fly over 60,000ft.
Honestly, Supreme Court Justices need term limits, and/or recurring Democratic elections rather than presidential appointments. Getting a stacked roster can fuck the country for decades.
Elections for judges are a bad bad idea. What you need is a wholly reformed political system where two parties don't appear to be extremes on either end of the spectrum.
Honestly, Supreme Court Justices need term limits, and/or recurring Democratic elections rather than presidential appointments. Getting a stacked roster can fuck the country for decades.
I'd much rather have term limits on Congress wayyyy before Justices getting term limits.
few planes can fly over 60,000ft.
I'm laughing my ass off thinking about trump telling mexicans to go fuck themselves from the top of an 11 mile high wall.
THIRD, a requirement that for every new federal regulation, two existing regulations must be eliminated
this isn't yugioh m8
I'm laughing my ass off thinking about trump telling mexicans to go fuck themselves from the top of an 11 mile high wall.
If we can design a space elevator we can design a space wall too
Good fucking luck trying to get Congress to vote on term limits when it's incredibly against their own interests.
Good fucking luck trying to get Congress to vote on term limits when it's incredibly against their on interests.
McConnell has already said twice that it's not on the table.
Not to mention the actual practical concerns of term limits. We'd be effectively removing some of our most experienced politicians from the political process. Is this good? I don't really know.
Good fucking luck trying to get Congress to vote on term limits when it's incredibly against their own interests.
And it would require a consititutional amendment. Which makes it next to impossible.
Can wait to see what happens next :nope:
The next 4 years will certainly not be boring. Interesting, what will the Republicans do with 4 years of total control...
The next 4 years will certainly not be boring. Interesting, what will the Republicans do with 4 years of total control...
The 2000s were the GOP years. They didnt last long. Don't worry.
The 2000s were the GOP years. They didnt last long. If Americans can fight through the smog to vote, this could be a lasting reminder not to trust putting corporations in government.
