There's a demo version
yeah you can try the demo too but by playing the real version you'll truly see if it's worth it.. you know
it doesn't look all that bad anyway, but people are way too excited about it lol.
I don't think this has ever been brought up, but how has an American game that features a distinctly American-icon end up being released in Europe first
Nothing against Europeans, but it grates me thinking Europeans will have their hands on a fucking duke game before us.
Could someone explain how games just get leaked all the time these days?
I don't like it when they leak games, it just ruins the company.
Because a tiny minority of a few thousand people stealing the game compared to the hundreds of thousands that buy it totally destroys the profit.

You really think only "a few thousand" are going to download a leaked DNF? lol.
You guys are saying that it's shitty and that you'll probably not even like it
You didn't even play it
i hope nobody actually thinks the leak will "ruin" duke nukem's sales
if it were to "ruin" dukes sales, it would be because people realized its a bad game and save their money
non-existent sales are not lost sales
It's always leaked on Xbox 360. What does that tell you? Console gamers can be impatient bastards and leak it while we glorious PC gaming master-race wait for a game.

I saw videos of it
It looked pretty clunky & bad
I doubt Gearbox are even going to care much considering that it'll still sell loads even if it a dog shit was in the box and the disk was snapped into tiny pieces.
Yeah but "disappointment of the century" isn't a very good resume item for a developer.
non-existent sales are not lost sales
due to the leak, some people who would have bought it for xbox360 will now maybe use this copy. thats lost sales. however if you think of the people who simply hear of this due to the leak, then maybe those are none-existant sales, i agree. the line is fine though, so many do the time. oh this is slick as fuck, the rhyme is all mine.

any actual data to back that up?
sounds like you're just assuming that pirates never ever buy a game, they just enjoy it forever and ever without ever bothering to purchase the full version which includes multiplayer and DLC.
the people who pirate a game and don't pay for it eventually are the people who A. didn't enjoy the game, or B. didn't have any money for the game in the first place

Not to put too fine a point on it but there's games I definitely would have purchased had they not been available on torrent sites, and I don't think I'm the only one.
Also a lot of pirates use that as kind of a justification anyway, they'll download a game and play it for a while and then be like "ehh...it wasn't THAT great, I don't think I would have bought it" and then keep playing it anyway.
yeah, there are pirates who don't buy it, but i'd like to see actual data representing how many lost sales there are on a game that is leaked/cracked
it seems like everyone always freaks out and demonizes pirates for downloading a leaked game, when in reality the leaks are usually worse than the final product, don't include certain features like multiplayer, etc. there are even some positive sides to a leak, just look at deus ex human revolution. before the leak i wasn't really sure of the game, we'd not seen much other than a trailer and i'd heard bad rumors about the game, it definitely wasn't on my radar. as soon as people started talking about the leak, all they could say was how great the game was, and now it's on my preorder list. the same with crysis 2, i enjoyed the leak, and bought it despite already having played it. leaks can not only grant a game huge amounts of free, word of mouth advertising, but depending on the timeframe, they can be representative of the final product, and when each game costs me $60.00 i want to be sure that i'm getting my money's worth.
i know that piracy is a touchy subject, but i just cant stand the rampant demonization of people not buying a game they had no money for in the first place.
though i definitely agree that lots of people just go "yeah it wasnt that good" and keep on playing it, i honestly view them as a minority though.
maybe it's because i have my own sort of pirate morals, i buy a game that i enjoy, and really only pirate games when im out of money (only to buy them later on).

It's usually pretty hard to break down sales figures like that--you can show a graph of declining sales but there's no real way to say "x percent of this is due to piracy, x percent is due to the economy" etc without a whole lot of baseline data.

This is kind of a lame rationalization, though--it's not like stealing bread, we don't NEED videogames. They're luxury items. The idea that "oh well I couldn't afford this luxury item so it's okay that I got it for free illegally" is popular among pirates but not very convincing to other people.

The demo was really bad too.

well, i suppose i really cant argue.
i just think its important to realize that 1 pirated copy != 1 lost sale
The demo was really bad too.
That's because the demo was horribly outdated. It's more about the developers chosing badly on what kinda demo to give us than the game itself being really bad.

That's a terrible excuse. Regardless if it's true or not, demos are made to present to the player if the game is worth their time or not. Saying it's outdated is complete bullshit.

i cant believe people use this as justification for how terrible the demo was
you would think that gearbox would want to give us a demo representing the final product
i somehow doubt that the demo is horrible but the final game will be any better

We're about to find out.
Already have it pre- loaded on Steam. May download the torrent.
How do so many games keep getting leaked?
I just don't understand what causes it.
How do so many games keep getting leaked?

retail stores get physical copies early, some kid that works at gamestop steals a game and uploads the CD image, and then the scene cracks it.
tadaaa
Please excuse me while I laugh my ass off.
You really think only "a few thousand" are going to download a leaked DNF? lol.
probably more in the order of 80-100 thousand but it's still not going to ruin the sales figures or anything
I've waited a decade, I can wait another 10 days.
Reminds me of a famous thing Michael Collins(supposedly) once said when the british army handed control over to Ireland's Armed Forces, he said in Response to a British officer informing him he was late by 7 minutes, "You've kept us waiting 700 years. You can have your seven minutes."
