That's all i can say.
Isn't Civ owned by Firaxis anyhow?
Will GTA suffer if that happens?
Tbh Rockstar runs pretty independent from 2K, I never see their branding on games and a lot of people assume Rockstar is a self-publishing company (I did for a while until I noticed they're owned by 2K)
If anything I doubt it since they're not influenced heavy by it and could break ties with 2K and be independent but I doubt that happening
You see this is where capitalism fails, when bigger corporations just start buying all the smaller ones until there's almost no competition left.
...and continue making good games.
Because where capitalism succeeds, is if they adopt terrible practices, just anyone can come in and knock out that monopoly.
Think smaller devs can't create AAA quality stuff? Check out guacamelee, rock of ages, and A hat in time.

I wouldn't consider those AAA quality
First when EA or Activision bought a company, most people would be like "Ah don't worry guys, these guys won't fuck with the developers, they will still have all the freedom and your favorite games will still be released".
Up until the point they either launch new games on iOS and Android as a micropayment game, cancel games and just put the rights of the game in some dusty cabinet to never be seen again.
In other words:
This has me worried. But luckily the investors usually have the last words in such cases who seem to be quite happy currently, even more with the upcoming rerelease of GTA V

people are gonna keep buying GTA's for the rest of time no matter what happens to the series' quaity

Activision are excellent compared to Ubisoft and EA.
Not defending them but Activision doesn't put a shitty DRM on all their games(Ubisoft) and they don't fuck up franchises like EA does.
Activision does milk their franchises hard but it's because consumers want more COD's and they want 3 maps for $15 and weed camo. Activision doesn't lie to their customers, they don't make any effort to hide that COD runs on a dated engine and what you see at E3 for them is what you get in November
OK I guess I am defending them
I legitimately thought that Activision was making an actual "play" for Take-Two, so we'd see the grand story Ryan Brant or something.

Firaxis is owned by Take Two.

Guacamelee is debatable for being 2d, rock of ages is kind of short(both are still amazing AAA-quality games imo), but how can you possibly put that claim on A Hat In Time?

When comparing Guacamelee to games like Rayman Legends, I can see it pass as a AAA game, especially with its really nice asethetics. But Rock of Ages falls out of AAA territory because its main gameplay only consists of two basic gameplay mechanics (setting up defense and rolling), which is replayable and accessible, but makes it really apparently that it's an indie game. A Hat in Time, while really ambitious and would have passed as a AAA game years ago, just lacks the graphical fidelity compared to AAA Nintendo games. It does have a great artstyle though.
Activision is shit, and was for a long time. The difference is, that while at some point Ubi, Activision and EA all were on the same level of shit, EA and Ubi just went fucking overboard, while Activision is guilty of the same vices it always was. Which, while not really being very nice, are still better than the shit Ubi has been pulling recently.
Activision is doing the usual big publisher stuff, cutting corners, milking their products (which is a really normal business tactic, actually) and generally making sacrifices for the sake of money. Although that being said, they did give the CoD series some opportunity lately, with a longer development cycle and Black Ops 1/2 were actually pretty decent.
I mean, I'd rather have R* just go independent than be owned by Activision, but here's food for thought.

i miss the old days when activision actually CARED, and made awesome star trek games, like armada 2 and bridge commander.
GTA has actually been a training simulator in what to do if this event ever occurs.
Rockstar has been prepping us.

There's the problem; try as they might, indie devs will never be able to compete. Triple-A games have the market cornered in graphics, and there are massive teams required to make games with such high graphical fidelity.
The truth is, big publishers are gaining the upper hand and eventually you will be stuck buying all your Triple-A titles from these shitlords. Unless Activision magically goes out of business, I guarantee that they will still try and buy 2k. As others have said; that's capitalism. Everyone is going to climb up that ladder (or want to climb up) and won't stop until they are at the top. And as Comcast showed us, the government will turn a blind eye to just about any monopoly so long as they are paid off.
I'd rather GTA V be the last GTA than we start getting yearly GTAs.
I can't wait for a year GTA! 2 Call of Duties isn't enough per year so I need something to do!
