For a gun lover such as yourself you should know the 2nd amendment has nothing to do with self-defense. Police have no legal obligation to come to your aid ie be a bodyguard, but I'm pretty sure they DO need to stop crimes.

You can also be a student or have a job, in which case you can apply for a visa. If that's the route you take you can apply for citizenship after living in Canada for 3 years in any 4 year period. You're also accepted if you left your original country for humanitarian reasons.

I don't want nationalized healthcare so yeah I prefer the US. Now if I was actually poor and had problems affording it or problems finding a job I would care but I'm not in that demographic so non nationalized healthcare benefits me.
