I don't want nationalized healthcare so yeah I prefer the US. Now if I was actually poor and had problems affording it or problems finding a job I would care but I'm not in that demographic so non nationalized healthcare benefits me.
Typical conservative viewpoint really.
If the US became exactly like Canada I would move.
Where?
Where?
Somalia, libertarian paradise.
Punishing someone because their parents did something illegal is not only wrong but unconstitutional
This. Punishing a child solely based on the actions of its parents is ridiculous. The amendment remains in place in order to protect the children. It ensures that they have citizenship to SOMEWHERE regardless of their background or the previous actions of their parents. This isn't a two sided argument. There is one side that makes sense, and the other side is full of idiots and assholes. I LOVE to play devil's advocate. To take a side that is unpopular just to spur interesting debate and to better understand a side I don't agree with. Not only is it fun, but occasionally I see the logic of the new side and can switch. So when I say that this isn't a two sided argument, it is because I believe that just about all arguments have two sides and I enjoy taking the underdog side. This doesn't have an underdog side. If you don't believe that children should receive citizenship, then you are either a dick or horribly misinformed.
The bill's sponsors say the goal is to force a court to rule that a child born in the U.S. is a citizen only if either parent is a U.S. citizen or a legal immigrant. Similar proposals have been introduced by lawmakers in Indiana , Mississippi, Texas, Oklahoma and South Dakota.
I would be lying if I said I would be neutral about this. I am pretty much for this. Illegal immigrants coming to the US so that their child can get US citizenship, then using their child as a ticket for benefits, etc. It is hard to see that the parents "only want what is best for their child" when said child grows up and can't speak english. This bill proposal doesn't punish anyone really. If it does "punish" someone it would be the parents of the child.
Typical conservative viewpoint really. "I'm well and good so fuck the people who aren't!"
People exaggerate how the government treat poor people though big time. Especially people from other countries tend to think that we just leave our poor out to die with no help at all when that is definitely not the case. My friend's sister for example hasn't had a job in her life but she's lived on her own for more than a decade with no source of income other than government handouts. She lives in a crappy house BUT her fridge is always stocked full of food, she has satellite TV, broadband internet, and car that isn't a total junker. Also her parents don't help her out hardly at all.
The 14th amendment was created because of slavery, It should be changed now since it is no longer pertinent.
the 14th amendment was created BEFORE mass black slavery.
The 14th amendment was created because of slavery, It should be changed now since it is no longer pertinent.
If that is the case, then 1 thing has to happen, and only 1 thing. There has to be a new amendment that changes the constitution. It is the only real way for that to happen. Federal laws trump state laws. I'm not even arguing sides here, just facts. On a side note, the automatic citizenship to people born here still holds true, so there is NOTHING states can do about it other than bitch.
I have a law: If you can prove that you won't become a burdon to the nation, then and only then can you become a citizen. There are so many people near my city who openly and unashamedly admit to becoming a citizen for the sole purpose of going on welfare and not having to work.

I know people on well fare and my family is on well fare. believe me no one wants to be on well fare.
What benefits are these parents using that their child gives them access to?
Can't say much other than food stamps and other stuff. I find it difficult finding/trusting information on the internet. The benefits thing I based on what some of my relatives have done in the past (ex: lawer + kids in bilingual school = getting extensions/aid, etc). Of course that was awhile back so the laws have changed so, I'm probably outdated as hell on the benefits part. Sorry for the late reply. I was at work.

Illegal immigrants do EVERYTHING in their power to avoid showing up on the government's RADAR. Not to mention the fact that food stamps aren't actually stamps. It's a card. With your name on it. There is an application process where they check to make sure you apply for food stamps. An application process which is awfully difficult to pass when you can't show legal documentation proving you make X amount of money. In short: -It's the kid's right to apply for food stamps to feed themselves in the first place -They actually don't apply for food stamps, because it would likely mean the deportation of the guardian. (Meanwhile illegal immigrants work jobs which automatically remove taxes from their paychecks. So while these illegal immigrants can't use any of the services provided by the government, they still pay into the coffers that support them. Tax returns? They don't get any. They not only pay more of their paychecks in in taxes than comparative citizens, but they can't, or won't, use almost any of the services provided in return by the government to citizens. SURPRISE! Percentage-of-income wise, they are more beneficial than you are!)
