Free to Play: Steam accepting refunds for No Man's Sky regardless of playtime

I was willing to give the game a shot because as a small time modeler I figured based on what was shown of the game that the Min-spec they had on release was accurate. Sadly it didn't run anywhere near stable even on the lowest of settings with a 750. I refunded mine simply because the requirements they advertised were not accurate. Couldn't get a framerate above 20.
My guess is that steam allows greater than two hours for refund on this game is simply because it has an element of false advertisement to it. Whether it be the pre-orders based on generous requirement metrics or the trailers so many have pointed to.
Shit, I bought this garbage on GoG

GoG has a 30-day refund service, though it's mostly in case of the game not running very well if at all.
You could give it a shot. After all, the recommended specs are complete bogus.
that was before the refund system and to refund money they still have to have it. The stomping lands devs have long run with the money.
But it's Valve's responsibility to refund you, regardless of what money the devs have. They're responsible for what's being sold on their store, they need to be held accountable.
People keep saying that it's some kind of manufactured outrage because the game was "over-hyped" but the more I read about it the more it seems like it really is just false advertising. How so many people didn't see this coming given the circumstances and history of titles like these is kind of puzzling.
I saw this coming a mile away from the very first footage.
It showed us almost literaly nothing.

now steam holds the money for some time to allow the refund system, if im correct. it wasnt like that before and it is now so i dont see what the problem is.
Little over 15hours gameplay and 16days owned. - I've just lodged a refund ticket, citing the violations to my consumer rights under the Australian Consumer Law (something that Steam has fallen against in the past).
I said it before, and I'll say it again - I would gladly buy No Man's Sky (and I would enjoy it greatly, I feel!) if it were $15. But $60 for this game is too much, I think. If it were $15, I would download it and play it whenever I was bored of playing my other games or doing school work. I'd launch it, fly around and discover a new planet, see if there is anything interesting on it, and then log off and do work. Had they used that game model, I think this game would have been a resounding success. Instead, they tried to do the AAA-game release model where you spend $60 "because."
That's not even mentioning the whole multiplayer fiasco (read: fraud) and extant procedural generation issues (read: unfinished core game mechanic.) I wouldn't really mind that if it were $15, to be honest. But $60 is too much for a game to have this much controversy surrounding it from disappointed fans.
theres a difference between e3 fakery and lying about features in literally every interview you're in after that e3 trailer up to a month before release
I'm always on the assumption that if a game doesnt shows you anything on E3 and at the same time promises a lot of things (that could also be perceived as nothing), then whatever comes next will justbe like rubbing salt on a wound.
But this doesn't negates what you said at all. More of an opinion. While everyone was amazed at nms, I was as uninterested as I could ever be.
The shit storm on reddit over all of this is pretty enertaining. People actively downvoted posts announcing this news and reported them to the point of them being removed automatically. People really don't want to believe that this game was built on lies and is the most unfulfilled piece of garbage in recent memory.
I see the circlejerk going both ways, actually. People are both posting constantly LOL FANBOYS WILL DOWNVOTE THIS and going straight to the top, and I've also seen posts saying DAE TOO BUSY HAVING FUN PLAYING TO POST??? going to the top.
I realize this is a double post or whatever, but here's a fun little update. The steam store page got a little box added - http://store.steampowered.com/app/275850/
The standard Steam refund policy applies to No Man's Sky. There are no special exemptions available. Click here for more detail on the Steam refund policy.
Show's over, folks. Pack your bags.

I would say to still try and get it through a support ticket citing the false advertising.
That's great.
Now, if only Steam would refund me for The Stomping Lands. Even after putting out a support ticket explaining how the developers abandoned development of their early access game shortly after putting it on steam and how they clearly didn't deliver on what they promised, Steam still tells me that I can't have my $24 back.
This but Spacebase DF-9. I'm still so fucking mad at that cunt.

Let's call the accc again and another 2—3 year court case
Whyd they stop doing it? Did they see everyone was just rushing to refund it?
first ever refund and i got it accepted within an hour. i was really hoping they would have done a better job with it. to me it was just about an hour and a half of gameplay repeated over and over again. definitely not worth $60 to me.

I cited:

These requests were obviously handled by someone who played the game.
my friend bought the collectors edition of this game
i feel bad for him he's real bummed about the game
Are people still having luck with this?
How come somebody hasn't tried to sue the studio for blatantly misrepresenting and lying about the game? don't have it myself and was never interested in getting it anyway but I saw the Angry Joe review and it's actually quite blunt how many lies were spoken.
they most definitely need to be held accountable
Honestly to me it seems less like false advertising and more about a first-time around the block indie developer who didn't understand what they could actually realistically do and thus ended up saying a lot of what they wanted to do, but couldn't implement in the time frame they had. If Sean Murray and Hello Games keeps doing this kind of shit, yeah, I'll agree that this was a case of false advertising, but considering the inexperience of the developer and the fact that they signed on with a publisher that I doubt wanted people's hype quelled by actual realistic talks of what they can do, I don't think it's that case just yet.
No, it's false advertising. I don't care that it's their first game. You don't get a mulligan with shit like this especially because most first time developers don't do anything nearly as bad as this. It's not hard to avoid fucking up this badly.

But its not their first game, its their third. Sean Murray and the rest of the dev team are not fresh out of college, they all used to work for bigger studios.
Worst part about this is you can't just shift the blame to "the evil corporate publishers" like people do most of the time a shit game comes out. The lead dev seems entirely to blame for misleading people here.
Has there been an official statement from Hello Games regarding this whole thing?

Indie is not better than AAA
Never preorder video games. Unless it's a sequel I guess, it's a known quantity at that point.
I'm always hesitant to blame "the evil publishers", because in all honesty, companies exist to make money, and a game that's has a metric fuckton of fuckups doesn't make money.
Agreed. Most people don't understand the market and they just want to rage against the machine and defend the poor artist developers. That is rarely how things actually work.

The only games I will pre-order every time are Bethesda releases.
