Tell me how this would be remotely beneficial. New technologies (No not the phone) or new products will always be more expensive, in the case of new technologies competing companies will find ways to produce similarly performing items at lower costs (SIII). And besides maximum mark up starts to destroy the concept of free markets.

It's not like the CEO can get up and say they're gonna lower the profit, because then he'll get bitched at by stockholders and such.
This says a lot about the quality of the product. If they spent more money on the thing maybe people wouldn't keep cracking the glass on their iphones.

patents like that exist all the time, you'd really have to be naive to think Samsung hasn't both patented and sued over such patents.
Google certainly has, they even have a patent on "Google-like Search".
