Keep in mind that medical devices will probably take the better part of a decade more of testing before they even think of putting it into human testing, let alone mass production!
This. Fucking this. It took Sertraline, one of the most basic depression drugs twenty four years before it hit the market from it's discovery.
Shit takes time people, we have to make sure it doesn't eventually kill us all down the line.
Fucking amazing.
Please god don't be one of those news articles that disappears forever after it gets mentioned once.
These things take time, you gotta think long term. Just because you don't hear about it a year later doesn't mean it's dead, you gotta come back in five or ten because standards are extremely rigorous. They don't just test it for a couple of years then go "yeah close enough let's put this into circulation wait shit everybody has cancer and birth defects".
Maxwell would be proud
Also nano tech fucking rocks, the only problem now is how does one take this into a hospital setting if indeed it works in humans, that's going to take the bulk of many years with of development but theoretically this should allow us to cure really any untreatable infections, or at least provide a framework to attack like antibiotics did in the 40s, with this all we need to do is bind the magnetic proteins to a targeted infection and remove it
Bring a few thousand of those to west africa please, now.
Wait, so the artificial spleen is better than the organic ones so the doctors will say "you have HIV? Let's take it out" at some point?
If its artificial, wouldnt "Mechanispleen" be a better name for it?
As a side note, this is essentially a basic form of one of the implants in a Spess Mehreen.

So are we going to turn everyone into cyborgs.
This. Happens all too often.
Not really, it just requires years and years of testing, It's not like they can bang out animal and human trials in a week and announce it for mass-production.
Fantastic news, imagine this useful for health workers in quarantine environments.
Fantastic for every person on the planet once its mass-produced.

Not even if we could could it make it to market right away, making new drugs also requires pilot plants then full scale production which is damn difficult
...bitch!

This so much. Every single goddamn news article about medicine has at least one of those comments, scoffing that it's an empty promice etc., completely disregarding the entire process behind developing cures/drugs, I mean, just look at the timescale:

I'd rather have them testing the shit out of it, to avoid the fun stuff like the thalidomide birth defect crisis.
More people should know about it because it contributes to scientific scepticism...
Aww yeah praise be to the biospleen.

Only the ones with AIDS/HIV
removing viruses with magnets is metal as fuck
Only the ones with AIDS/HIV
It would be used an a prevention against diseases too, probably wont be mass produced for 20+ years.
We are borg

See, when I say that in previous threads, I get dumbed down and called an idiot because apparently every "cure" will be coming back in a couple of decades...
you probably say it like "this'll disappear mysteriously *cough* big pharma *cough*"
if you don't sorry
Nope, I literally state that its "another one of these threads". This forum is dreadful when it comes to bandwagonning. On topic though, its great if this actually goes ahead!
removing viruses with magnets is metal as fuck
This sounds like it's a crazy metal song from the 80's that gained sentience and went into the medical research business.
AAAAAAH MAGNETIC SPLEEEEEN
RIIIIDE THE LIGHTNING SCRUB YOUR BLOOD CLEAN
