There are a lot of similarities between micro and macro world, the electrons circling around the proton is like planets circling around the Sun
except electrons don't orbit protons in circles

Nor do astronomical bodies orbit in circles

That and things like covalent bonds are much easier to work with compared to cloudbugger fuckertheory.
How can we apply this to a practical need?

Nothing orbits in a circle. Every orbit in space is elliptical. The Copernican Model was thrown out a loooooong time ago bud.

Give the data to a group of engineers and I'm certain they will find something to do with it.
Scientists don't generally worry about practical applications, they work to discover the secrets of the universe. Engineers are the guys who take those secrets and shape them to fit human needs.

no shit
I'm talking about how they don't move in any sort of round shape
Thats the university I go to, they're always doing cool shit like that, unfortunately I'm a multimedia student so we aren't usually involved in breakthrough stuff like this.
Ok, so they discovered the Higgs Boson and they photographed an atom. I think we're on the right track to making these!

Fuuuck I read that in Farnsworth's voice because of your avatar

That being said, sigma and pi bonds are much easier to draw with orbitals than overlapping circles with whatever number of dots being shared.
