Neither is the demand for hired hit men, ransoms, stealing, and loaning from loan sharks. Which is what the cartels also do.

All those things lose their demand if drugs went away. Also, those routes of profit are so small compared to the drugs. That's why these guys are called [i]drug[/i] cartels, not kidnapping and extortion cartels.
