It's a fucking insane amount of money to charge for bail on something like this, they should have just denied him bail or something. $80,000 is a hell of a lot of money, and most people aren't going to have that on hand, or be able to take out a loan for that much.

Like always. Asshole though the guy may be, the point of a justice system is to always strive to be the bigger person. To take the high road. Animal cruelty is not a case where you are supposed to deny bail. Unless the person is an immediate threat to human life or a serious flight risk, you do not deny bail. I love animals as much as the next guy, but $80k bail is unreasonable, and if he does get jail time, I don't see it being for anything more than 6 months. There's a whole lot of bigger stuff going on right now than people who kill dogs for destroying cheap shirts, that I feel would need more attention paid to. Give this guy a brief stay, damages to the owner, and mandatory therapy. Also if the dog were just wandering around, the whole thing could've been avoided if its owner didn't let it do just that. If anything, investigate and throw the book at the guy for being a "vice lord," should his claims prove true.

I volunteered at a local animal shelter after my cat died since I wanted a quick pick-me-up. We rarely ran into animals that weren't sweet and all we had to do is smooth them over real quick with some food or something.
