Chicago Man kills Pit Bull for biting his $3 shirt.

god damnit Chicago Man
It annoys me that people are so ignorant about pit bulls, on one hand some people think they are all ruthless killing machines, on the other people act like they are all perfect little angels.
We can not ignore that they have been artificially selected in the past for dog fighting and in more recent years in some cases have been bred to look and act intimidating. This means that many pit bulls are easier to provoke to fight than other breeds without proper care/training. This however does not mean all pit bulls are all violent, with proper pet care most pit bulls are great dogs. The problem, like with many misunderstood/taboo pets, is that people get them for the sake of owning them rather than because they actually care for the animal.
Anyone else think it's possible the dog just attacked him and he fought back in self defense?

Wilkerson told police he hopped over a fence and began to beat the dogs with a milk crate.
I'm not sure how it tore his shirt but it sounds to me like if he was in any danger he put himself in it by jumping over the fence and attacking the dogs.
He should definitely go to jail for a few years or get fined. IMO it's not anything worth destroying his life over like some people are saying in this thread, but he did kill a living creature, which IMO is pretty sketch.

The artificial selection in the past doesn't affect them nearly as harshly as most people assume. For instance, during the Belyaev Experiment with foxes, after 10 generations tameness was almost completely bred into a previously wild type population. Sure, it's selective and pit bulls sometimes aren't (or are negatively selected), but they also didn't start out nearly on the wild type levels the foxes had. As with all dog breeds it mostly depends on nurture, if people are mean to the dog it's probably going to misbehave.

Like a I said, with proper care pit bulls are great dogs. However we can not ignore the breeds past, to quote the ASPCA...
Pit bulls were genetically selected for their fighting ability. What does this mean? It doesn’t mean that they can’t be around other dogs, that they’re unpredictably aggressive or that they will always fight to the death. These are all common myths about pit bulls. It does mean that they may be easily encouraged to fight with other dogs.
This would not be a problem but as I mentioned the breed attracts poor owners/breeders.
His intimidating appearance has made him attractive to people looking for a macho status symbol, and this popularity has encouraged unscrupulous breeders to produce puppies without maintaining the pit bull’s typical good nature with people. To make matters worse, irresponsible owners interested in presenting a tough image often encourage their pit bulls to behave aggressively. If a pit bull does bite, he’s far more likely to inflict serious injuries than most other breeds, simply because of his size and strength.
I am not saying the breed is evil, but they are more likely to become aggressive with poor ownership.

Several years in jail for killing a dog? That's way too much. A fine would be more appropriate.

Pitbulls were bred for dog aggression. Pitbulls that are people aggressive are a product of their owner. I have two american pit bull terriers, one is a purebred colby dog and the other is a mixed breed hurricane katrina rescue. I made the descision after years of research on the dogs so I fully understood the breed and so I would know how to properly raise and handle them. My colby dog is extremely dog aggressive, but I expected this. I have to keep her and my other dog separated 24/7.
When it comes to people however, they're both complete sweethearts. I see absolutely no signs of human aggression with my dogs. It seems that pitbulls have become the new rottweilers and dobermans of the past. Anyone who thinks this breed is made up of nothing but killing machines, I suggest you do some research on sites that aren't biased. If not, keep your mouth shut and stop spreading your willfully ignorant opinion about my dogs.
Please note that DOG aggression was bred into these dogs, but NOT people aggression. As a matter of fact, human aggression was bred OUT of these dogs. Dogs that showed any signs of human aggression were culled.
as a whole, fp really pats itself on the back for being logical, but then when a thread about an animal comes up, MUH FEELS POOR DOGGY KILL THIS MAN
Reminds me of that thread in the video and flash section where police shot dog for charging at a lady then at them. It was hard to read.
In my honest opinion I see no difference killing a human or a dog.
Yes I am a weird person
I am legitimately worried by the fact that there are people agreeing with this.
Pretty sure your average joe is way more dangerous than a dog.
alright let's put an angry you inside a cage with an angry pitbull and see how long it takes for you to change your mind

also DOGS ARE PEOPLE TOO ALL LIFE IS SACRED WE LOST ANOTHER BROTHER TODAY BLA BLA BLA
There was a good chance that the reason it it tore the shirt was because it was attacking him.
