The boy was quite stupid. Did he really think some mr.nice super police guy would come and force his parents give him his xbox back?
Parents just don't understand.
15 is a bit... old for something like this. I expected him to be 10...
...and this.
Isn't it great that those officers actually go there just to tell the brat he needs to listen to mommy and daddy?
And thanks to the parents, I bet some Facepunchers had a more quiet evening on Xbox live.
If it was his XBox that he bought with his own money, he would have been in the right to call the police on them.
A minor cannot legally own anything or sign into a contract unless they have been emancipated from their parents. The "kid's money" is really money the parents are allowing him to use. They can take away or restrict usage of anything the kid gets because it isn't legally his, it's property of the parent or whoever bought it.
He should have shot the parents after hanging up, then phone 911 back and ask if his parents had the right to be dead :v:
Is there no justice in this world? The parents should have been given 50 lashes in the town square and had their hands removed.
I bet it was like his bedtime was 12:00PM
12:00pm is noon.
Little boy needs to get the belt.
Oh wow, I thought I was addicted to videogames
15? Holy shit, he must be slow.
Hah. :v:

Only in the XBOX community.
Am I the only person here who thinks that the parents shouldn't have any right to take away their son's property?
To me that's stealing.

I bet you would've reacted differently if they had taken away his laptop.

It's not your property if they bought it for you.
And if you're a dependent, anything that you did not purchase yourself is not yours legally.
Yes you are the only person.
It's not your property if they bought it for you.
Once they gift it to you it is. Also, there's nothing in that article saying that his parents bought it anyway.
He's 15. There's a good chance that he did not buy it for himself.
Ha, I love the Onion! They're always so bang on target with their satire, it's almost as if you can imag-Oh dear.
I'm surprised, and disappointed, that the police took the time to send someone to talk sense into him. Isn't 911 supposed to be for emergencies like "my legs fell off and i'm in the middle of nowehere" rather than "are my parents allowed to take away my xbox"?

No, I agree entirely.
I'm 14 and when my parents do shit similar to that it just pisses me off how they feel they have the right to take stuff away. I'll bloody rejoice when I can leave this shit-heap country and be able to make my own decisions. 1.5-3.5 years to go.
Tokyo 2015. :h:
As for my previous statement, I just find phoning the police as a first resort to be too much.
If you don't want your parents taking away your shit, then move the hell out. They own you until you're 18 or whatever. Move out, go live with a friend, or stop bitching.

I bet you he doesn't pay the electricity bill though. and his parents probably buy the food, the telly he plays on the bed he sleeps on i think if he was wise he'd do what his parents tell him to because It's not illegal to put your kid into adoption.
It's funny that police should waste their time sending someone out to talk to this kid, whether or not he threw a tantrum or was just curious about his rights the kid sure sounds like a dimwitted prick to me
I bet a lot of posters in this thread are under 15

I said I think they shouldn't. Maybe I should've said "I feel they shouldn't" or something like that.

I don't know many countries in which you actually have the right to move out if you're a minor.

You can just leave, fuck what anyone has to say about it. If you're confident you can look after yourself then go for it. But i don't know many children who would be able to look after themself. And if for some reason your abused in the household or your parents lock you in then just phone the cops and tell them your being abused. that is if theyre not busy on calls from kids asking about their xbox

There are tons of kids who move in with friends or other family members to escape troubles at home. In fact, I had a 14 year old friend who was having problems with his mother move in with my family for a while. It's not forbidden and you won't get arrested for it.

There's still the age of majority, you can't just get a job or a house if you're underage.
It's not forbidden and you won't get arrested for it.
What?
There's still the age of majority, you can't just get a job or a house if you're underage.

You can't get in trouble from the law for moving out of your house if you're a minor. A kid has to be an idiot to think that he can get a house at that age, but moving in with a friend is not against the law. Kids do it all the time.
Therefore my point that you should either move out or quit bitching is still valid.
It's nice that actually they talked to him. Even if it was dumb as hell.

Where I live it is, against the will of your parents or the authorities at least.
