you wouldn't expect mcdonald's to suddenly be a super healthy place to eat I can't phrase it without an analogy
You do understand this is a total remake right, and whatever bugs or bad mapping the old version had is irrelevant, right?
You do understand this is a total remake right, and whatever bugs or bad mapping the old version had is irrelevant, right?
I'm saying typically people don't just suddenly change their tune, if someone does half-assed work on one project the next will probably be half-assed too (not talking about dear esther, just in general)
A commercial release? :frown: [editline]11th February 2011[/editline] Oh well, I trust the guy making it. He knows what he's doing.

This remake is being made by someone completely different.

i thought of an asian spa in a seedy part of town when I read full release not him selling his remade mod
If it's under 10$, I'll buy it. I mean it looks amazing.
Am I the only one who didn't really like Dear Esther?
Am I the only one who didn't really like Dear Esther?
I didn't. Didn't make any sense to me, it came off as one of those "oh it's so deep you just can't appreciate this fine art" things.
If you're gonna charge for it at least add proper lighting...
This means gmod is dethroned as the only source mod to get a commercial release.
This means gmod is dethroned as the only source mod to get a commercial release.
What? There's been quite a few retail source mods, such as Zeno Clash. They originally wanted it to be a mod.
If you're gonna charge for it at least add proper lighting...
The lighting looks fantastic; I think you need your eyes tested.

It's amazing

I was excited to play it, but now that it's a commercial release. No thank you. Still looks great, but I won't spend money on a really short game with no real goal.
Errr I wasn't aware you were allowed to release source mods commercially unless you purchased a liscense (which I'm not sure he did). Though then again, Garry's Mod 10 was a commercial release of a source mod. [editline]12th February 2011[/editline]
What? There's been quite a few retail source mods, such as Zeno Clash. Garry has a license to the source engine, but he didn't purchase it. He cut a deal with Valve giving them half of his sales profit. I'm guessing Dear Esther will be the same thing.
I'd buy it, as long as it's something reasonable like 4.99$
That's if Activision doesn't publish it, then expect it to be the standard $59.99
That's if Activision doesn't publish it, then expect it to be the standard $59.99
Activision isn't going to publish a game based on a source mod. Valve will.
I want to port those maps into CS:S just for fun.
How did he manage to scrounge enough money to pay for the Source engine license?
How did he manage to scrounge enough money to pay for the Source engine license?
Ever thought that Valve might've cut him a deal like they did with the NS2 team?
Dear Esther seemed like a short experience for me. It's really short and there's not much reason to replay it, so it becoming a commercial game all out of sudden is very surprising.

Gotta say, even though the original was short it was extremely well done. The atmosphere was brilliant, and I really love the story / voiceovers. Will definitely be buying this.
Yeah, I don't think I'm going to spend the money for it. As much as I love Briscoe, he's not really doing anything special here besides an HD remake of a mod that lasted maybe 30 minutes.
You might just aswell watch the entire walkthrough on youtube.
You might just aswell watch the entire walkthrough on youtube.
I'd disagree. There's more experience to it when you're actually in control.
Maybe they intend to expound the original mod's story into an actual game? I don't know, I'm just speculating here. Never heard of this until just now, so :v:
