Seemed to me like a simple mistake. It was probably really laboring for the guy to deal with this dude's massive walls of jargon and he forgot that it was $4 along the way. I must say, I respect his patience a lot. I don't know a lot of people who would remain that calm and polite in the face of such a barrage of dickishness. That's some ironclad customer service.
Yeah, i would have probably told the guy to suck my dick after the 2nd email.
wow a fucking professor making shit loads of money working at harvard, and then complaining about 4 FUCKING DOLLARS? seriously people are bitching about everything these days.
To be fair, he seemed to be upset on behalf of everyone who had been overcharged
and we wonder why harvard grads are a-moral crackpots that worship profit and leverage their positions to further enrich themselves at the expense of society as a whole? this guy is a great example of whats wrong with the ethics of the business world, fucking give up on the 4$, you're making that in like a minute of work
In the right or not, its still a dick move in my book. [editline]11th December 2014[/editline] legality and morality are separate.
Instead of thinking him petty, maybe think that he has had it with underhanded business practices, he's not the only one getting suckered out of $1 for every item he purchases. Bullshit they forgot to update their prizing. [editline]12th December 2014[/editline] [t]http://cache.boston.com/stuff/2014/12/09/email1ad.png[/t] Yup.
To be honest, This is what I would do as well. Sure $4 is $4 but its not okay to rip people off. I've made a big deal about the price being 50 cents more before.
you're the worst kind of customer and everyone in either retail or food service would love to shove you into traffic
To be honest, This is what I would do as well. Sure $4 is $4 but its not okay to rip people off. I've made a big deal about the price being 50 cents more before.
Hey look, it's a shitbag.

God forbid you put in 25 dollars, instead of the correct 24.50.
What the fuck man. its 4 dollars. not 400
Look at it a larger scale, what if he does this to every customer or just a few? then it starts adding up quickly. While I think it would be better to just tell the business owner about it, I'm sure they would reimburse him.
No, four dollars isn't a lot of money.
Better in your pocket then someone else. If i didn't receive a service/or product why should someone pay more? If the menu prices are wrong then it is the businesses fault. If you ordered a chicken sandwich from burger king and the menu says 1 dollar and when you pull thru they charge you 5 wouldn't you be pissed? Regardless of the amount, it is really the principle. IF this was a major company and not some mom-pop place i bet you would all be cheering.

The in store menus are fine and do reflect the price increase, it's just that the website was out of date.

Wow, way to play into every negative stereotype about elitist East Coast professors. Our collective right-wing Facebook uncles will be referencing this anecdote for the next 20 years.

Bullshit they forgot to update their prizing.
I'm sorry to burst your bubble but prices do go up and many small restaurants can't hire web devs to update the prices. Hell over the summer I helped out my favorite bar with their website (prices on alcohol/foods was wrong). Got a pitcher and a pint of Guinness for less than 10mins of work.
Money is money.
oy vey

How about that clickbait title and OP
I've eaten at this restaurant. Their duck is pretty good. [editline]12th December 2014[/editline] Also there are tons of people mad at this assistant professor and apparently the restaurant is overwhelmed with support by boston types who hate everything he represents
Theres nothing wrong with being frugal. Even if you're already rich.
sure legally there's nothing wrong with being a complete cunt over $4 when you're rich but i think ethically it might be a bit out of it? guy offered him a refund & even agreed to the triple refund thing as well as updating his site and he still had to be a cunt about it. but hey i guess so long as it's legal who gives a fuck? why criticize someone for being a dick if he's legally able to be one
WHAT A TOTAL FUCKING CUNT THAT GUY IS!! Seriously made me really angry reading that exchange.
To be honest, This is what I would do as well. Sure $4 is $4 but its not okay to rip people off. I've made a big deal about the price being 50 cents more before.
you must be a fucking riot [editline]12th December 2014[/editline] i just cant imagine having my head in my ass far enough to be upset about four dollars. and if this goes to court, isn't that going to take time away from his job?
No, four dollars isn't a lot of money.
And it's dollars
And it's dollars
what
To be fair, he seemed to be upset on behalf of everyone who had been overcharged
Oh come on, it's blatantly obvious he was throwing a fit and just trying to justify the overreaction to himself.
Oh come on, it's blatantly obvious he was throwing a fit and just trying to justify the overreaction to himself.
i'll destroy someones livelihood over (my) 4 dollars to, you know, protect the customer [editline]12th December 2014[/editline] (me)
What kind of idiot buys something without looking at the price, then complains later about the cost? Just because he looked at the website doesn't change things, since everyone knows the prices listed then and there at the location are what count. The amount doesn't matter, if you're one of those "it's the principle of the thing" people. He was "trying to prove a point" I'm sure. He wanted to school this business owner on a point of law, since that's what a law professor does. He got schooled on outing one's self as an ass. I wouldn't be surprised if quite a few of his colleagues are having endless chuckles at his expense.
the whole point of delivery is you don't have to go to the location
He states in the email exchange that he ordered takeout.
I don't get why they didn't just offer him the 4 dollar refund immediately. When they clearly admitted that the pricing was wrong they don't offer four, but three dollars? It's like saying "yeah we fucked up but we're only going to pay most of it back".
If I was the judge, I'd just give the guy his 4 god damn dollars out of my pocket and tell him to get the fuck out :v:
He states in the email exchange that he ordered takeout.
sometimes people use takeout to mean delivery??
