• The truth about Windows 7 and 8.1 preloading the Windows 10 .ESD even if you didn't reserve an upgra
Windows will always assume you have an unrestricted connection. Especially Windows Update, as its nothing more than a service that checks what updates you have, and downloads/installs ones you don't. You have to go out of your way to make sure it doesn't do any frivolous downloads. Windows 8 actually introduced a feature that allows you to set an wireless access point as a metered connection and programs and the system will behave accordingly if they support it.
You can configure connections as metered in W7, as well. W8+ is able to detect whether a connection is mobile or not as long as, as I said, you have an integrated mobile NIC, and it will act accordingly, by only downloading the most necessary security updates while ignoring everything else
For mobile connections that's only applicable to integrated mobile NICs and USB-connected mobile NICs. It can't do that automatically for people who use AP's. And lots of people in various nations still have limited data plans on non-mobile connections as well, which it also can't detect
Turn it off manually. Simple.
Auto-updates aside, whats with all the hate on Windows 10 anyway? I fucking love it.
Turn it off manually. Simple.
Of course, but some people don't know how. I thought Microsoft was all for user friendliness? Is Windows really complete garbage when it comes to pretty much everything now?
Who said this? I'm going to smack some sense into them.
Microsoft themselves
I thought Microsoft was all for user friendliness? Is Windows really complete garbage when it comes to pretty much everything now?
Windows 10 is less user friendly than previous versions, setting up a simple scheduled weekly scan is a ball ache and no scanning in shell are just 2 simple examples. I had to google how to schedule the scan.
Microsoft themselves
The spider and the fly poem comes to mind :v:

It asks you before you can even log in, not sure how they can make it any clearer. Afterwards you go to windows update, click "Change Settings" and change the value of a dropdown. Simple as. Windows 8.1 is exactly the same so I imagine 8 is too.
