No it's not. They can have contact with people from the outside, they can still do stuff like lifting weights or running. They can eat freely.
God forbid we treat them like humans
Jesus christ you kids on here are really starting to piss me off
No it's not. They can have contact with people from the outside, they can still do stuff like lifting weights or running. They can eat freely.
It's still mental torture. And their contact with outside people is primarily via phone. And eat freely? Uh, no not really. They have set times that they have to eat, and the food is pretty bad.

I meant they can actually put the food in their mouth by themselves. People can also visit them and do the talking through the window thing.

Yeah let's just shove a rusty pipe down their throat and force feed them ground up bits of other prisoners that died
who cares what they're in for they're in so they're subhuman

The food isn't supposed to be good, it's supposed to keep you alive.

Why is your name extroll? You're clearly still one

What I'm trying to point out is that paralysed people can't do that. It's a reason why prison is not mental torture. It's just boredom day after day.

I see why you stayed permabanned.
Why paralyse him for a fight? Just send him to prison for life.
What does that have to do with my post?
Using mental torture on someone as punishment is unbelievably cruel.
Prisons are a correctional facility. It's not even close to what would classify as mental torture. What it is though, is an effective way to put some form of restraint and punishment on people not abiding the law, and helping them get back into society.
Everyone here is going apeshit over Saudi Arabia wanting to do this, but in America the death penalty exists and most people in America seem to support it, which in reality is no different than what is trying to be done in this case.
There is a big gap between having someone in prison for life and a death sentence.
I see why you stayed permabanned.
I stayed permabanned because my ban history was nearly as long as my dick
What does that have to do with my post?
I took it as you were supporting the idea of paralysing him.

There I was pointing out that paralysing someone is mental torture (I'm assuming here it'd be a full body paralysis) and its cruel, which is why he should just be sent to prison, which is not cruel.

The point of prison isn't supposed to mentally torture someone, where did you get that idea
The point of prison isn't to mentally torture someone, where did you get that idea

No.

Well thanks captain obvious, wouldn't have figured that one out without you.
The argument is about all the Americans screaming at this while they support the death penalty.
Prison isn't mental torture and you are ridiculously uninformed if you truly believe so.

Yes it is, in America anyway. They're mostly lawless shitholes, the exact opposite of what a prison is supposed to be.

America is fucked beyond repair when it comes to things I actually look for in a country. I heard some prison stories in Canada and met some people who were there, it's really not bad.
If I was a bum I'd be considering getting into prison.
Isn't the Death penalty in the US only given for first degree murder and worse? It's also given by a judge instead of the victim or their family. Although I disagree with the death penalty, it's not a simple eye for an eye system of use.
Isn't the Death penalty in the US only given for first degree murder and worse?
It can be used against more than just murderers, but it's probably far less likely.
It's also given by a judge instead of the victim or their family.
What. They have that shit in America? You best be kidding and just mistook that for a jury..
Although I disagree with the death penalty, it's not a simple eye for an eye system of use.
The concept of taking a life for another still remains. retribution is never the way to go about things.
Your punishing people for killing someone by killing them. Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds?
What. They have that shit in America? You best be kidding and just mistook that for a jury..
He's right. The judge decides the sentence.
He's right. The judge decides the sentence.
He said "Instead of the victim or their family" which implied that it existed, which is just ridiculous.
All cases should be either tried by either Judge or Jury and shouldn't be any other way.
Again, I don't know anything about American law, and so the way he worded that was weird. It is pretty obvious that the victim or their family should not decide the fate of the perpetrator. That never even happened throughout history.
I mean why would you even say something like that if it doesn't apply.
"Hurr I'm sure glad our laws aren't written by beavers!"
this is the most bipolar forum i have ever seen
I say he deserves it. If someone crippled you, wouldn't you want them crippled too? However, there are certain measures: Did the paralyzed man start the fight? Was he attacked?

No, I wouldn't want them crippled too unless they like directly crippled me on purpose. Even then, it wouldn't happen, because my personal desires and wishes do not make up the legal system, thankfully.

I was talking about how in the original story, the decision to paralyse him was made by the victim and his brother.
I was talking about how in the original story, the decision to paralyse him was made by the victim and his brother.
The brother simply suggested it, ultimately it is the judge that decides. If you've read the article you'd notice it says that retribution is common in Saudi Arabia.
That's pretty inhumane, especially since the man didn't even mean to paralyze the other man.
The brother simply suggested it, ultimately it is the judge that decides. If you've read the article you'd notice it says that retribution is common in Saudi Arabia.
I know it's common but the victim still holds a lot of influence in the sentence, the fact that he is able to make a suggestion to the court shows he has more power than in American courts. He had already been given a prison sentence and this is being done on top of that.
