I'm really Don't think this is just a visual glitch knowing youtube this is damage control...a-fucking-gain.
They can just roll back data if they've really screwed the pooch.
Seems like the rampant loss of subscribers have stopped, subs are now behaving normally, but the "lost" subs are not yet restored. Lol, Tana Mongeau has almost lost two million subs
A counter glitch, a visual glitch, are they not both the same thing?
They aren't. A visual glitch would be if the underlying number representing how many subscribers someone has was different than what was actually displayed. A counter glitch would be if the underlying number representing how many subscribers someone has was the same number as what was displayed.
echo (user.subscribers - 500)
If that code was used to display how many subscribers someone had, it would be inaccurate, because it would always be 500 less than what they actually have. The actual number is unaffected, only the display. That is a visual glitch.
echo user.subscribers
If that code was used to display how many subscribers someone had, it would be accurate. If you are noticing that the number displayed is always 500 less than what the user actually has, it's because when you are storing the subscribers, you are storing the number - 500. That is a counter glitch.
The lost subs should be rolling back now. Mine have.
Ahahaha negative subs are you fucking kidding :excited:
Most fun I've had on YouTube since 2007. Thanks y'all
It's absolutely ridiculous that the staff of YouTube has denied that this sort of shit is even happening :speechless:
just remember boys
The fact that many people's finances depend on YouTube is a terrifying thought. What with the the lack of transparency and constant changes without any input from the users themselves...then bullshit explanation videos like this one.
Most if not all youtube monetization things operate on views, not subscribers and for good reason--subscribers don't necessarily translate to instant views. I have many people I'm subscribed to that I haven't watched in months, and there are many, many inactive accounts subscribed to channels. I could see where accidental unsubscriptions would hurt views, but people who didn't notice things on their sub feed went awry probably weren't watching or noticing those videos anyway. This new glitch has genuinely little to do with anything real as far as money, it's just a simple visual error. But the furor that it's sparked I think goes to show just how much the number of subscribers people apparently really matters to people, and how it's become a big pissing contest. I've seen people elsewhere get worked up over how x youtuber they don't like has y subscribers and how that somehow affects them or affects their favorite other youtuber, or people who make those live sub count streams after a youtube drama and get thousands of views. Speaking of drama videos, that's a major factor in this too. Youtube has sparked a literal cult of personality attached to each youtuber who watches their sub counts like a hawk and counts every dollar they make like it personally affects them. I enjoy watching drama shit as much as the next guy, but only for shock and comedy value, the same reason why people watch Jerry Springer. I think there's a lot of people on youtube who assign way too much value to these sorts of things. These youtubers have a lot of people who will believe anything they say, and for right or for wrong they have a lot of influence on what people believe. For every teenager/20-something here who says they are not affected by all this stuff, there are 20 12 year olds who are. Maybe I'm rambling a bit but it's something to definitely think about when we talk about sub counts and the importance ascribed to them, and the culture within Youtube that creates it.
If Google could stop fucking YouTube up more and more, that'd be nice. Frankly I think its time someone puts up a good alternative.
