you can't destroy what's been preprogrammed
You're right. You can't really change what's been programmed into the mind. Which is why people transition and get sex changes and whatnot. If your mind has been programmed to tell you that you're a woman even though you have male genitalia, that isn't something you can simply ignore or change. It's far easier to change the body to fit the mind rather than the other way around which is impossible as far as psychologists can tell.
maybe i should know better not to post period
Fixed that for ya. [editline]10th August 2014[/editline] Also do you honestly think the brain comes preprogrammed? If so then I got some news for ya.
Ad hominem I see? I'm don't hate trans people or anything just like I don't hate people who get a tattoo, but in both cases I think it is dumb decision. At least with a tattoo you can reverse it if you really need to.
in either case no one cares what you think, nor should they. you're entitled to your opinion but people who feel like they're in the wrong body have no reason to listen to you what so ever.
Fixed that for ya. [editline]10th August 2014[/editline] Also do you honestly think the brain comes preprogrammed? If so then I got some news for ya.
i never said brain buddy there are these things called x and y chromosomes regardless this doesn't matter to you but just wanted to set the record straight since that's not what i was saying
"modifying your physique" is a euphemism more like destroying your body and pumping yourself full of chemicals so you can tell yourself you are what you aren't. i don't care that people do this to themselves, it's their lives and they can do what they want why the fuck would you want to destroy what nature's given you? i genuinely just don't undestand
how about rather than being arrogant and pretending you know the ins and outs of the topic you read a few paragraphs on wikipedia
i never said brain buddy there are these things called x and y chromosomes regardless this doesn't matter to you but just wanted to set the record straight since that's not what i was saying
those really don't determine as much as you'd like to think
i never said brain buddy there are these things called x and y chromosomes regardless this doesn't matter to you but just wanted to set the record straight since that's not what i was saying
All chromosomes do is physical formation. The Y chromosome has a gene that activates other boy-making genes. It only indirectly gives mental affect (boy fetus, testosterone).
i never said brain buddy there are these things called x and y chromosomes regardless this doesn't matter to you but just wanted to set the record straight since that's not what i was saying
There are women born with Y chromosomes. You honestly dont even know what you're talking about.
you're right, i'm being thick. or a dick, take your pick http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Androgen_insensitivity_syndrome [editline]d[/editline] im sorry i love rhyming
man, it's always the hardcore anti-lgbt people who end up being gay/trans guess Freud was right
If you wanna dress like a woman then okay, but I don't see how mutilating your own body is acceptable.
I don't get it and I won't pretend that I'll ever get it because I do not have a gender identity disorder but if they're going far enough to mutilate their genitals, they obviously have a good reason.
There are loads of people who have nonbinary gender identities. Such as agender or bigender people, etc.
I know this already. I made a mistake saying opposing in that manner. I meant opposing to sex...
you are the gender you say you are
I disagree. I think you are the gender that you feel you are. For example, I'm going to say that I am a woman, out load, in my room... ... ... There I said it. I really did. Am I woman now in your view? Because you make it sound that simple.
Sexes are assigned gender unnecessarily. Therefore, the difference between a cis person and a trans person is that the cis person is assigned female or male at birth and is ok with that, but a trans person is assigned female or male at birth and identifies themself as non-cis.
This is the same as writing: A trans person is assigned female or male at birth and identifies themself as trans. Do you see my issue with this statement? A trans person is a person who identifies as trans? It's circular.
Sexes do not have inherent gender.
I agree with this in general. But with babies not so much. I feel that expectations are a part of humanity, to the point where those expectations are themselves inherent. When someone is born a female, it is practically inherent that they are called a girl and that they are called a she by their family members and society as a whole. Is their gender not inherent to their sex at this particular time?
The idea of gender is prescribed to the sexes by centuries-old societal factors.
The centuries-old societal factors arose for a reason though. Sexual dimorphism. The idea of gender prescription arose through the expectation that one would conform to the average behavior and physicality of their respective, practically binary sexes. Genders are a result of that expectation. Sex dimorphism hasn't disappeared yet, and either have human expectations. So even if we set up a new society with no gender based influences from centuries-old societies, expectations would emerge and sex dimorphism would be taken into account. So the idea of gender may be old, but that doesn't mean it is only around because of history.
why the fuck would you want to destroy what nature's given you? i genuinely just don't undestand
i mean, nature gives you cancer cells too anyway, you just don't understand it because you've never had to deal with the idea of being born in a body that doesn't fit with your gender. it's that simple.
Ad hominem I see? I'm don't hate trans people or anything just like I don't hate people who get a tattoo, but in both cases I think it is dumb decision. At least with a tattoo you can reverse it if you really need to.
No that's not an ad hominem, an ad hominem would be calling you stupid or some other personal insult. You fucking moron.
No that's not an ad hominem, an ad hominem would be calling you stupid or some other personal insult. You fucking moron.
you got it right but then you managed to do what you accused him of
Frank Maloney was one of me heroes as a lad. Hearing this is a wee bit jarring, but good for her.
you got it right but then you managed to do what you accused him of
I think that was the joke.

Three Pages and no one made this joke yet? [t]http://images4.fanpop.com/image/photos/18500000/2x08-Raging-Bender-futurama-18556264-720-540.jpg[/t]
There are loads of people who have nonbinary gender identities. Such as agender or bigender people, etc.
nah not really, those are either hyped up cultural traditions or pseudoscientific psychology. truth of the matter is that there are men and women, and the term "transgender" is a bit slightly misleading in some aspects. a mtf is always a female, they don't start out as male and change into a female, but they were always a female. likewise for a ftm, where they were always a male, instead of changing into one from female. the only thing that changes is the physical body. the brain remains intact
The idea of gender is prescribed to the sexes by centuries-old societal factors.
literate civilizations have been writing about this for several thousand years, while sexual dimorphism is common among mammals. sure you'd had cases of people writing about trans individuals for thousands of years or reciting them in oral tales, but that doesn't really necessitate the existence of bigender or agender people.
