From an objective stand point, what reason is there to believe in religion other than not being able to handle life's trials on your own?

Oh shut up that's not why people are religious
Oh shut up that's not why people are religious
Then what value does religion have?
Religion can, as far as I can see, only be used as a crutch in order to cope with life, that's why poorer people/unfortunate people flock to religion, trying to either feel better about themselves, or hoping they'll get in to "heaven"
According to you, what's the reason people are religious then? other than brainwashing from a young age.

Not to mention how much religion has been used for control, power and money. It has no use other than a placebo of pseudo hope.
A good man, my father once said that "The wise don't follow the path of deities or prophets, they follow their own path".

religion is used as something for many people to find hope and guidance, yes, but you paint it as something weak and pitiful.
it's just so great to know that such competent and knowledgeable people are running the church these days
God damn those pesky vatican fellows and their cheese.
Yeah, the world's 2.3 billion Christians would probably be pretty chill with it.
Ooh, that would be nice. Bother the Christians, annex the Vatican. I want fancy cheeses.
Not all Christians are catholic, and not all Catholics actually care.
stop with all these cheesy jokes guys
"But states can and must regulate behaviours, including various sexual behaviours," he said.
"Throughout the world, there is a consensus between societies that certain kinds of sexual behavior must be forbidden by law. Paedophilia and incest are two examples."
:irony:
goddamnit vatican/pope
just when i thought you were cool for saying that evolution worked with catholicism

What exactly is the difference, may I ask, aside from the general acceptance of homosexuals and the general dislike of pedophiles?
They are both sexual behaviors outside of the norm, and a sexual attraction to something that isn't standard.
paedophilia affects those who can't consent.
Oh shut up that's not why people are religious
Disagree. I'd say it's at least a reasonably large part of it, speaking as a once-catholic.
There's nothing intrinsically bad about having crutches, but many forms of religion are. I don't think the people following them realise it though.
Homosexuality is a sexual orientation, while pedophilia is paraphilia.
There is nothing wrong with being a paedophile, but when they perform sexual acts on children, or supporting them then there is a problem in my opinion.

It's unfortunate that someone could get "paedophile" in the paraphilia lottery, as it's probably the most looked down upon and has one of the highest potentials for harming innocent people. I feel sorry for paedophiles (the ones who aren't child molesters or real CP distributors).
And a pizza store called Cheesus Crust.
And all the cars come from Jesus Chrystler?
What the fuck do you know about human rights, vatican?
What the fuck do you know about human rights, vatican?
Nothing.
Simple as that.
I can't believe these guys have national sovereignty. I wouldn't trust them with a dull butter knife, certainly not diplomatic immunity.

"I challenge you to prove me wrong except you aren't allowed to use the one answer that will prove me wrong"
There is also 'Cheese and Rice!'
I'm pretty sure this song applies here. At least somewhat.
