I work in a real estate and we've had to deal with psycho drug-riddled bogan squatters who burnt down one of our owner's homes then annexed the remains. It was a real bitch to get sorted out.

Which in this case is definitely contestable. I can understand the police not being able to do anything at the moment - what strikes me as odd is how long it takes to have that eviction hearing.

I thought you had to be living in the place for a certain amount of time, sans a binding contract, before you can claim you are a squatter entitled to any rights...? Like months, not a week.

cool fact: In the UK, you can be legally tried and sued for hurting a burglar. I'm not just talking about deadly force. If a burglar or rapist or just about anyone busts into your house, and you happen to give them a black eye while forcing them out, expect to be in a court room soon. As a defendant.
