Bernie's got a chance!!!
I can just imagine the shit-storm on social media if Bernie "Got-damned Communist Libtard!" Sanders ended up in office despite all of this. It's not going to happen, but still semi-funny to think about.
Faithless votes count, and can be cast for literally anyone. There was a case in 2004 where an elector accidentally voted for "John Ewards", who doesn't even exist, and that vote was considered valid. You might be thinking of what happens if the EC deadlocks and the election goes to the House. There, they are forced to choose from the top three candidates who received votes in the Electoral College. In theory, if the EC gave 269 votes to Clinton and 269 to Sanders, the House would be unable to elect Trump even if they unanimously wanted to.
Well I'll be damned Harambe 2016
The optimism is too real
Anything better than Hillary tbh
Well I'll be damned Harambe 2016
If the EC elects someone constitutionally ineligible (eg. not an American citizen, under age of 35, fought for the Confederacy in the Civil War after swearing an oath to uphold the Constitution, etc.), the election would be voided somehow, probably by the Supreme Court. Harambe was only 17, and is thus ineligible for the Presidency. (What the fuck did I just write?)
Just this one guy voting Bernie will cement Bernie on the 2016 electoral map forever - the first time a third party candidate has gotten an electoral vote since George Wallace. Maine will have to be tri-colored, the first time that's ever occurred in US history, because Hillary will hold 2 EC votes, Trump holds 1 EC vote, and Bernie will get 1 through a faithless elector. That's a first, ever - the triple crosshatch covering Maine is the only time three candidates have each won an electoral vote from a single state. This is a great symbolic gesture, really. It cements Bernie onto the electoral map and permanently marks down his influence on the 2016 election. I'll just be a little pissed if there actually is a large group of faithless electors that go Hillary and she only loses by one EC vote because of this guy. [U]Then it's just funny and sad at I heard more people defected from Clinton's Camp then trumps

Jeb or die
Is Bernie really a third party candidate though? I mean, he is a democrat and everything.
He was independent before 2015, but always canvassed with the Democrats. So, he's semi-third party in my opinion.
Turns out it all was rigged against Bernie. http://www.pressherald.com/2016/12/19/maine-electoral-college-elector-says-he-will-cast-his-ballot-for-sanders/ OP's vote was invalidated and recast for Clinton, RIP
Maine is one of 30 states with laws requiring electors to vote as pledged. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, the consequence for violating these laws is often a fine, but no elector has ever been penalized or replaced. Bright said he didn’t want Sanders supporters to lose faith. “The very least I can do is tell these new voters, ‘Look, somebody did listen to you. I want you to know that politics is hard, democracy is hard and messy. Sometimes you lose elections, but you need to stay in there,’ ” Bright said.
That's a stupid law to have. It's defeats the purpose of the EC stopping a demagogue from taking office.
That's a stupid law to have. It's defeats the purpose of the EC stopping a demagogue from taking office.
Yeah, I think its pretty dumb too. If we insist on having an electoral college then we shouldn't be restricting who they vote for. It is probably unconstitutional to bound electors, but no one in a elector's position has challenged it in court.

He should have been a real badass and still voted Sanders and paid the fine. (User was banned for this post ("Dumb 4chan language that has no place here" - Craptasket))
In order to keep people on their toes, the electoral college will collaborate to vote Sanders in on the condition that he has Jeb Bush as his VP.
In order to keep people on their toes, the electoral college will collaborate to vote Sanders in on the condition that he has Jeb Bush as his VP.
I smell a sitcom!
4 electoral votes are casted as unfaithful in washington (all dem votes but 3 are for a republican alternative)
Faith Spotted Eagle for president!
Seems there was a second guy in Minnesota who tried to cast his ballot for Sanders/Gabbard, Muhammad Abdurrahman, but it was also invalidated by MN state law and he was replaced with a backup elector. Colin Powell, though... what the fuck?
Faith Spotted Eagle for president!
seems like a woman i can trust
So wait, theirs more faithless electors refusing to vote for Hillary? Holy shit, that is comical.
So wait, theirs more faithless electors refusing to vote for Hillary? Holy shit, that is comical.
Not so much "refusing to vote for Hillary" as "protesting how Trump won the election with a broken system".
Welp.
Even if these next 4 years of GOP leaves me with indigestion, knowing that people like Sanders and there will be more like him in government in the future gives me hope.
seems like a guy i can trust
faith spotted eagle is a woman http://www.cnn.com/2016/11/01/us/standing-rock-sioux-sacred-land-dakota-pipeline/
So wait, theirs more faithless electors refusing to vote for Hillary? Holy shit, that is comical.
I guess they're doing the political equivalent of pissing in a sea of piss. A sea about to be drained and replaced with an avalanche of shit, so it doesn't matter lol
