fucking iceland :argh:
Iceland is fucking awesome, hot springs and all that shit.
My dad works at ATC at Stansted, expected to be closed for another day or two. but thats just speculation.
Breaking news: It is fucking filled with ash outside.
Where?
Ahahaha the BBC regions went into Technical Fault mode after the news special (thank god for no cash in the attic).
We get full sun like mid-day today on saturday, better not wreck that day ;)
Haha, I was ment to be flying back to England today from California. Looks like I ain't missing that party after all.
Here in Holland, the airports will close at 19.00 local time, does anyone know if the cloud will be visible from the ground?
It's over Sweden now :buddy: [editline]06:15PM[/editline] It's supposed to be sunny now :argh:
What does this ash look like? Just like normal clouds?
blue sky in norway - oslo
They say that the sunset in the Netherlands will be exceptionally red... FUCK YEAH!
A friend of mine was supposed to be coming back from New York today and had his flight canceled. which he happily informed everyone about.
5:45pm in the uk. where is my ash
I'm in Manchester and I see no Ash.
Me either :v:
Where's my ash too. :( Although, I thought I smelt a tiny bit of ash, but that's probably just my neighbour doing stuff.
Still blue skies in London.
I just found an interesting screenshot of a radar screen on another forum (IVAO). http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/8783/1004151350z.png
Thats surreal... Infact there is still about 2% of domestic UK air traffic flying about today. Everything in uncontrolled "Class G" airspace is still free to fly as they please - so microlights, paragliders, gliders and any other kind of aircraft, powered or not, that operates in Class G can still do so at their own risk. Seems a lot of aviators today are willing to take risks...
You *might* see a weird coloured sky once the sun dips down a bit further. Other than that, it's too high to be visible. And it's going to stay that way.
Peter Griffin doesn't look so stupid now with his volcano insurance.
I was rushing out late this morning so didn't get the chance to hear of this until I was on the bus going to work. My mum sent me a text, assuming I knew all about this, saying "grounded. can't fly home today because of the cloud." It was the most confusing text I've ever received. I think I actually said "WHAA?" out loud on the bus.
Ash stop shutting down our airports you bastard!
Anyone watch the 2nd ever Pokemon film??
Disturb not the harmony of Fire, Ice, or Lightning, Lest these Titans wreak destruction upon the world in which they clash. Though the water's Great Guardian shall arise to quell the fighting, Alone its song will fail. Thus the Earth shall turn to ash. O, Chosen One, into thine hands bring together all three. Their treasures combined, tame the beast of the sea. From the trio of islands, ancient spheres shall you take, For between life and death, o the diff'rence you'll make. O, Chosen One, climb to the shrine to right what is wrong, And the world will be healed by the Guardian's song.
I just took some pictures with my Nikon D80. Location is Denmark, close to copenhagen. No idea if this is unusual.
I was wanting this..
Does this mean it will be snowing ash?
I'm in the ash cloud zone, skies bluer than ever. This sucks.
Pompeii 2.0 Also, it will be interesting to see how this affects the climate. As I recall, during the days after 9/11 where all the flights were grounded across the US, the temperature range (the lowest temperature of the day subtracted from the highest) rose by several degrees. This was consistent across all states, and was because of the lack of exhaust trails that ususally cause global dimming. This will be a golden opportunity to test how volcanic ash affects the climate without interference from aircraft contrails.
I just took some pictures with my Nikon D80. Location is Denmark, close to copenhagen. [pictures] No idea if this is unusual.
I can see that shit too at Lund, Southern Sweden. All air traffic in Sweden will be shut down at 21.00 GMT.
And FYI, this is a very little amount of ash. Here in Denmark it's not going to be visible at all. Mah automerge.
there is plenty of it in denmark. you are wrong.
It's occurred to me that this is perhaps the first time in a good few years that we've been able to see the sky above the UK completely free of vapour trails...
