If it's a 24-page letter they may have cherry-picked the funny parts. Quite possible his living conditions, in other parts, are quite shit, or maybe they've misquoted him.
Wow fuck you, you're in one of the best prisons in the fucking world. Take him to a prison in Mexico or Brazil and then let's see him complain about North European prisons.
And you haven't even seen German prisons. Some people keep comitting minor crimes to get thrown back in because they like it so much there.
Well, reading this thread has at least helped me realize that there's a difference in American prison institutions (which sound horrible, judging by the tone of the posts) and prison institutions in Scandinavia. I've seen prisons from TV, all of them being American prisons, since finnish prisons wouldn't probably be enjoyable to watch in contrast to all the crazy shit that seems to happen on american prisons.

It's only natural that a ton of self-centered criminals would react badly towards being locked up in an awful concrete box for several years, with axe-crazy bastards around every corner and gangs running amok. Whoever thought that such a place would successfully deter the majority of crime has no idea how a criminal thinks; he doesn't say "this is a bad place, I'm gonna do whatever it takes to avoid coming back here again," he says "this is a bad place, I'm gonna do whatever it takes to avoid coming back here again whilst getting back at the people who put me here." Ironically enough, criminals find themselves wanting retribution much like the people who put them there in the first place. I mean, hypocritical as it may be, a rapist probably isn't gonna enjoy getting raped himself once put in jail, which, at the end of the day, just makes for one more angry rapist psycho.

He rambles more than a Republican carrying out a filibuster.
