All the people on the internet right now claiming that this proves that islam is a threat are fucking idiots. Jesus Christ have some fucking decency and don't go "hmm a new mass shooting how do I use this to further my anti-muslim agenda?". My thoughts go out to all the families and loved ones of the victims, acts like these just leave me speechless. What is there to gain from killing a bunch of innocent people?
What are we supposed to do, mope about for a week and forget? The answer isn't to pray and cry and do nothing. In order to stop this senseless violence, we have to talk about politics. We have to talk about solutions.
I'm not saying that we shouldn't do anything, I'm saying that blaming an entire religion for the actions of a minority of extremists is an incredibly stupid thing to do.
If people are allowed to bitch about toxic <insert subject>, I can talk about toxic Islam. Just because you critique certain aspects of a group, does not mean you have hatred towards them. In that case, all feminists really do hate men, all black lives matter supporters hate whites, ect. This is what causes confusion and backlash
You're free to critique Islam as much as you like but once you start insinuating that all muslims are extremist timebombs waiting to blow I'm not going to put much stock in what you have to say.
Read a small story about how investigators had to hear the terrible noise of all the cellphones in the pockets of the deceased ringing again and again on the floor in the club from calls of loved ones/friends. That's some chilling shit to think about. It fucking sucks how close to home this shooting hit. RIP to all those people.

It reminds me of a 9/11 documentary I saw a while back, survivors and emergency responders were talking about how you could hear all of the PASS devices of fallen firefighters simultaneously going off throughout the rubble. I couldn't imagine what that would be like, truly horrific to say the least.
Not to get political (although it looks like the thread doesn't need my help there) but I'm kind of surprised that this has mostly gone completely accepted as a tragedy and nobody's been going "Well they deserved it for being sinning queers' or some stupid shit. Sign of changing times. I imagine LGBT activism is going to get a lot more fervent as well now that this has happened.
I've never actually met someone that wished death to gay people. Even the most far-right, evangelical Christian people I've met only say at most that they disagree with the lifestyle, think it's a choice, they're sinners and need jesus, etc. Never, ever death.
This is really sad http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/36514358
this has fucking enraged me what fucking son of a bitch does this to people, makes people suffer like that
Maybe I'm just unlucky. I hear it all the time.
Where? IIRC I've only ever heard this from the Westboro Baptist Church and the occasional radical Muslim preacher.
The FBI is holding a press conference now, actually really insightful
The Bar was a "gun free zone" fyi, lot of good that did.
Yeah I can imagine it was a gun free zone, what's your point? Imho the right to carry firearms should be mostly unrestricted, everywhere
Maybe someone on a terrorist watch list that tries to buy a gun should be surveyed by the FBI for awhile? Or maybe have to take a mental health assessment? If the FBI asked his ex-wife about him it seems like it could of been avoided.
This. Also reported by a work colleague.
Where? IIRC I've only ever heard this from the Westboro Baptist Church and the occasional radical Muslim preacher.
Friend has a coworker that constantly talks about how he "used to go down to lil' five points and beat them fags with a stick as soon as i saw 'em. thats how its done [anon]" Granted this is the same fucker who, when asked if he'd seen the newest avengers movie, said "[anon] I don't watch that gay shit, I have one superhero in mah life and his name is Jeezus" And then 5 minutes later "[Anon] you need to get you sum pussy, why don't you go to the bar and grab you some whores?"
We'll probably see more attacks like this in the next month. ISIS has called for increased attacks during Ramadan. http://www.reuters.com/article/us-mideast-crisis-islamicstate-idUSKCN0YC0OG
neither do citizen-held weapons capable of murdering 50 people before getting stopped not that the fucking gun nuts will ever understand the difference between simple self defence pistols and mass murder weapons
Any fucking weapon is "capable of murdering 50 people". I don't know where you get this insane idea that a "simple self-defense pistol" can't fucking kill anyone.
I've been wondering about this recently. Often times Americans, and others, say that everyone has the "right to keep and bear arms" but never mentioning the "well-regulated militia" bit. Are all American citizens part of a "well-regulated militia" or what the fuck is the reasoning/explanation between interpreting the constitution as such, so that quite literally every citizen has the right? Starpluck, Pantz fucking Master, or anyone who thinks they know, go ahead and enlighten me.
Sure, thing. "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state," A state's existence relies on it's ability to have a well armed(well regulated) military(militia) force. "the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed" The citizens of this new nation have a right to keep and bear weapons. These weapons can be the exact same as the militias, as was the case in the 1700's with privateers having ships armed with cannons. The militia and government has no right to take these weapons away, as this is a right granted as a natural birthright. The latter part of this was actually reinforced with United States v. Miller, which found that the 2nd Amendment protects the citizen's right to own and use weapons which are in use with whatever body of militia is in existence at the point in time. This amendment actually was in part taken from the British Bill of Rights, as well as taken from several religious texts, including the Bible and Quran.
Luke 22:36 and 38: "Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.... And they said, Lord, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough."

And when you are among them and lead them in prayer, only a group of them should be with you, and they must keep their weapons with them; so when they have performed their prostrations they should move away behind you; and the other group that had not prayed, must come and offer prayers in your leadership, keeping their guard and weapons with them; the disbelievers wish that you neglect your arms and your means so they may overpower you with a single attack; it is no sin for you to lay aside your arms due to rain or if you are sick; and keep your guard; undoubtedly Allah has kept prepared a disgraceful punishment for the disbelievers. [Quran 4:102]

If you want to put an end to this type of voilence, there is only one solution, heavy restrictions on gun availability or even banning.
are we forgetting that this exact same thing happened over on this side of the pond in France with even more casualties?
I still don't see why anyone can just go and buy guns in the usa. If you seriously don't care about people dying left and right all the time then I have as much respect for you as the terrorists that commit these vile crimes. If you want to put an end to this type of voilence, there is only one solution, heavy restrictions on gun availability or even banning. I'd be in favor of banning it but I know that it wont happen what with all the crazy gun nuts you guys have running around shooting things.
Yes, let's ban all guns because that makes them instantly disappear! What an amazing idea! Also, anyone who owns a gun uses them to shoot people. Obviously.
The US has about 1 mass shoting every day ffs
It doesn't.
It doesn't.
The definition of mass shooting isn't the same as public mass shooting. Frankly, most people could care less about gang on gang violence that dramatically increases the amount of gun violence recorded in the US. Americans are only really are concerned with acts of random violence targeting innocents in public. Gang shootings rarely, even with multiple deaths, get passed the local news.
I had a friend that was there, I haven't seen him post on facebook or heard from him since it happened. Edit: Apparently he's in the hospital right now but I don't know how serious his injuries are.
Found out he passed away this morning. Great way to start the day I guess.

Even if they took it the streets as above. It seems the only way for people to wrap their mind around this fact is if moderate Muslims— in a walking act of contradiction— began to shoot up places and employ violence to advance anti-extremist and pro-homosexuality causes. Then you would hear about it in the media. But no one is going to report cases of Muslims and imams peacefully protesting in the street in the news.
What the hell? This doesn't seem right.
These are overwhelmingly moderate muslims living in the West. Supporting LGBT rights in the West is safe. Islam does endorse trans people though.

What the hell?
What the hell? This doesn't seem right.
Why not? You can be muslim and have a different sexual orientation other than straight or at least support them, it's just like anything else.
