Are you seriously trying to blame western culture for this?
Yes, we should throw liberal values in the bin because muslims don't like it.
Are you seriously trying to blame western culture for this?
No I blame a lunatic idiot for this
I said it incites terror. Maybe "causes terror upon people" is better wording
But it doesn't do that?
I'm an O- and would gladly give my blood. Too bad I can't do anything but to wish strength for everyone involved.
Same here. I think I'll go donate tomorrow after work.
IMO being worried that people would call this a terrorist attack is no reason to actively push the worst shooting in US history under the rug
I don't think letting people comment things like "Muslim barbarians should all be killed anyways." was contributing anything either.
I don't think letting people comment things like "Muslim barbarians should all be killed anyways." was contributing anything either.
That doesn't explain why EVERYONE is being banned/shadowbanned/having their posts deleted or why every thread about it that isn't the megathread (which can't show up on r/all) is being deleted.

Its the same thing that would happen on Facepunch. It's a huge tragedy and they don't want 500+ plus threads all saying different things, it's why SH doesn't want multiple threads on ongoing events either.
Just go read their apology on the Boston Bomber fiasco to see their state of mind now.
Regardless of their motives for covering everything up, the execution is so bad that the backlash against them is going to be worse than the one for the boston bombers
Its the same thing that would happen on Facepunch. It's a huge tragedy and they don't want 500+ plus threads all saying different things, it's why SH doesn't want multiple threads on ongoing events either.
They deleted/locked the first thread and put the megathread up after that so it wouldn't reach frontpage
I always fear the social consequences of these attacks just as much as I do the attacks themselves. There will be a massive backlash of misguided outrage, ugliness, and hatred in the weeks and months that follow. The social and political aftershocks of this tragedy will inevitably cause more long-term damage to the harmony of the country than the attack itself.
Agreed. Reading the threads on Reddit for example brought out so much knee-jerk shit, just pure garbage. Hate is a strong thing man
I don't think letting people comment things like "Muslim barbarians should all be killed anyways." was contributing anything either.
Offering condolences and sympathy ≃ Advocating genocide
Just go read their apology on the Boston Bomber fiasco to see their state of mind now. It is pretty evident that there is a disturbing problem when this is the first thing you see in the megathread. [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/9mcfrry.png[/img_thumb]

It's terrible that it took a shooting at a gay night club for gay men to be allowed to donate blood.
It's terrible that it took a shooting at a gay night club for gay men to be allowed to donate blood.
It shouldn't require a tragedy for us to realize what is wrong with our society and laws today.
It's terrible that it took a shooting at a gay night club for gay men to be allowed to donate blood.
Yeah, it's absolutely ridiculous. It's not like people are getting paid to do it. People do it because they care and want to help.
Regardless of their motives for covering everything up, the execution is so bad that the backlash against them is going to be worse than the one for the boston bombers They deleted/locked the first thread and put the megathread up after that so it wouldn't reach frontpage
Unless the backlash from this results in family members potentially filing lawsuits against Reddit and the nightly news decrying the site I highly doubt that.
Regardless of their motives for covering everything up, the execution is so bad that the backlash against them is going to be worse than the one for the boston bombers
People will forget it before next week is over.
Offering condolences and sympathy ≃ Advocating genocide
Go look at the unreddit link and tell me that's what all the deleted posts look like.
Agreed. Reading the threads on Reddit for example brought out so much knee-jerk shit, just pure garbage. Hate is a strong thing man
The paradox of tolerance says that when a tolerant person holds intolerant views against intolerance, by definition they're guilty of intolerance themselves. However, extending unlimited tolerance against those intolerant of tolerance just leads to the destruction of the tolerant, and tolerance with them. If intolerant individuals and groups are themselves complaining of intolerance, tolerant people should restrict their freedom if they have good reason that their security and public freedom are at risk if it isn't done. It's simple self preservation for the sake of the societal good. People are always going to group up with others of similar ideals, and terror groups are no different. They rely on those who espouse the same ideals they do as fertile ground for recruiting others to their cause, and also try to push those who might sympathize with them, but are not yet decided on taking it further, to take the step over the line into becoming another soldier for the terror group, or at the very least, support them logistically. I'm equally worried about the consequences of religious backlash that this incident is going to spark, considering that fearmongering and manipulation of a tragedy for its own ends, especially the misguided outrage of those who don't know any better, is going to be worse than the attack itself.
Imagine the shooter surviving and getting a blood transfusion from homosexual donors
Imagine the shooter surviving and getting a blood transfusion from homosexual donors
i'd rather not thanks
My friend informed me that they had to stop taking blood because they were overwhelmed. The lines even in my town 45 min south were hurting traffic. I will update with a source if I can find it. Some of my friends down in Florida are already off and donating blood.
Ultra conservative Americans are probably super confused about this. On the one hand, it was possible Islamic terrorism, but on the other hand, a gay nightclub was attacked. Hopefully they get so confused about whether this is a good or bad thing to them that it knocks some sense into them.
Holy shit you are actually that disgustingly smug and self righteous enough to form this post. I knew there would be a fucking smug idiot to make this kind of post sooner or later and it doesn't irritate or disappoint me any less to see my prediction correct.
Unless the backlash from this results in family members potentially filing lawsuits against Reddit and the nightly news decrying the site I highly doubt that.
Alright I can take that back, but "Reddit moderators censor LGBT hate crime" is definitely worse than "Reddit users misjudge mass shooting motive"
Alright I can take that back, but "Reddit moderators censor LGBT hate crime" is definitely worse than "Reddit users misjudge mass shooting motive"
The only thing they're censoring is "FUCKIN MUZZIES GET OUT!!!!" dude what, do you think they're trying to cover this up completely or something? lol
Go look at the unreddit link and tell me that's what all the deleted posts look like.
My post was deleted for saying my thoughts were with the victims. Then I was banned.
"""""censorship""""" doesn't exist when it's a private corporation policing their own website anyway. Call me when the US Gov't is deleting posts on reddit
Unreddit is currently overloaded right now. Do you honestly think that every single deleted post was along the lines of
Of course not, but I also know the majority of comments were about politicizing the tragedy in regards to Islam and even more just about the censorship of the previous comments, not prayers for the victim like you made it seem.
These threads are good to follow the newest events, but once the person is caught/killed and people start posting their personal and political views and various accusations the best would be to close the thread, nothing good comes from it.
