Russia's been going down the shitter ever since Putin got put into office imo

Is this sarcastic? I'm not defending putins policies, but its certainly not been going down the shitter.
I've never understood atheist homophobia. I mean this ban is based on Russian orthodoxy, but the country is so atheist, it confuses me how those people can be against gay marriage.
I've never understood atheist homophobia.
Works like this, society looks down upon it so people don't want to look high of it otherwise they will be looked down upon. Social issues, I don't think people use their brains.
I know it's insane, but I can't quite shake the feeling Margaret Thatcher is behind this somehow.
the return of the soviet union
Except Lenin decriminalized homosexual laws.

10-15% is not what I would consider 'so atheist'.
A lot of this has to do with the russian cult of manliness. If you act any different than you're supposed to as a "real man", then you're worthless and have wasted your life.
there's a lack of progressive attitudes towards homosexuality across eastern europe

Yes, even more so than most people think. Not to the levels of lets say Africa, but it's pretty bad.
I don't care,their problem
It won't ever split up. The state is strong and well, nationalism and a huge history. Look what happened to Chechenya when they tried to leave the federation. Some of the conclusions or predictions people come up with here are crazy.
I agree with you.

Implying homosexuality is looked high upon in former Yugoslavia.

Lmao how is that even a fucking thing.

St. Petersburg
Dunno where you got those statistics from. But they're a little more complex than that.
Almost 70% claim to be believers yet only 10% attend the service. Which means an even bigger percentage are not religious enough to be vehemently against homosexuality. My guess is that people just find it disgusting, and nothing else.
Russians are too depressed and pessimistic for religion anyway.
Eastern Europe is basically like that. Almost everyone here describes themselves as Christian, but hardly anyone visits church or at all lives a Christian life. It's exactly as you describe it - people think it's "unhuman" and a sign of weakness to be gay - something to be ashamed from.
It's not a religious problem - it's a purely social one.
It is more of a social problem with older people, and here is why - USSR used to be strong, albeit not democratic at all country with high population.
Recent decline in birth rate alongside with economical issues make them hate gay people because in their opinion they should make more kids, essentially. For people with seven siblings seeing their kids or grandkids having one child already hurts, and when they don't have any, well, it provokes hostility.
It is a known fact, or, lets put it that way, at least a popular belief that Russian demographic situation is not improving, and when people there talk about China you can see that they are angry and envious, in a way.
So there is that point of view for you, people. Not saying that it is right or something, but understandable nonetheless.

that or they think it's a medical disorder.
Putin really is evil.
but I thought Putin liked the thought of all of Russia sucking his dick?
there's a lack of progressive attitudes towards homosexuality across eastern europe
people are built to resist change
that along with most judeo-christian religions abhorring homosexuality means that homosexuals will probably not be completely accepted worldwide for a few more decades
Sucks that America cant do anything about this country at this point. Talk dont work.
Putin really is evil.
Implying Putin = orthodox church.
The legislation being pushed by the Kremlin and the Russian Orthodox Church
"The Kremlin" is the government, i.e. Putin as well.
Well then nevermind. Touche, my bad reading skills.
The bill is part of an effort to promote traditional Russian values as opposed to Western liberalism, which the Kremlin and church see as corrupting Russian youth and by extension contributing to a wave of protest against President Vladimir Putin's rule.
Well, that doesn't sound authoritarian at all.
Perhaps its due time they have themselves another revolution?
Yeah, a revolution for homosexuality. As if that would get anywhere.
Fuck you Russian government, fuck you.
there's a lack of progressive attitudes towards homosexuality across eastern europe
As people don't have any guilt against them. Just like immigrants claiming slavery or mis-treatment, eastern europe tell them where they can take their guilt trip- back home/uk.
Yeah, a revolution for homosexuality. As if that would get anywhere.
It would.
