The New Terminator Series Has Been Cancelled Until Further Notice

Yeah, I really liked Genisys. Salvation was horrible in my opinion, the first two movies knew there was little to explore in post-apoc Terminator world, and so they only had short segments to show the fate. Salvation went full into this period, and suffered from it.
But Genisys was a return to form of the original Terminators, taking in stride what was good about the first two, and brought it into a deeper story.
Maybe I'm a sucker for old Arnold, but I loved Genisys.
Wait, what?
I mean, I haven't seen the new one yet but how in the hell does 300 million fucking dollars in pure box office profit lead anyone to this conclusion? That's not even accounting for the tens of millions that will come in sales and liscensing.
This kind of garbage risk assessment is what's strangling hollywood right now. When a tent-pole franchise is dropped before it even gets going, what reason do any up-and-coming screenwriters have to even try and get studios involved in their scripts?

I mean fuck just drop the no doubt near (if not over) 100 million dolllar advertising budget to begin with, it's so unnecessary in this day and age. The terminator series sells itself at this point.
Well for one thing that advertising budget is part of the reason why that "300 million fucking dollars in pure box office profit" is probably nonexistant in reality at the end of the day.
The second thing is that the reason they're 86ing this, and similarly why Sony 86ed Amazing Spider-man after AS2, is that while the returns might have been alright even with marketing, the reception by both critics and audiences to this movie is taken asa sign that the next movie is not going to open as well regardless of its quality.
And no the Terminator franchise does not "sell itself." The last movie in the franchise to make its money back domestically was T2 in 1991.

You dare even postulate such a thing! (you rite tho)
I really don't get why people get so up in arms about beloved series getting sequels. If you don't like the sequels then ignore them.
I seriously doubt that T1 and 2 will be less enjoyable or your memories of those films will somehow be spoiled by the existence of other movies in the series. I don't subscribe to the idea that good movies can be damaged by bad sequels.

Salvation was way to bright it needed to be dark and gray and use the same soundtrack during the flashback's in the 80's muisc

The problem is the sequels are often simply shit. You have great foundations, a already built universe and instead of building on it, they see it as a chance to milk more money out of fans.
Also people saying how Genysis was great because it returned to what made the originals so great should re-watch those a couple of times and educate themselves.
Wow, I loved genisys. Shame.

All the Terminator sequels effectively retcon T2's ending on top of being terrible movies overall. So yea, sequels can absolutely ruin a once great franchise if you do dumb shit like that.
