• Modern Warfare 2's Favela map removed for offensive religious imagery

He is not owed an apology. It's debatable that it's even worth patching. Take any other media. Hell, lets get specific. Disney hasn't offered public apologies for their artists hiding dicks and other shit in their movies. Why is Islam deserving of preferential treatment?
Are you fucking kidding me.
Also why does FP care, doesn't all of FP hate MW2?
It's the principle of it, really; even if MW2 was pretty terrible in my opinion, if Activision - of all people - just sorta bend over for angry muslim communities threatening boycotts (when they ignored the dedicated server boycotts, among other things), someone might get the idea that any company will basically submit to their wants for censorship or so forth. Yes, it's a minor thing, but with this happening, especially to a three-year-old game, it's a giant internet shitstorm and backlash that I can kinda agree with (in a not-so-extreme manner).
Activision having so much money is very offensive to my religion of Imustberich, I feel very offended adn it's not only me but millions of Hemustberichers too. I don't demand Activision to destroy all that money but I sincerely and in all love hope that Activision considers donating a billion or two to my church, I know money doesn't heal hurt feelings but I could do great good and spread the love with it.
Removing the map was a bit extreme, surely it's a quick fix?
It's not really removed. It's just been pulled from the rotations of the lobbies. The actual changes are coming soon apparently. Either way it's a retarded reason to patch the game unless they are also fixing other bugs that it's bound to have at the same time. If it's just this one "fix", then the update is pretty damn useless and really shouldn't be happening. Bowing to pressure from religious groups is kind of retarded considering the game (and any game really) wasn't designed with actually offending anyone in mind and isn't an attack on their belief. But I guess ever since that shit-awful "movie", Islamic groups feel like they actually have power over the west, and our media are worried about accidentally inciting more rioting and bloodshed (well, except news channels who can monetize it).

[editline]8th October 2012[/editline] Holy shit, what if I say I'm a Muslim and I'm offended by death streaks. I wonder if I could get those removed.
i'm a white dude so I'm not offended by a lot but if someone says something I don't like in a video game/book/real life I don't shit my pants and cry for my mother
It could be an overreaction to a troll for all we know. I'm pretty sure whoever made that texture isn't at infinity ward anymore after all the shit that's happened there, so it's not like they can ask the guy what the blurry lines are supposed to spell.
I don't even know how the hell did they pull this off. I mean, the guy had to go into that precise place, look at that precise picture, and somehow look at the frame and find that jiberish to be actual islamic text or whatever. It's the most random thing to do. It's like grabbing a picture, putting it under a microscope, and after many amplifications, finding that guy with the ukelele. It sounds more like a troll. And it makes me mad how some mad idiots from the other side of the world can actually boss people around with such bullshit. Right now, I even feel like installing MW2 to see if favela is still there, and if it isn't, making a video telling them to fuck off and telling IW to put the map back, even though I wouldn't even play it.
I guess it's better to remove it than risk being bombed
Removing the map was a bit extreme, surely it's a quick fix? Also I don't really understand why everyone is so angry in the thread. The writing about Muhammad on the frame of the painting isn't allowed in the bathroom according to Muslim religion. All I could see for pages and pages were people thinking that it was the tree somehow.
I don't miss the removal of the content myself, but I'm guessing because it appears as trivial. Other religions received more offensive content (even to the point where important deities are killed) and there weren't nationwide complaints over it.
Maybe it's because they didn't complain about it? Why's it so surprising that people got upset over something they view as offensive? Activision/Infinity Ward didn't have to do anything at all (not like people were threatening them, they just wanted a small change made for sake of respect), but they decided to anyway. It's not like there's a debate here or anything, it's literally "X got upset, Y apologized and tried to fix it."
I'm offended that they took it down.
Can anyone who reads Arabic actually confirm that's what it says on the frame?
Even if it is, I doubt that it was intentional. It looked like a picture frame at first glance. Infinity Ward is composed of western developers so they probably weren't aware of it.
Seriously though. If we have anyone on here that understands Islam at all or if we have any Islamic Facepunchers, How the fuck could a small picture of a tree in a field be considered offensive? Are we sure this isn't just one gigantic sarcastic joke to see how these guys could push the limits, or something?

You aren't entitled to live in a world that caters to your every whim.
Political Correctness still going on. What a shame.

But I don't think that it was done with ill-intent as the video author claimed.

It's about the writing on the painting/being above the toilet, it has nothing to do with the picture itself. [editline]8th October 2012[/editline]
So someone's offended. So... it's offensive to Islam to have paintings in the bathroom? I am so confused right now.
So... it's offensive to Islam to have paintings in the bathroom? I am so confused right now.
The picture's frame has Islamic text along the border that allegedly mentions Allah, and having such a thing in one's bathroom is outlawed by the Islamist religion.

Religious text on a frame in a bathroom is offensive? I don't recall that in the Koran. I mean granted I read the English version, which is not officially recognized, and it has been a few years but I still don't recall putting stuff in bathrooms as being offensive. Especially given the general lack of indoor plumbing in the era it was written.

I dont really see the problem here. Guy thought it was disrespectful, and IW or whatever made MW2, are fixing it. I thought it was kinda nice of them to be respectful towards their religion and fix the problem. ITT Everyone is fucking mad because IW fixed a thing in the game because some people found it disrespectful.
Ha wow didn't even think about that. Its not like they had toilets back then.
I can see indoor baths and such existing, as they did in other regions around the same era, but I can't really see those as being terribly offensive. Especially given the close ties with cleanliness in the religion. That leaves us with outdoor bathrooms like outhouses or simple pits. Neither of which I really see as being at risk of being draped in religious text. Although apparently speaking basically anything related to the religion is also offensive while in a bathroom. They willingly associate themselves with the faction and need to eat a big bowl of deal with it when it comes to encountering offensive things.
Although apparently speaking basically anything related to the religion is also offensive while in a bathroom.
For all I know, I could be completely wrong; maybe just the text itself is considered offensive somehow. The bathroom thing was something I heard mentioned as a cause, but it could very well just be a jumped conclusion.

Look it up, Muslims apparently can't even do the Dhikr in the bathroom. Which is news to me, because I'm pretty sure I've seen it happen on several occasions.
Uhh...tweak the map instead??
They're going to remove the picture and put the map back, apparently.
