Is every social website a hive mind to Facepunch? Tumblr, Twitter, Something Awful, basically everyone but us.
(obligatory "Facepunch is not a hivemind.")

Anytime there is a large group of people that are communicating with each other, they act like this. Because that's how people act.
No, we're a bit hiveminded as well. I discovered that several times by getting showered in boxes.
They want to change it to the Blueskins, right? If you wanna change your team colors there are probably better ways to go about it.
That'd be perfect if they had full body/face paint so they could be smurfs
I'm Native and while the name itself has never bothered me in the slightest what it stands for sort of does. People are racist as fuck towards Native people all the time and don't even realize it. I don't think it's intentional in most cases, and that it mostly just falls on a lack of education concerning that part of history or our (Native) history in general. They assume we don't exist anymore or something and so much of our culture has been appropriated, twisted, and/or bastardized, meaning we seemingly exist as nothing but a stereotype in most people's minds.
I am sure things will get better eventually and like I said it never bothered me all that much to begin with but even in this current social justice zeitgeist that seems to have taken over the Internet Native people never really seem to be in the discussion. Fat people, trans people, "people of color" (I really hate that term, it sounds more racist to me than actual racial slurs), and feminism are all at the forefront, but I think there's room for a serious dialogue that needs to be built on both sides concerning Native people today. It's kind of ridiculous that even in this hyper-PC society we have now in 2014 we still have the stuff like the Washington Redskins roaming around and Columbus Day (AKA "Exterminate Indigenous Peoples Day") is a national holiday. I don't think black people would like it if MLK Day was James Earl Ray Day, no? I mean, it's not like people even have some attachment to that silly ass Columbus Day to begin with so there's no reason for it not to be changed. Watch some people suddenly pretend to give a shit about it as soon as they make moves to change it, though. Columbus Day is a tradition!
They're all dead anyway.
Oooh, I'm a spooky ghost! :v:
I never understood the hatred toward Columbus Day. Columbus himself didn't really do much toward the deaths of Amerindians (while he did contribute a little, it was barely a breath of fire that spread later) and if it's because it represents Europeans coming over to the Americas, well, that was bound to happen eventually; it was inevitable.

I'm not quite sure that's racism at all, just really bad ignorance. To me at least, racism involves a sense of aggression and superiority toward a specific group. If they're not intentionally aggressive and believing them superior, such in the case of a football team named Redskins, then I wouldn't attribute it to racism, just ignorance at the most, insensitivity at the worse.

you realize the current poc movement includes the bringing of equality for all races(that includes native americans) right
america is an absolutely incredible country
If it started as a term of solidarity then it would still be cultural appropriation for a million dollar football franchise owned by non-native americans to use it.
Is there anything really wrong with cultural appropriation anyways?

Depends if it's in bad taste or not probably, can't explain it

There is when somebody pretends that appropriating a slur is some kind of act of "admiration" and "respect". If someone wants to show their "admiration" for a race of people (which is some weird positive racist bullshit like saying asian people are good at math) they can go to a Native American history museum or donate to a charity that helps them or something. Turning a race of people into your team's mascot and using a racial slur as your team's name isn't appropriate no matter how you spin it.

It's gross as hell and the name is going to change eventually; it just shows how oblivious Dan Snyder and the rest of it's owners are that they're digging in their heels for a fight that's never going to go away.

Ah ok. I thought you were referring to other things when it came to cultural appropriation. Generally I see it in the wider sense as being something that changes cultures over time and creates new interesting things.

but that's not what appropriation means at all?
