but there is a failure on FP and probably most of the UK's part in trying to understand why it is happening. "people suck and want to break shit" isn't a good reason.
There is a reason. The peaceful protest about that man getting shot got out of hand. People saw that the rioting was handled badly by the police because they didn't have enough resources and didn't expect it (though i am in no way blaming this on the police, they did the best they could with what they had). People in other cities saw that it was possible to just go out and fuck shit up, so they did. In my opinion the best way to stop this from happening again is to prove as quickly as possible that there are consequences and you can't just go and take shit. but that is easier said than done.
respect has to be earned, if they don't respect the authorities that means the authorities are doing something wrong. you can't reason with or change a group of rioters.
Because they know the police can't do much to stop them, so they just loot what they want without much possibility of facing consequences (or so they would believe any way)
In my opinion the best way to stop this from happening again is to prove as quickly as possible that there are consequences and you can't just go and take shit.
no that's a stupid way. the best way to stop this from happening is legitimately try and fix the situation so people won't need to riot.
lol no one's happy existing on benefits. your ego is clouding your memory mr. "laugh at my student loan repayments"
Do you live in a street full of them? Actually you are partly right, "happy" is the wrong word.
lol no one's happy existing on benefits. your ego is clouding your memory mr. "laugh at my student loan repayments"
Sorry but unless you have lived in the UK and seen it first hand, you can't say that. I can with complete certainty say that you are absolutely wrong, and that many people do by choice live entirely on benefits.
Do you live in a street full of them?
till the age of 18 i was extremely poor and lived in england with my mum. no-one's happy living on benefits. i stole and i certainty wasn't happy doing so.
Word is on Facebook that there's going to be riots tonight in my town of Blackburn...fucking hell...
but there is a failure on FP and probably most of the UK's part in trying to understand why it is happening. "people suck and want to break shit" isn't a good reason.
You are not British therefore you don't understand how Chavs work. Edit: Oh you are, but how long ago was this?
I feel like we've come to a conclusion. I'd like to say thank you for the debate and that I hope none of it was taken to heart. I've learned a bit today and I hope I've taught you all some as well. Let's hope for the best with the riots.
Sorry but unless you have lived in the UK and seen it first hand
i've experienced it first hand excuse me. people aren't happy to live on benefits. most of the time you don't even really get that much.
Sorry but unless you have lived in the UK and seen it first hand, you can't say that. I can with complete certainty say that you are absolutely wrong, and that many people do by choice live entirely on benefits.
Agreed. I've heard cases of people bragging about how much they're taking from the system. Some people are in fact better of on benefits than if they were in work. Of course some people will be happy to do nothing and get paid for it.
till the age of 18 i was extremely poor and lived in england with my mum. no-one's happy living on benefits. i stole and i certainty wasn't happy doing so.
Ok, so you lived in England and weren't happy on benefits yourself, but people do sponge. You weren't happy with it, but thousands of people are content with it. It's a problem also because so many people who get job seekers are employable by hardly anybody, because their attitude is wrong and they look rough as hell. I expect a lot of people blame the system because they can't get a job, but in fact aren't helping themselves. Don't get me wrong though, there is a huge unemployment problem and the majority of unemployed will be legitimately trying to get a job, doing their best.
You are not British therefore you don't understand how Chavs work.
i bet you i'm more british than you. and it's easy to stereotype people as chavs. it's harder to do some decent intellectual though and try to figure out why they exist.
Word is on Facebook that there's going to be riots tonight in my town of Blackburn...fucking hell...
Well, there goes this weekend's Premier League games. fuck you rioting cunts
Ok, so you lived in England and weren't happy on benefits yourself, but people do sponge. You weren't happy with it, but hundreds of people are content with it.
scrapping by and being glad you are alive isn't the same as being content. you are really starting to sound like someone too posh to know what being poor is like.
I agree that there are plenty of people in those riots doing it because they can get consequence-free looting/vandalism and because they think it's fun. But they are pushed into that mindset.. people who are brought up in crappy houses in a crappy area who have crappy jobs and no money, who have crappy upbringings with no real role models... these people know nothing else. There's no reason for them to respect other people or their belongings, because they've never been taught otherwise, and what little hope they do have is being taken away (thiings like EMA, where poor people were paid to stay in school after 16, so they could afford to learn instead of have to get a job straight off). The violence and deaths are bad, and clearly those responsible need to be held accountable, but the punishments for a lot of the minor vandalism needs to be reformatory rather than punitive. If we don't fix the growing cultural and economic gaps between the lower and upper classes, these riots are going to keep happening at sporadic times over and over again. At the moment the Government just says "these are mindless thugs" and aims to just criminalise them even more and push them even lower in society. The real solution can only come when thhe Government goes "ok, so this violence is bad, and we'll punish them, but we also need to look at what's forced them into this situation where they literally don't care about consequences or freedoms and they're willing to be locked up". Instead of pushing these people even lower in society and making them riot more, we need to lift them up instead so they don't need/want to riot. Then, those that continue to riot, we know are the real mindless thugs.
scrapping by and being glad you are alive isn't the same as being content. you are really starting to sound like someone too posh to know what being poor is like.
But the rioters burned down half the job centers...
how many smiths albums do you own? quick, how much chucklevision in total have you watched? who was the best doctor?
Exhibit A: Extract from a British citizenship exam :v:
But he is making the point alot of people are happy to do fuck all and get paid for it. They may not be able to buy the luxaries people who have jobs can buy, but they are getting away with doing fuck all. They are leeches on the taxpayer and those with jobs and the governemnt should scrutinize who its money is going to in closer detail. Oh, and don't play the "Jobs are hard to get card". I have two jobs. I work on a rifle range and in a pub. It wasn't too hard to get these jobs. I just perservered when a potential employer didn't call me back. Half of these people just can't be bothered to get work or sabotage themselves by going to a formal interview in trakkies.
no that's a stupid way. the best way to stop this from happening is legitimately try and fix the situation so people won't need to riot.
The situation is that they think that they can get away with it. You and I have the same solution.
Well, there goes this weekend's Premier League games. fuck you rioting cunts
Yeah apparantly shits "gunna go down" here.

The schools they go to suck. They don't learn much, and they don't have the proper advice necessary to help them realise that trakkies make them look like complete idiots. It's a complete social black-hole. People outcast them because they're so crap, but in reality those who want to get out of it, don't have the support to do so as they're brought up by idiots and not taught properly in schools. I know there are exceptions and many are happy to leech, but there are a huge number who would love more than they have, and they need a proper support structure to take them out of the lifestyle they're born into, where violence/benefits/theft are the norm.
how many smiths albums do you own? quick, how much chucklevision in total have you watched? who was the best doctor?
1: I've got The queen is dead, greatest hits, Meat is murder and Louder Than Bombs. 2: Chucklevision is great, I love the brothers. I have watched them through my childhood. 3: I'm not sure on the best doctor. Probably Tom Baker :) Edit: How does this make me British? I know Americans that watch Doctor Who, listen to The Smiths and watch/ed Chucklevision
First rioter in London court today was a 31yr SCHOOL TEACHER. Pleaded guilty to looting Richer Sounds in Croydon. Says everything about UK
No it doesn't, it says that a 31 year old school teacher was upset enough to start rioting possibly over spending cuts.
now you see i've got all the smiths albums so yeah
Ah, that explains why you're so argumentative and think you know everything.
now you see i've got all the smiths albums so yeah
Does that make you more British than a resident of the UK. Get out...
