Does that make you more British than a resident of the UK.
Get out...
jokes on you i'm already out of the country.
but soon i'll return and inflict rhetorical trauma on the streets of london
bigmouth strikes again
I'm sure you're just making a joke when you talk about being british based on how many smiths albums you own and how many episodes of a kids t.v show you've watched but I think you've sort of misjudged the mood over here.
they aren't happy to do it, it's more you take what you get. if you can get a bit of money without having to work you do it and anyone in that situation would do it.
i don't know how much you work at the pub or the rifle range but can you feed a family with that job?
I get benefits and also have a part time job. If I did no work, I'd get more benefits overall. You're right in that it's quite a bit easier to live off of benefits.

oh please if anything making light of a serious situation is more british than anything.
the whole situation is bizarre and surreal, makes me miss monty python.
there's no use burning yourself over a situation like this.

So then you can see how serious all this is if someone joking around isn't going down too well

:suicide:
If this actually had a cause that could be fixed by the government, where are the spokespeople for the rioters or the peaceful protesters who want the same thing but don't want to trash shit? The riots have been going on for 4 days and no one has stood up and said why they are rioting and what they want to prove or get out of it. This is nothing more than a disorganised mob of opportunist criminals.
Sure the government could improve benefits and education, but with what money? If you take it from somewhere else, it just gives other people a reason to protest and that just gives these people another chance to go grab a new pair of shoes in chaos.
Does anyone know what happened to that facepuncher who was in manchester during the riots? The ones name began with Zeph or something?
So then you can see how serious all this is if someone joking around isn't going down too well
well i just hope all of you are okay over there.
i get quite a bit homesick over england sometimes and i worry the country will burn down while i'm gone.
i just hope the government can stop dicking around and really pull together and stop the riots.

Except that if you claim for too long without getting a job they cut you off
It's okay guys my Gran knows what's really to blame for all this; black people and Blackberry Messenger. This is what old Daily Mail readers actually believe.

But in all seriousness, it's not the time to start arguing over what smith albums I own... Has anything happened in the riots this morning?

Nope, nothing of note happens during the day, they all come out at night.
are perfectly happy existing on benefits.
Why don't YOU try living on £53 pound a week, you also have to pay your bills and pay for food and clothes.
You will also be hounded by private employment agencies who do not care about getting getting you a job and treat you like you are sub human, you will also Be forced to do unpaid work for private companies who just use you for free labor and don't employ you afterwards.
And so what if people only live day by day? that's how MOST people live, working class people and the unemployed are more concerned about getting food on the table than Furthering there education, mainly because they cannot afford it.
The unemployed have always been demonized by the likes of people like you and the media, and i'm getting sick of it.

He didn't say that every unemployed person living on benefits enjoys it. Judging by the age of the rioters i think it is fair to say that a lot of them still live at home and may not even think about how difficult it is to live on such little money while their parents struggle to support them.

If it's that bad then better yourself and work yourself out of poverty. There are lots of opportunities to get funding to attend college in order obtain basic skills and qualifications, apprenticeships and loads of other ways you can get into work if you don't necessarily have the best qualifications. You just need to be motivated to do so, a lot of people aren't.

It's easy to say that, but it is a lot of hardwork and you can't claim unemployment benefits while doing a full time college course. It's even harder now that the tories have removed EMA and are removing ALG at the end of the next academic year. That said, it isn't impossible.
Are the riots still going on? Or has everything started to quieten down?
Are the riots still going on? Or has everything started to quieten down?
It has calmed down because it is daytime. Who knows how bad it will be tonight.

Quite simply, there are some token opportunities for disadvantaged people, but nowhere near enough for all of them, so some get out of the situation while the majority (motivated or not), naturally don't as there aren't enough positions for them. The Govt have removed incentives for poor people to stay in education after 16, which basically rules them out of any non-service/trade based job.
Which means in the long run, their children are likely to be brought up in the same vein. It's a vicious circle, and it needs people like us who are out of it to realise it before anything can change. The "people on benefits are all 100% scroungers" attitude needs to adjust to "some people on benefits are scroungers, but it's better that we just let that slide and make a genuine attempt to help those on benefits who want to actually make something of themselves."
Also, as someone who used to be on benefits but is now in a well paid city job in London, I can tell you being on benefits is no fun at all. The amount of money you get leads you to literally be counting up pennies at the supermarket, having to put single apples back, buying 3 instead of 4. It sucks.

I'd hate to have to live on benefits. But I reckon that about 50% of the people in my street exist entirely on benefits and shoplifting. Somehow they manage and they do seem pretty content with life. Would they like a job if they could get one? I seriously doubt it. They are basically children that have got older without growing up.
Also I'm not talking about the working class (I'm working class), I'm talking about the underclass.

The problem is, with the current job market and the kind of job they are qualified for its unlikely they will earn significantly more than if they just stay on benefits. A lot of them don't have the right mindset and think that if they can get it for nothing there is no point in getting a job and they don't see any benefits of being employed past financial gain.

It is possible to live on benefits. Didn't they do a programme a while back where they dropped some celebrities in the city, with just Jobseeker's Allowance to live on, making them get a job to support themselves? As I recall, Larry Lamb didn't bother jobhunting and just budgeted his money well enough that he could live off it. Then the producers got pissed off because he was doing it wrong.

I doubt they are really content with living life like that, me and my pal preferred it when when we had our jobs.
Also I'm not talking about the working class (I'm working class), I'm talking about the underclass.
But the unemployed are a part of the working class in my opinion, seeing as you could lose your job at any moment in this economy, and the unemployed live in working class neighborhoods, being working class in the uk has more to do then having a job or not due to the class system.
