From watching lots of interviews, the average rioter doesn't actually seem to not be able to buy this kind of stuff like clothes and Ipods normally they just take it "because it's free innit".
How many cities has the riots hit? I don't want it spreading to my town. We got a bad enough crime rate as it is.
Those involved will lose their council house
1746:
Greenwich Council also says it will be seeking the eviction of council tenants if they are found to have been engaged in criminal activities.

I think it's the 4th.
Last night was the 4th night, if it goes on tonight it will be the 5th.
Hm, are there any charities to help the victims like the guy up above?

I dunno how up to date it is, but that shows all of the recorded incidents apparently.

Everyone should read this article on the guardian website... It's about the psychology of rioters and it addresses why they looted the shops they did yet left other shops etc. It's the best piece of journalism I have seen in years.

Well at least this shows the police are doing something
Under the Riot (Damages) Act of 1886 insurers and those uninsured can claim from the Police to cover costs, which is estimated at over £100,000,000 which because of the cuts, the police are going to struggle to pay
Gotta love these Youtube commenters. Police beat up a rioter, "FUCKING SUBHUMAN FASCIST GOVERNMENT RUSSIA RIGHT WING OMG", Rioters smash up several properties, burn several shops, attack people, "VICTIMS OF SOCIETY, POVERTY AREA NOT THEIR FAULT"

I've been seeing the opposite, dunno where you've been looking.
Almost every comment I've seen has been pro-police force.
Two people in Manchester sentenced to 10 and 16 weeks in prison over the rioting.
"The first of many."
The BBC have posted an article about the axing of benefits e-petition, and now the e-petition site has crashed

The petition's probably going to pass the threshold for Parliament, I hope the MPs all say lol no
[editline]10th August 2011[/editline]
Taking away their benefits would presumably require new legislation, I'm just guessing. Unlikely that they would be that bothered

It's punctuated by the occasional psuedo-intellectual spouting the same predictable stuff.

Taking away their benefits would make them riot again.

Managed to get to it just minutes ago.
79,519 signatures.
Yesterday it was <10,000
When it hits 100,000 it goes to parliament right?
When it hits 100,000 it goes to parliament right?
It will get discussed, and hopefully laughed at.

Wow that'll sure show people not to fuck with the police.
Herd up the lot of 'em and blow them the FORK away!
haha about 10 people tried to smash up and steal things in my city centre, they broke like one window before they were chased out by the police
i was only in charing cross today but there were no riots at the mitchell library in glasgow
[editline]10th August 2011[/editline]
i can confirm
So why are people rioting? Is this primarily linked to the under/working class, I've heard of comparisons of "class-warfare"? I understand it's most likely a culmination of things, I just want to know of the reasons and justifications people have for the rioting.
I know it sparked from the death, but I'm assuming that acted as a catalyst.
All this over a SINGLE STUPID DEATH?
True, it was unfair and harsh. But they get riled up over a death so much that the details get lost.
Raul Moat, Egypt, Everywhere is full of riling up.
I just want them to grow a pair and accept that the punishment will be handled by the government. They're ruining our lives because of the death of a single person! Emotional Instability over just ONE person. It was not cruelty, nor the government. IT WAS A MISTAKE.
As for benefits, why don't we just get a system in place where you must do some kind of work that suits your problem (EX: Painful Legs:Computing/Business at home). There would be a slightly higher income generated from the work, but you MUST be shown as in need of it.

A working class black man got shot by police and people sarted protesting about it. Everyone jumped on the bandwagon and start rioting all over the country just so they could loot shops and cause trouble "because the government can't stop us, to get our taxes back init" (even though a large number of the rioters are probably living on benefits and haven't paid taxes in their life). Middle class people who mostly disapprove of the rioting claim it's just because the working class people are uneducated idiots, other people claim the middle class people are snobs and don't take time to understand the real reasons. I think it's "free stuff!"
Jesus christ, every fifth post is this
Kinda says a lot about the entire thing really. There is no reason for the riots anymore, it's rioting for either the sake of rioting, or because people want free stuff. The original reason for the protests is long dead.
1920: In a further Libyan response to unrest in the UK, Libya's official news agency Jana has published a report urging the UN to protect British "protesters" from "repression".
Can't tell if serious
Can't tell if serious
Wow, Libya sure are taking this seriously.
