This one's my favorite: Damn someone send those to Fox news.
I still don't see why they couldn't have just brought in water cannons that fire coloured water/dye. That way the next morning, the police can wake up and just waltz around arresting anyone that they painted red/blue/whatever colour

Anything new?
68 year old who was set upon in the riots has died in hospital. http://news.sky.com/home/uk-news/article/16048571
I heard some stuff about the riots being instigated by Crime organizations that went around robbing placs and using the rioters to cover their tracks by burning down the places they robbed
I am a bit confused by the riots and all the media stuff that everyone's broadcasting. So, the riots are they justified or are there only some fucking punks who think they can torch down places and cause some damage? At first I though it was about the students having to pay for something, could anyone enlighten me?

The police handling of it wasn't great either according to lots of news sources excluding the Daily Mail. They had absolutely nothing to do with this. These riots were caused by people realising that they could get away with murder (in some cases literally). A man in Tottenham, North London was shot by police who accused him of being armed, which he was. Peaceful protests started the next day because his family protested his innocence. However, at night riots started, people were looting from shops. Since then, it's spread like a mental contagion. People 200 miles away started doing it too. When asked why many said that it was to get back at the rich people and whoever was in "da government". If you ask me, it's completely mindless and there is no rhyme nor reason for them doing it.

And a few copycat riots as well (which mostly got crushed pretty quickly)
There was a protest that was justified, but the riot that happened afterwards was using it as an excuse to steal stuff
or that.

You're lucky it was lower, that's around $14,000 CAD, that's pretty par for university costs here, and university in the States I've heard is average $40,000/year.

Being downright lied to by someone just to get votes is outrageous. That and the fact that once upon a time it was free to go to uni. I don't see how raising the amount of money students have to pay is any good, they're some of the poorest people in England.

I hope no one posted this or made this joke yet.
Who was it who said that originally, I can't remember.
Deus EX opening.
Deus EX opening.
Oh, right.

Those douchebags better stay away from Clacton on sea

But I do remember him saying something about it even when the coalition was formed, and he was definite about it rather than "we'll try" or "we'll oppose a raise in fees", which was a bit dumb of him. As for raising the fees themselves, I can understand the need to make cuts (living above our means and ending up in a financial shithole doesn't much appeal to me) but education doesn't seem to be the best place to do that.
Justified protest*
Right.
Justified protest*
yeah there was no "justified riot" - at no stage was breaking into whitegoods stores and assaulting passers-by in anyway justified.
Yeah that e-petition will never get through. A vast amount of the people who did the looting recieve benefit payments as their only source of money, taking it away from them just means that the poor become poorer and then riots may start up because they haven't got money for food. This is what happens when the money you get off the jobseekers allowance (unemployed) is more than the minimum wage. Which is why I know quite a few unemployed people. Why work when you get more money for being unemployed?
Right.
Actually, the family of the person that was shot went on a quiet protest outside the local police station. Then his gang decided to go fuck everything up.
So the death toll will probably end at 4. Its nice that the father of some of the guys killed in Birmingham just called for peace and calm. That very well could have turned nasty. Talk of racial rifts and what not.
