Either it's some kind of perverse desire to irritate people by saying "THEM'S THE FACTS AND YOU CAN'T DENY THEM" (I have to admit I'm guilty of doing the same thing sometimes in different situations) or subtle or subconscious racist attitudes
The thing is, if you knew it wasn't a factor, why would you even bother pointing it out?
Because we can? It's different when you say it with people I know. If I was writing a newspaper article I wouldn't mention it because it's irrelevant but when you're discussing it why does it matter if someone mentions it or not? As long as they don't use it in an abusive or hurtful way what harm does it cause.
The thing is, if you knew it wasn't a factor, why would you even bother pointing it out?
Because we aren't having an inquiry, we're just talking.
intercepted by three fucking people
In england pretty much everyone accepts themselves on equal with other cultures because it's what we grow up with.
"pretty much everyone" Yeah, no I don't think so.
and two more that's fucking awesome, I got ninja'd by three people, then two, then one guy this is going down in the annals, folks
"pretty much everyone" Yeah, no I don't think so.
Really? How so?
"pretty much everyone" Yeah, no I don't think so.
"I don't think so" Nice rebuttal
Probably because it was coming out of the 80's. Isn't America a very racist place? I always hear stories about the south.
Certain areas in the South are pretty racist, but to say that America is very racist would be incorrect. San Francisco for example is very multicultural.
Probably because it was coming out of the 80's. Isn't America a very racist place? I always hear stories about the south.
The south I've heard stories about too, but the north and in Canada everyone is either privately or jokingly racist, meaning most people never openly says something racist to a minority unless both sides know it's a joke and not to be taken seriously.
Really? How so?
Really, you're going to stand by your quote of "pretty much everyone in England accepts every other culture"? Surely you're joking.
Probably because it was coming out of the 80's. Isn't America a very racist place? I always hear stories about the south.
yes i went straight from poverty and racism in the UK to poverty and racism in the US but at least in san francisco i can walk by without having people bash in windows of shops belonging to pakistani people. or having supermarkets kick out teenagers because they happen to not be white. happened to me once i was in a supermarket with a black friend and he got kicked out for "looking suspicious" while i was white and had a hoodie on.
Wait are we discussing the certain race populations of London?
Certain areas in the South are pretty racist, but to say that America is very racist would be incorrect. San Francisco for example is very multicultural.
Ok, like every other country in the world there are both racist and non-racist people living in it.
yes i went straight from poverty and racism in the UK to poverty and racism in the US but at least in san francisco i can walk by without having people bash in windows of shops belonging to pakistani people.
That doesn't happen so much now, at least not because the owners are pakistani.
Really, you're going to stand by your quote of "pretty much everyone in England accepts every other culture"? Surely you're joking.
Yeah I think so. I think you're going to look at those select few groups with racist opinions and use that against me but I don't know a single proper racist person unless you count my Grandad who is a member of the BNP.
i went straight from poverty and racism in the UK to poverty and racism in the US but at least in san francisco i can walk by without having people bash in windows of shops belonging t pakistani people.
When did you immigrate out of Britain?
Generally when people post information based on statistics they don't just do it for the sake of doing it. They usually do it to make some kind of point, no matter how subtle.
Bit offtopic http://bjs.ojp.usdoj.gov/content/glance/tables/reportingracetab.cfm Keeping in mind that Blacks represent 12,6% of the USA population. Does this now make me racist? Do i have some hidden point i am making? As far as i know i don't have, just linking statistics. Just to point out, number 2 on my "greatest humans in this world" is actually black, Neil deGrasse Tyson. Sorry, but no one can beat James Randi.
Yeah I think so. I think you're going to look at those select few groups with racist opinions and use that against me but I don't know a single proper racist person unless you count my Grandad who is a member of the BNP.
Okay, 2 things: 1. Explain to me what a "proper racist" is. 2. "I don't know any racists" does not translate to "pretty much everyone in England isn't racist".
When did you immigrate out of Britain?
2002, 2001? i don't remember exactly because my memory is swiss cheese but it was after 9/11.
Does this now make racist? Do i have some hidden point i am making?
no because it's in a different context. people in this thread do not have the nicest words to say about rioters.
Okay, 2 things: 1. Explain to me what a "proper racist" is. 2. "I don't know any racists" does not translate to "pretty much everyone in England isn't racist".
1. Someone who openly is derogatory to someone merely on the colour of their skin. 2. I know but unless you pull some magic number out of your arse I doubt you have anything better to say otherwise, other than speculation of course :v:
So tell me then, what was your point in posting that statistic?
This:
Generally when people post information based on statistics they don't just do it for the sake of doing it. They usually do it to make some kind of point, no matter how subtle.
Only reason i posted it was to show that i can post statistic without having hidden agenda, so there you go. Simply because when people post statistics to back them up, that doesn't mean they had hidden point to it.
1. Someone who openly is derogatory to someone merely on the colour of their skin. 2. I know but unless you pull some magic number out of your arse I doubt you have anything better to say otherwise, other than speculation of course :v:
The fact that there is a racist political party like the BNP with any kind of prominence says otherwise. [editline]13th August 2011[/editline]
Only reason i posted it was to show that i can post statistic without having hidden agenda, so there you go. Simply because when people post statistics to back them up, that doesn't mean they had hidden point to it.
I have no problem with someone backing up the statement "the majority of x group are y race" with statistics. What I am wondering is what the purpose of saying the initial statement is in the first place.
supposedly during the general election 563,743 people voted for the BNP. so uh just putting that out there
The fact that there is a racist political party like the BNP with any kind of prominence says otherwise.
Which won 1.9% of the votes in the last elections. They are a laughing stock to the common folk of Britland. [editline]14th August 2011[/editline] And just because they exist doesn't isn't really a counter argument for my statement.
supposedly during the general election 563,743 people voted for the BNP. so uh just putting that out there
It was more of a protest vote, people were pissed at the government. I believe they've lost votes recently like their control in London areas.
Uh, no actually, Whites are about ~70% of the population in London, so I highly doubt that the majority of "youths" are Black.
And the ~30% of people in London who are not white seem to live in the same area, leading to a situation like icemaz describes where black people are the majority.

And just because they exist doesn't isn't really a counter argument for my statement.
"pretty much everyone in England is accepting of other cultures" "racist political party gets more than 100,000 votes" Do explain to me how this is not indicative of something. [editline]13th August 2011[/editline]
It was more of a protest vote, people were pissed at the government. I believe they've lost votes recently like their control in London areas.
Out of 563,743 votes, at least a good number had to have been legitimate.
