September 2010 news article: First paragraph of the article: "The home secretary, Theresa May, has dismissed fears that deep spending cuts could undermine the ability of the police to tackle possible civil unrest, and insisted the British did not respond to austerity by rioting on the streets."
I think at this stage hurt pride is a small factor, i'm sure the Brits have a army public order unit. I seen them plenty of times as a kid in the north.
I would assume they have have some sort of public order training anyway, I assume they have had to do that in Afghanistan / Iraq over the last few years. Although I am rather against the idea of the military acting as police, this BSG quote sums it up IMO.
There's a reason you separate military and the police. One fights the enemies of the state, the other serves and protects the people. When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the state tend to become the people.
However I think this might be one of the situations where they really are needed.
Liverpool. Yes I can confirm this to be true.
Ahh fuck sake. I'm near Liverpool, hopefully the sort this out quick.
[b] Just received word it's started in Liverpool from a friend: it's just started they're going fucking mental Bus on fire tescos being raided. And there setting loads of shit on fire. It's all over facebook mate with pictures http://yfrog.com/h6l9qlgj Anyone confirm?
Ahh fuck sake. I'm near Liverpool, hopefully the sort this out quick.
I'm only joking, I have no idea if it's true. But the guy who posted that photo claims to be with BBC Radio so I guess it's legit.
Even the reporters are in disguse so they don't get mugged etc. Putting these people in jail is too good and costly... Unless we charge them damage and then charge them hotel rates for prison!
and waste more tax payer money after a lengthy court battle where their scumbad lawyer gets them less time in jail. These people ar behaving like animals, i say treat them that way.
No, they are humans, and this is a civilized society. If they've committed a crime, they should be processed properly.
lol the #1 twitter trend is #prayforlondon what the fuck
they really should call on the army for help. obviously don't send them in armed, but i'm fairly certain british soldiers get training in crowd control. yeah they are
Liverpool. Yes I can confirm this to be true.
Fuck, has it? I'm in Bootle. Wish me luck tonight, FP.
Someone in Peckham has said that there are groups of kids out on the streets, no looting yet but its definetly high tension.

There's near enough no chance the army are going to be called in. England rioters suck, by tomorrow they'll have gotten bored and go home and people can start cleaning up- There's not enough police to do anything productive so it's just about damage control until everyone gives up.
No, they are humans, and this is a civilized society. If they've committed a crime, they should be processed properly.
They've broken the social contract. String them up.
Theres just no room in our jails anymore.
The current BBC reporter is running backwards and forwards to report at the moment. Reporting via a mobile phone must be hard as fuck. Although if its a modern phone the ability to take photos and email them instantly is really helpful I bet.
How far do you think this will reach?
Helium canisters in a building that's on fire, nice going idiots.
Why are normal good people not going out and beating the shit out of these rioters/looters? There'smore normal people than these dicks and we would all go and help out the police if we were nearby.
So are you really going to go out and start assaulting people when they're rioting and looting?
They've broken the social contract. String them up.
There is no such contract. No matter what they do within this time they will receive jail time, and that is appropriate.
Someone in Peckham has said that there are groups of kids out on the streets, no looting yet but its definetly high tension.
What are a bunch of kids going to do? Throw Twix's at traffic wardens and kick over the designated dog shit bin?
they really should call on the army for help. obviously don't send them in armed, but i'm fairly certain british soldiers get training in crowd control.
Is it even legal to just "send in" the army without a shitload of red tape first I doubt it
Helium canisters in a building that's on fire, nice going idiots.
Yep, they're evacuating residents.
A little point here USA > UK Even though we have immigrants coming over atleast don't bring un-needed riots UJELLY UK?
And the completely inappropriate response award for 2011 goes to...
Is it even legal to just "send in" the army without a shitload of red tape first I doubt it
It seems it needs to be authorized by someone. Apparently something that can only be done at a COBRA meeting, which isn't taking place till 9 tomorrow morning.
