It will start up again tomorrow evening then we will hear nothing more of it.
What happened with this?
The police will form a much more solid defense and loots have got what the want. I bet only a bit of trouble tomorrow (Or today infact )
I think we all know who London needs the most right now.

Except bean-bag rounds instead of buckshot :v:
It'll probably die down now that its the early morning and people will be getting tired.
If it starts again tommorow then they should just get some soldiers on the street.
You can bet the mere sight of soldiers will be enough to make them run away.
We have The London Regiment, 21 SAS, 4 Para (B Company) - all TA regiments, but realistically they would probably call in 2 Para or 3 Para from Colchester like they did in Northern Ireland.
*awaits military force lashing back and the body count rises*
I'm split on this. On one side I want to see just how far the riots can spread and what kind of damage they can do, yet at the same time I want to see how the authorities will clean this up in the end.
All my other forums locked the riot threads because... I don't even know. They weren't really getting rowdy either. It's ridiculous.
It's 7am there. Has it died down some? I can't imagine they still have energy after running around all night.

Fuck all's happening right now afaik but only two hours left until Cobra and the possible deployment of the army, or at least some further measures to stop this shit
Also Greater Manchester Police says the riots haven't hit Manchester yet despite some reports

I'm probably not going to sleep because I have to get up at like 12 anyway.

Cobra? What the hell is that?
Cobra? What the hell is that?
We've been through this. Cabinet Office Meeting Room A. It's an emergency meeting of the British cabinet, along with any relevant advisors.
They hold them when they judge it to be "fucking on," like before attacking Libya.
[editline]9th August 2011[/editline]
COBRA is what you see in films when all the men sit and go "Mr President what do we do"
It's the equivalent of the White House Situation Room

This is the only photo released of the room because that shit's classified
Cobra? What the hell is that?
"COBRAAAAAAA"

David Cameron is back now and talking to people etc
Now they know riots are going to happen they should just beforehand block off all the streets and set up defenses and fill up all the fire trucks beforehand.
Now they know riots are going to happen they should just beforehand block off all the streets and set up defenses and fill up all the fire trucks beforehand.
What do you mean by "fill up all the fire trucks beforehand"?
fill up the fire trucks before the hand
what is this Hand? Must be some sort of secret organization.
Apparently Theresa May went on Breakfast and ruled out the army
Fill them up with water for the fires.
Apparently Theresa May went on Breakfast and ruled out the army
At the end of the day it's only a group of chavs robbing shops, it's not as if the tens of thousands of people are destroying the city. No need for the army.

There are several thousand rioters, considering 450 have been arrested, and they're completely overrunning the Met. People's homes and livelihoods are being destroyed, and considering many were already demanding the Army last night, if COBRA meets and they fail to stop the riots then there are going to be some fucking furious people

There's Theresa May ruling out the army
I'll be very interested to see what they're going to do instead, it needs to be something big
[editline]9th August 2011[/editline]
Ooh, all 15 of the BBC's top videos are rioty
The police are utilizing new tactics, but now that she's said the army wont take any action then they wont. I personally think it'd be brilliant to send a few hundred squaddies through the streets with batons, because them shitheads would seriously regret taking part in the riots, but realistically I don't think they will get called in.
Theresa is an idiot thinking the community will start going to the police telling them who has smashed a few windows in. Nobody is going to do that.
30 minutes to Cobra! Wonder how long the meeting will last though
Now they know riots are going to happen they should just beforehand block off all the streets and set up defenses and fill up all the fire trucks beforehand.
They are doing that. I forget what city but I have heard of pre-emptively blocking city centers.
Well I just got up can someone give me an update of what's happened. Last I heard was Eeling.
Fill them up with water for the fires.
That's not how firetrucks work.
Sky are reporting that every police cell in the capital is full, so anyone arrested has to be transported out of the city to a neighbouring police station... thus taking the policemen on a massive trip out of the city too.
Breakfast just bumped ALL their shit to cover this
Shit iPlayer ain't workin for me.
This guy is on the Twitter front page
http://twitter.com/#!/CobraCommander
so all of this is because the police shot someone (who maybe fired on them first?) i'm confused
