Hope they don't make it anything like the latest version of WLM
"Hey ma-*30 second commercial about something you don't give two shit's about*?"
"Wh-*1 minute commercial about a movie that is the shittiest ever made*-did you say?"
“The key thing will be not to get in the way of the calls…We need to find a clever way of doing it [inserting adverts].”
As long as they dont place stupid ads that pop up mid-call, I dont care.
Skype fucking sucks anyways why is everyone bitching
Skype fucking sucks anyways why is everyone bitching
People are bitching because a lot of people use it and therefore a lot of people will be affected. :downs:
Imagine if Ads interupted calls:
I feel really stupid, but I have a broad economics question relating to this. When company A buys company B for XYZ dollars, well what happens to the money? Company A now owns company B... does the money technically go back to company A?
Troll economics, infinite money.

It would be pretty cool if they used the ad revenue to allow free calls around the world on Skype. If that was the case, I have no problems with advertisement.
Susan, I know I'm about to go into combat, so... will you marr-
BY PROACTIV NOW AND EXPERIENCE CLEAN SKIN IN UNDER THIRTY MINUTES
This isn't surprising.
Considering Skype was running at a loss of millions each year, if MS wants to make any sort of profit they'll need to bring in more revenue via ads.

That would be nice of Microsoft, but we all know that will never happen. They got kids to feed! :downs:

As many times as I've seen that image, I wonder why it's always the old .NET logo.
I hope skype doesn't randomly decide to open just to give me some unimportant information while i'm trying to sleep more.
So, hearing this, anyone have any good video and voip programs they could recommend? Much appreciated.

Mumble's really great for VOIP
Skype is persistent enough as it is when it comes t telling you to buy credit or upgrade to an online number at the bottom. Whenever you click the X to close it another one pops up in a few seconds.
Aww.
Damnit.
So now before I can videochat, I will need to watch 30 sec and and the more ads ever X minutes unless I buy premium? Nice :v:
no actually they're going to have a third person join your voice chat who the whole way through just keeps plugging microsoft products
Had a thought this would happen.
edit:
But does steam not have the same "code" for voice chat as skype now?

For me steam had TERRIBLE echo. Impossible to talk.
That's after their codec update.
And I can't use steam to speak with parents since you can't add friends if you don't own any games.
Well no shit seeing as Skype have only just began making a profit.
Then Microsoft Word 2012, advertisements between every paragraph!
Then Microsoft Word 2012, advertisements between every paragraph!
Only if they release a free version. Otherwise I don't see them putting ads in paid software.

Has anyone figured out what .NET actually is yet
wasn't the whole .NET / Windows Live ID thing supposed to be used for more than just microsoft stuff but nobody cared and it kind of stopped mattering
In other news. The Linux version of skype is going to become an unmaintained piece of shit. :(

True.
Now imagine it even worse.
And so another piece of innovative software is killed off by Microsoft.
RIP Skype.
